I am indifferent if you are a VB.NET or C# or other .NET developer. I have a FACTORY class like the following:

I have a .dll file (Interop.ACTMULTILib.dll) that I use to connect to a PLC. This .dll contains a sub called ReadDeviceBlock2(byval devicename as string, byval size as integer, byref data as short). When I call this method in my main it works fine, if I call it from another method that was called by main it works as well. However, it doesn't work when I call it from my Timer_Elapsed sub? I guess this has to do something with threads but I can't figure it out.
Module Main
Private Timer As New System.Timers.Timer
Private PLC As New ACTMULTILib.ActEasyIF
Private DataSet As new DataSet[code].....
I'm trying to use the sendkeys method SendKeys.Send(

Function to copy whatever the user has highlighted. I have a console ap with hotkeys to open it. It locks up the computer and I have to use TaskMan to free it up. I know this is a simple piece of code but I must have something wrong with the sendkeys line.
Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean)
Try
If disposing = true And components IsNot Nothing Then
components.Dispose()
End If
Finally
MyBase.Dispose(disposing)
End Try
End Sub
Error: Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(disposing As Boolean)' has multiple definitions with identical signatures. How can I call this without raising an error ?
This is a general question about Object Orientation and specifically overloading functions in .NET (or any other framework or language). I am looking at an application that has a lot of duplicate code. For example, have a look at the following functions: [code] I would of thought that best pratice would be to put: //code that is specifically relevant to Test1 variable in a separate function as it is common in both functions.
View 2 RepliesCan a contextmenu be used in a .Net 2005 console application? If so, how do I create the necessary events. I know how to create the control but not sure about the needed events. I'm thinking the only one I really need is the "Click" event.
View 8 Repliesis it possible to get the Console Application arguments as 1 string instead of a collection of string. For exemple, if I call my Console Application like this : myapp.exe This is a test I would like to get "This is a test" and not
args(0)="This"
args(1)="is"
args(2)="a"
args(3)="test"
I am trying to remember how to stop a console application from closing after it has run. I want the window to remain on the screen until I am ready to close it.
View 2 RepliesI have a main class that has a Sub procedure with no implementation. Any derived class should override and implement this procedure, so I used MustOverride in the base class.
Now, any time this procedure is called, I need to set a specific Boolean variable to True at the beginning of the procedure and set it to False at the end.
Is there a way to avoid writing these two lines of code in procedure implementation of every single derived class? Can I set this value to True in the base class, then run procedure in the derived class and then set the value back in the base class?
I'm a newbie and trying to develop my first program. The program is a console math quiz application. I want to add a timer to the code that tells the user the the amount of time it took for them to complete the quiz. I have no clue as to how I need to implement this.

I have a form program that runs long, and for kicks I was wondering if I could out put some data to a "real console" -not the Console useing the Output debugger.
View 8 RepliesI am trying to override a property of a subclass of an inherited base class. I've tried to simplify this code as much as possible but am not comfortable enough with my own abilities to simplify anything else without loosing the ability to understand an answer. The property propertyName in the otherClass is currently incorrect. I want to be able to override propertyName in baseClass with the propertyName in otherClass. Is this possible to accomplish?
Public Interface interfaceName

I submitted the same question a few minutes ago, but so far that hasn't appeared in the thread - I wonder why/ - I used the HTML to rite the code I used. When I Click the F5 / Strat Debug on menu the DOS-Based form appears and disappears immediately. I am able to run a DOS-Based program in the computer, I checked this after the Sample Console Application failed to run. The Code I used is given within the Brackets(System.Console.WriteLine("Hello World")).

I am trying to use a custom colour scheme for painting my menustrips, toolstrips etc. To do this, I am implementing a custom ToolStripProfessionalRenderer.
Normally i would simply set the renderer of each toolstrip etc. to a new instance of a ToolStripProfessionalRenderer instantaniated with a custom ColorTable i.e.
Dim myRenderer As ToolStripProfessionalRenderer = New ToolStripProfessionalRenderer(New MyColorTable)
I have a small console application that writes the [TARGETDIR] from my msi installer to a text file.If I choose C:Program Files as the installation folder, it only writes out C:Program..What would you use so that it doesn't stop writing when there's a space? [code]

Is it possible to prevent compiler warning caused by a static factory method returning an instance of an obsolete class? For example if an instance of an obsolete class (Foo) is created through a static method (Create) a compiler warning is caused by the factory method.
<Obsolete()> _
Public Class Foo
Public Shared Function Create() As Foo
[code]....
In C# the warning could be suppressed using "#pragma warning..." but I don't think that this exists within VB.Net. Migrating to C# is not an option due to business requirements.

I made a Vista Aero -style form for XP, but when using it, the application won't close. The FormClosed and Disposed events fire, but not the HandleDestroyed event. I tried to get around that by handling the Disposed event and calling Me.DestroyHandle(), and it worked, but not if the user resized the form so that it caused an IndexOutOfRangeException in BlurImage().The code is attached.
View 2 RepliesI was asked to build a winform exe that receives arguments from a web service and decide in which mode the application should start.what is the best way to design and build the application? The application needs to receive 3 arguments.

Where do I receive this arguments in the new method ?
I have a console application I'm using to run scheduled jobs through windows scheduler. All the communication to/from the application is in email, event logging, database logs. Is there any way I can suppress the console window from coming up?
View 5 RepliesUsing VS 2005, I create a new VB .NET class library project. The project created is automatically populated with an "Any CPU" build target. I create a COM visible object, check the register for com interop and build the project. The resultant assembly is NOT registered in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID. Instead it goes into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWow6432NodeCLSID. I have a 64 bit machine and 64 bit OS. I would swear that with VS 2003 on such a setup, I got an entry in the 64 bit registry hive.So I went to the configuration manager and specifically created a x64 config, copying from the (only) Any CPU config. But when I build I get two BC40010 warnings. One was for System.Data.dll. So I went to the project properties/References tab and then removed "System.Data.dll" (no mscorlib entry there - the other BC40010 warning) and then ran the add command and re-added System.Data.dll thinking that since I was working on the x64 config, the IDE would bring in the correct assembly.Still I get the warning. Why doesn't the IDE understand the meaning of the "x64" configuration the wizard created? The MSDN tells me I have to fix this:
To correct this error Examine the quoted error message and take appropriate action.Compile the program again to see if the error recurs. If the error recurs, reinstall the Visual Basic compiler. If the error persists after reinstallation, gather information about the circumstances and notify Microsoft Product Support Services.
I got warnings on my project, does somebody know how to reference this assembly. this is probably because the project has these crm.mytextbox type textboxes and other controls instead of normal system.windows.forms.textbox.Warning1Could not find type 'crm.Mycombox'. Please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced. If this type is a part of your development project, make sure that the project has been successfully built.00

I am currently working on an application, where I am using a console application, that will set up the application prior to the main form is run. This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.
View 12 RepliesHow do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.
View 7 RepliesIt sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).
Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?
When you download the .msi from our website and try to run it, you are presented with this very unfriendly message (attached). I'm using an Installer deployment project in VB.Net 2005 Pro - is there something I can do to avoid this error?
