i have this solution that i'm suppose to make an installer of, but because it calls a datebase and the database is not within the solution therefore it was not included in the installer.
and my installer cant work correctly. is there anyway i can go around doing it?
I have a problem here. I want to distribute .net framework and windows installer along with my app installation file. The questions:1. Is it legal? Windows installer, yes it is legal. I don't know about .net framework 3.52. Which folder do I have to put the files? I tried the publish, debug, and root folder of the application, none works. I select download from the same location of my application in clickonce.

to have write access during install or great a dll and add it to the install and as the program starts it checks the file and folder access of the users. if the access does not have write enabled then it runs the dll to fix it. not having any code posted i really do not have any idea how to do this. oh yes the short verision is if the program is install as an administritor only a user that have administritor access can write to the database.

View 1 RepliesI was studying visual basic 2008 and had reached almost 60% of it when I was told that my course curriculum included visual basic 2005. I will now have to reinstall visual basic 2005(.net framework 2) instead of visual basic 2008(3.5 .net framework). I was wondering- will it be completely different vb2005 and vb2008? I really wanted to stick to vb2008, I was getting the hang of it. Also, I was wondering, can I run my application vb2008 in .net framework? Is there any way around? Also, I used advanced installer to build a setup file for my application? Now the question is will the other computer(the one which will install from the set up) need .net framework of 3.5(since I built apps in vb2008)?
View 1 RepliesI'm currently developing an application for a POS Terminal using VB.net. Our project is approaching the last stage of development and I've been tasked to create 2 installers. 1 for Initial Installation, and the other for upgrade installation.
The project is composed of several elements. These are:
1. The application executable
2. Common DLLs that we developed
3. some resources (.resx and XML)
The requirement for the upgrade installer is that only those files with modification should be installed. (i.e. if only the xml or resx files are modified those are the only items that will be reinstalled, since the size of the upgrade installer is a consideration so we cannot reinstall everything).
I'm using Visual Studio 2005 for my deployment project but I'm a bit confused about how to set the properties of each file in such a way that during the upgrade, only the files that were modified would be updated and the rest of the files will not be removed since I'm setting RemovePreviousVersion property to True. I have a hunch that I need to do something with the custom action but I haven't been able to figure it out. The upgrade installer setup is almost the same as the initial installer except that all files are excluded.I tried to acquire a copy of Phil Wilson's book (The definitive guide to Windows Installer) but its not available in our local bookstore and it would take too long to order it.
Basically while tinkering with the settings/properties there are instances where the dll was not updated and there are also times when the application exe was removed.
I already verified that the Product code is the same for both installers and that I'm sure that the version number is being incremented for each upgrade.
If I will be redoing both installers from scratch, how should I go about it?
I'm also confused about the Condition property and the transitive property.
I have an access database which includes Customers table and one of its columns is the Birth date. In project in visual studio, using visual basic 2010, I have a form with a calendar. In this form I want to show who has birthday today. How can I compare all the customer�s birth date with the day we have today? And have as result a label with all birthdays?

1:"ID" This one i set to an primary key and i have also made it automaticlly put a number in order to the list. Like 1,2,3,4,5 for each data added. Data Type for this is int.
2:"WordCombination" Were i enter my word combination that i want it to look for)
3."TypeofCombination" Were i enter what the program should add to what i typed in texbox1 if it contains the WordCombination.
I want my program to se if texbox1 contains any of those WordCombinations in my database. And if thats true, Then i want it to show whats in the TypeofCombination + the text in texbox1 in texbox2. If i enter "What do you want ?" in Textbox1 i want the program to find that "What do you want ?" contains "you want" like in ID:1 WordCombination:you want. So becuse this is ture it should enter TypeofCombination in this case "Question:" + what i entered in Textbox1 to show in Textbox2.So if i write "What do you want ?" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Question: What do you want ?" If i Write "My name is Jake" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Answer: My name is Jake".If I Write "hello you Hi there Jacob" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Greeting: hello you Hi there Jacob".And i Should be able to add and delete Word Combinations Without having to change the program.

My problem is, I need something that will install it on other peoples machines and will be easy to install and use to make. or possibly a way to manipulate the publish option under Vb 2008 to make a setup.exe for the file that won't install it in a funky place. It also needs to install both programs in the same directory. Because Script pulls its information from output.txt which Script Writer, writes information to output.txt. I can share the Vb scripts if you like. But I'm kinda perplexed on this. I've tried installing it after publishing it, then I go to the installation folder and copy its contents, then paste them in a seperate folder on my desktop. It works on my computer but not other peoples computers. Also when publishing my program from VB 2008 it won't publish anything in my debug folder, so html.txt and output.txt doesn't get published with the setup and doesn't install when the setup is ran. I am trying to create an install for my application that I have just created using visual basic express. I want to be able to tell it to put files in certain locations and create my own installer. For example I want to make a license page with a read me on the installer. From what I understand the clickonce technology is what comes with express editions and you cannot do it with them.
