View 8 Repliesis it possible to get the Console Application arguments as 1 string instead of a collection of string. For exemple, if I call my Console Application like this : myapp.exe This is a test I would like to get "This is a test" and not
args(0)="This"
args(1)="is"
args(2)="a"
args(3)="test"
I'm a newbie and trying to develop my first program. The program is a console math quiz application. I want to add a timer to the code that tells the user the the amount of time it took for them to complete the quiz. I have no clue as to how I need to implement this.

I have a form program that runs long, and for kicks I was wondering if I could out put some data to a "real console" -not the Console useing the Output debugger.
View 8 RepliesI submitted the same question a few minutes ago, but so far that hasn't appeared in the thread - I wonder why/ - I used the HTML to rite the code I used. When I Click the F5 / Strat Debug on menu the DOS-Based form appears and disappears immediately. I am able to run a DOS-Based program in the computer, I checked this after the Sample Console Application failed to run. The Code I used is given within the Brackets(System.Console.WriteLine("Hello World")).

I have developed a very simple application that disables system keyboard commands (ctrl+alt+del, alt+tab, etc), hides the taskbar, hides the desktop, etc.Upon entering a password the user can 'unlock' these options. This is being used with a restaurant POS system so no accidents can happen. However there seems to be one minor issue:In a separate software package (the POS software), at specific times, any application that is running (my locking application) will get focus and end up on top of the POS software.I want my locking software to remain underneath all running applications. Anyway to keep my locking application from gaining focus? I was thinking of maybe adding some line of code to send my locking application into the background whenever it gets focus..
View 4 RepliesI am currently working on an application, where I am using a console application, that will set up the application prior to the main form is run. This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.
View 12 RepliesHow do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.
View 7 RepliesIt sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).
Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?
I use to do programming in VB3.0 years ago and decided to try it out again with VB2005. Basically I made a chat application for my coworkers so they can chat at their desk. It's a shared network and the program is pretty simple. Basically the chat gets stored in a .ini file and that part works fine, but I want to be able to show the users who are currently in the chat and I am not sure how to go about doing this, when you login to the chat it takes your name which I would like displayed and when you close the application to remove the name from the list while keeping everyone elses updated.

I am using the following code to run defrag and to analyze if the C: drive requires defragmentation:
Dim analyze As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32defrag.exe", "C: /a /h /u /v")
This process runs through analyzing, runs it in normal mode & prints the progress to the command window.
My problem is that as soon as the process is complete the command window closes. I need it to stay open so that I can read the results.

I have both the VB and C# versions of Visual Studio 2008 Express. When I run a console application in either version, instead of the console opening in an old DOS style command window like it does in VS 2005, it actually blacks out both monitors attached to my computer and treats the entire screen real estate as the console.Anyone know how to get the app to run in a small command-type window when I run it? It's like the console is running Full Screen. If I set a break point, switch from the IDE t the console and then hit Alt+Enter it switches to the small window that I want, but I still can't figure out how to make the app start with the console that way.I could post a screenshot but it would look like a big black square...no window, no frame, just the inky blackness of frustration.
