View 5 RepliesI have created a script that opens up an .msi with a transform file. To make changes to the transform file, I have created a temporary .msi file. Once the changes have been made to the file, I want to delete the temporary .msi, but I am unable to as I get an error that the file is in use by another process. That process is the VB .exe itself. I need to be able to release the handle on this file so that I am able to delete it.
I have tried this by using both the 'ReleasecomObject' using try/catch and through using 'FinalReleaseComObject'. I do not get errors when running this in the script, but it still won't allow me to delete the file.
I have a console app that does some database access, creates a crystal report, and emails the report to some users. I made it a console app so it can be easliy run and configured as a Scheduled Task.
Do I need an install program for this or can I just copy the exe file out of the Release folder?

I have a small database program that gets data from csv file, I created a function that formats the font color of textboxes based on dates and values.

I place this in text changed event and I have a problem implementing it, because the date conversion will not take place until the data is loaded. The second part works but not the first(Date) part.
I can create a button and use its click event to format the text boxes just fine, however i wanted the text boxes to be formatted on the fly . The problem is no matter where i call the function the date conversion wont work.

When I Click the F5 / Strat Debug on menu the DOS-Based form appears and disappears immediately. I am able to run a DOS-Based program in the computer, I checked this after the Sample Console Application failed to run. The Code I used is given within the Brackets(System.Console.WriteLine("Hello World")).
View 2 Repliesi have a small program to get text from a DAT file. the program gets all the text and puts it into a rich text box (rtb1) then I click a button (btnformat) to split the text in the dat file into indexes so that I can output the indexes that I want to an excel file. This program works when I use small amounts of data but if I use say 800 lines of text the program crashes/ can't handle the volume of data and just stalls.

I will now have to reinstall visual basic 2005(.net framework 2) instead of visual basic 2008(3.5 .net framework). I was wondering- will it be completely different vb2005 and vb2008? I really wanted to stick to vb2008, I was getting the hang of it. Also, I was wondering, can I run my application vb2008 in .net framework? Is there any way around? Also, I used advanced installer to build a setup file for my application? Now the question is will the other computer(the one which will install from the set up) need .net framework of 3.5(since I built apps in vb2008)?

What I need to do is it will automatically ping it like "ping iphere" the output looks like "64 bytes from machine&hostnamehere (iphere): icmp_seq=0 ttl=121 time=60 ms. What I need to know is how I can read those lines then if it "iphere" matches the pinged ip it will update my txt file. The only thing I need is reading the lines to see if it pings. One thing is if it doesnt ping it doesn't say anything its just empty space.

i need to create an application(VB.net or VBA) which will convert text file contents into excel. u the contents fromt he text file have delimiters(special characters).The condition is while converting it should remove all the delimiters and paste teh content between two delimiters in to one cell.For Eg:

I was wondering it's it possible to read all the text being displayed from a console/terminal/cmd application (What ever you want to call it).
I would then want to echo that text in a text box.
What i want to do, is to get my console application to read from a .txt file (with one word per line), and randomly select a line from that file and declare it as chosenword. However, i am not sure what i must do to do that.
