Apr 8, 2009I have a app that is starting up a thread that runs the standard windows defrag utility. It also gives the user the option to cancel the defrag if they want to. Problem is if the thread defrag is running on is canceled is there any data loss or does it just do the last operation and then exit. For example the code goes something like this:

Code works exactly as it should, runs the defrag on a separate thread so my UI remains responsive. I'm just worried about the effect of the cancel on it, when you call a thread abort does the program running in the thread know it's being canceled and "cleanly" close? I don't want to abort a file move operation when it's defraging and end up with a corrupt file.

Mar 6, 2010I made a code that starts the Disk Check on boot time it works fine on Windows Vista and Windows Xp but on windows 7 I checked the path at were windows 7 stores BootExecute and it is on the same path. Maybe the system is blocking it. Or do i have to change the code.
Here is the code:

When I publish the program and install it on another machine it will show up in the control panel but does not show what size the program is?Also when I publish updates with it says something like installing 10mb. Jul 6, 2010I'm a relatively seasoned VB (COM) vet but this is my first VB.Net application and as is my luck a web services application feeding off a site that I can't publicly mention nor can I post any code that may expose the site.
So, here's the problem. I have written a simple form and have 2 buttons. 1 button simply asks the webservice for it's version. This works no problem. I was able to load the web reference using their supplied WSDL file for this "version" class. Now that I have that working I think "GREAT, that was straight forward. I have my credentials, urls, etc working, the rest of this should be just as straight forward." (See where I jinxed myself here?)
Anyway, I move onto the next WSDL and set of classes and get that reference added no problem. (Man that took a LONG time, like 20 minutes.) I then build my "Get my order data" code syntaxes on the prescribed exposed classes and run my project just to see what errors I get. The "run" process takes almost 45 minutes to an hour..... It's as if the app is getting the WSDL set all over again but doing it over and over..... I have no clue what's going on.
I've tried to disable all the Windows 7 "potential" issues, UAC, firewall, etc, but these changes don't help. Anti virus, spyware, etc all these are off and no difference. I'm running VS2008 as an Admin, right click "run as admin", and have complete control over this machine. Any ideas, suggestions, etc are VERY welcome and I am happy to expose as much of this application as I can providing I can stay with in the rules of the confidentiality contract.

How do I "expose" the Functions and Subs contained in the DLL such that they are accessible from another application ?
For example, in Fortran the "DLLEXPORT :: MyFunctionToBeAccessed" attribute is given after the declaration of the Function; it adds the name of the Function to a table at the beginning of the DLL, name which can be referenced after to access the functionnalities of the function in the DLL.
