Difference Bwtween Vb2005 And Vb2008 - Use Advanced Installer To Build A Setup File For Application?
Aug 30, 2010
I was studying visual basic 2008 and had reached almost 60% of it when I was told that my course curriculum included visual basic 2005. I will now have to reinstall visual basic 2005(.net framework 2) instead of visual basic 2008(3.5 .net framework). I was wondering- will it be completely different vb2005 and vb2008? I really wanted to stick to vb2008, I was getting the hang of it. Also, I was wondering, can I run my application vb2008 in .net framework? Is there any way around? Also, I used advanced installer to build a setup file for my application? Now the question is will the other computer(the one which will install from the set up) need .net framework of 3.5(since I built apps in vb2008)?
so instead of when i build my project running the advanced installer t make it a exe i just went to my visual basic projects folder and ran it from there and it worked good, so i though if i make a zip file the files in it password protect, and just leave out the startup icon then my users can just click that to use my program while not being aloud into the source code, but after i zipped the folder the program doesnt work anymore, any way to do this?
I am seeking advice or clarification of feasibility.Ihave a VB.NET (2008) application that, as an administrative tool, generates a user id, password and business role, and creates a file on disk with the aforementioned as content. This file needs to be deployed to users via a setup program that will put the file in a fixed path I specify. I was wondering if it is possible (and if so how complex it might b to mimic the functionality of the IDEs setup and deployment wizard within the application (that is to say buildthe msi file and setup.exesupplying the parameter of installation path).
I publish a VisualBasic 2008 windows application, from the Build menu, but when I install it by running the installation's setup.exe, an unusual popup window showing Windows connected to the Internet pops momentarily, and then the application opens and runs. But the application's .exe is not in Start > Programs, or on the desktop, or anywhere.Publishing and installation worked perfectly a few weeks ago.
i have this solution that i'm suppose to make an installer of, but because it calls a datebase and the database is not within the solution therefore it was not included in the installer.
and my installer cant work correctly. is there anyway i can go around doing it?
here is the poblem after installing the program only users can only use the program if they are logged as admin can use the progam. like writing to the database. i either need to find out how to change the users to have write access during install or great a dll and add it to the install and as the program starts it checks the file and folder access of the users. if the access does not have write enabled then it runs the dll to fix it. not having any code posted i really do not have any idea how to do this. oh yes the short verision is if the program is install as an administritor only a user that have administritor access can write to the database.
how can i get the folder path for the system tray or how can i buid a setup file that install a icon in the system tray using VS 2005.I know how to build setup file with creating icons in desktop and quick launch bar, but wanted to know how to add the icon into system tray after i install it
I own a copy of vb2005 professional. I need to migrate a vb6 project to vb.net Is there any difference in terms of effort to migrating to these editions of vb.net
In VB2008 Express is there any way I can modify the installer once the App has been publsihed or before in the projects window? it seems to just create all this automatically but I would like to include some options etc.

Say i made a splashscreen in vb2008 i added a button saying install Is there a way i can get a app into the button..Sorry for my bad english.. Do you see the image below? If i click copytodvdsetp it will open the installer and start installing If i click the serial button it will open a text box.. How do i make that??
I was having error while making the installer in my program. I have images inside the debug folder and i use those images in my program. I successfully create the installer the problem is that when I run it it gives me an error message looking for my Images folder.
In my project properties I have the version/build numbers automatically incrementing... I'm on 1.0.0.16.
The problem is that with each new/updated installation, my build numbers aren't changing... even though my project properties page shows the appropriate version/revision incrementing. I created the installer project at version 1.0.0.13. Although I'm now at 1.0.0.16, My "About" form still shows 1.0.0.13.
I do not hard-code the version in this form... I use the following
Me.LabelVersion.Text = String.Format("Version {0}", My.Application.Info.Version.ToString)Hope this isn't too vague. The installer project creates a setup.exe and setup.msi file. When I publish my solution is also creates a setup.exe file.
Its two programs that work together called Script Writer and Script. My problem is, I need something that will install it on other peoples machines and will be easy to install and use to make. or possibly a way to manipulate the publish option under Vb 2008 to make a setup.exe for the file that won't install it in a funky place. It also needs to install both programs in the same directory. Because Script pulls its information from output.txt which Script Writer, writes information to output.txt. I can share the Vb scripts if you like. But I'm kinda perplexed on this. I've tried installing it after publishing it, then I go to the installation folder and copy its contents, then paste them in a seperate folder on my desktop. It works on my computer but not other peoples computers. Also when publishing my program from VB 2008 it won't publish anything in my debug folder, so html.txt and output.txt doesn't get published with the setup and doesn't install when the setup is ran. So I'm having a few problems here.[url]...

In my installer class, I want to check the existince of a file in the same directory that the setup msi is launched from. How do I determine the directory the MSI is launched from, from within the Installer Class? My installer class is launching succesfully and is able to process a file if I hard code the name and location. My goal is to remove that hard coded reference.
Recently I created one windows form application and also created setup project using VS2008.My application works with external software, which needs to be available on the PC.I want to bundle this external application installer in my installer, so that I can check if it is already installed and if not then install it and then install my application.I figured out how to work with pre-requisites that Setup project identifies such as .net framework?
I have a small console application that writes the [TARGETDIR] from my msi installer to a text file.If I choose C:Program Files as the installation folder, it only writes out C:Program..What would you use so that it doesn't stop writing when there's a space? [code]
I have created installer from Visual Studio Package and Deployment, but after successful installation, the installer files (like dlls, images and all supporting files) modified date or even creation date has been changed and all have the same date depends on the date of installation. Is there a way I can preserve or maintain it's original creation/modified date?
I have developed a s/w using acces and sqlserver 2008 and now trying to make a setup file. How could be the possible way?? I tried in VS2008 software and development. But after installing from the msi file and running the s/w it shows an error "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 provider is not registered
I am using vs 2003 to build a setup project but got this error message"Could not find file ..., Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."I checked the path of the file, it is correct. After I remove this file from the setup project, I can build it successfully and the result msi file is about 250MB, the file I removed is about 260MB, is there any limitation about the size of the file in setup project or the total size of msi file? If so, how can I build the setup project?
I have two tables in one to many relationship in an access 2003 database.I am using vb6 and visual studio 2008.I want a data entry form (in grid view) for child table. I want to display & add, Update, delete child records accordingly with parent.

I am trying to create an autoupdater for my application, and I came up with an idea to use the "After build" event to export the application version to txt file.Just a simple txt file with lets say "1.0.1" in it.
I added a setup project to a winform vb.net app which otherwise builds fine. Once the setup project is added to the solution, however, the build fails with the following error;Unrecoverable build error. As there does not seem to be much information I can't figure what the problem is. What can I do from here to fix this to get deployment package?
I have a setup project which is full of VB Libraries / apps...when I try to build it in the debug configuration it always errors out with this error[code]...
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?
