Aug 10, 2009I would like to use the Windows Vista/7 defragmentation feature from my program. I can use a shell command to call defrag.exe, but there's no way to get the status that I know of. I would like to show a percentage and maybe what part of the process it's doing. Then when it's done get the results.

Jun 9, 2010I was wondering if there was a way to call defrag.exe from my vb.net program but also be able to watch the progress?I am not reinventing the wheel I am simply making a small app for my customers computers (for free) that will automatically perform disk cleanup and defrag to a schedule not requiring the end user to do absolutly anything (+some other tasks and features)
I have my disk cleanup all working but for the Defrag I would just like to use the windows defrag for instance (defrag C however I have a small GUI with progressbar and % indicator is there anyway I can get progress to report back. I know Windows defrag is compeltly different in Windows 7 I am not sure if this is even possible?

Dec 21, 2009I have installed all of the patches and Hotfixes that I can find and truth be told, this is so enigmic that i dont know where to go to.I have been working on a project for a year and just recently I went to add a database (data source) and the Tab was gone. I thought I did something wrond so i went to Data -> Data Source and nothing happens. whats funny is that I cannot do what I want and add the datasource.
I also have VS 2005 installed (which I am forced to use) and here I have no problem.
Can anyone or does anyone have a simular problem and a resolution??I really would love to use all that is available in VS08 and not having to use a much older version...

Apr 8, 2009I have a app that is starting up a thread that runs the standard windows defrag utility. It also gives the user the option to cancel the defrag if they want to. Problem is if the thread defrag is running on is canceled is there any data loss or does it just do the last operation and then exit. For example the code goes something like this:

Code works exactly as it should, runs the defrag on a separate thread so my UI remains responsive. I'm just worried about the effect of the cancel on it, when you call a thread abort does the program running in the thread know it's being canceled and "cleanly" close? I don't want to abort a file move operation when it's defraging and end up with a corrupt file.

Oct 27, 2010I was unable to register the related upnp.dll provided by the intel open source upnp tools package (as provided here:[URL] from the VB6 references dialog, it said something to the effect of "can't register .dll", but since it is written in (i think) C or C++ I figured there would be a way to make it useable somehow.I am mainly thinking of moving to intel's upnp because microsofts upnp.dll is not letting me progress further due to the following issue (works in .NET but not in VB6):[URL]how I would go about getting intel's upnp.dll (registers correctly in C# and VB.NET) to work in VB6?

My problem is that I cannot get it to build in VB.Net 2010 Express Edition. I created a new project with the standard form1.vb. I then added the reference to ribbon dll. But I get errors when trying to build the app. I have attached a screenshot with the error.
