Publish A VB2008 Windows Application, From The Build Menu?
Mar 23, 2010I publish a VisualBasic 2008 windows application, from the Build menu,but when I install it by running the installation's setup.exe, an unusual popup window showing Windows connected to the Internet pops momentarily, and then the application opens and runs.But the application's .exe is not in Start > Programs, or on the desktop, or anywhere.Publishing and installation worked perfectly a few weeks ago.

I checked using ILDASM and it only showed 4 dlls.What could be the issue ? How I can I check why it is getting unwanted DLL's in Release Folder?

Dec 30, 2010If you edit a service in Windows 7 and go to the Log On Tab, there is an option to "Allow service to interact with desktop". I'm trying to ensure that it is set for a certain service using VB.NET.
Note: Doing this during the install of a program is not an option. It has to be done at run time.

Jul 14, 2011i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

Aug 30, 2010I was studying visual basic 2008 and had reached almost 60% of it when I was told that my course curriculum included visual basic 2005. I will now have to reinstall visual basic 2005(.net framework 2) instead of visual basic 2008(3.5 .net framework). I was wondering- will it be completely different vb2005 and vb2008? I really wanted to stick to vb2008, I was getting the hang of it. Also, I was wondering, can I run my application vb2008 in .net framework? Is there any way around? Also, I used advanced installer to build a setup file for my application? Now the question is will the other computer(the one which will install from the set up) need .net framework of 3.5(since I built apps in vb2008)?

I can't see any problem in the code and what it should do is trigger an animation depending on the status of a service (spooler service in this case). It may be because I am manually referencing to the System.ServiceProcess namespace, which is not available in WPF framework by default, but I'm not sure.

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?

In my practice, i create 3 projects to handle each layer progress. That are DAL (Data Access Layer), BLL(Business Logic Layer) and UIL (User Interface Layer).
My problem is i don't want to use web service like beth massi do, and i don't want to use remote object like Jeff L do. So i decide to create it by my rules. Here above something that i do.
In DAL Section, I put all datasource like Beth Massi do over here. I also create a manager class like massi do to handle datasource over here. Also in this class, i create the UML structure of this datasource.

Stopping A Windows Service, A Different Service Stops As Well?
Mar 3, 2009We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

Jan 17, 2012I was able to programmatically launch a service on my development server from a workstation using the ServiceController class with no problems.
When I try to programmatically launch the service on my production server from my workstation, I get an access error which means I do not have rights to run the service with my logged in ID on the workstation.
My question is, is there a way to launch the service using different credentials? I do not see anywhere to input these credentials in the ServiceController class.

The constraint is, we're going to use VB.NET for the client application.We already had a two tiered VB.NET application from our last successfull database application. It use a lot of DataSet for the result of SQL execution. Now, what I had in mind, is a simple approach of converting all procedure that return a DataSet Object, to be a WebService method. But, because of this thinking, I don't think we can do it in Java/PHP. That is, we'll be enforce to use a ASP.NET approach. Is this correct? Mar 10, 2009I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true.
