View 1 RepliesI have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

i am trying to understand how to keep my console app open even after it gathers data and sends it off. I am converting a GUI to the console app. It has a timer that fires the sub every 20 seconds. But it doesnt seem like it works in the console app since after it fires off the sub it closes the app without waiting.

View 6 RepliesI have both the VB and C# versions of Visual Studio 2008 Express. When I run a console application in either version, instead of the console opening in an old DOS style command window like it does in VS 2005, it actually blacks out both monitors attached to my computer and treats the entire screen real estate as the console.Anyone know how to get the app to run in a small command-type window when I run it? It's like the console is running Full Screen. If I set a break point, switch from the IDE t the console and then hit Alt+Enter it switches to the small window that I want, but I still can't figure out how to make the app start with the console that way.I could post a screenshot but it would look like a big black square...no window, no frame, just the inky blackness of frustration.

I am working on an application that needs to have both a command-line AND windows form interface. I have designed the form, and written a basic console app. The issue comes when I try to display the GUI, as the application is a Console project in VS2008. I do the following:
Dim Apply As Boolean = False
Dim Check As Boolean = False
' Snip.

And the GUI flashes for a second, but then goes away. How do I make the GUI stay up, and wait for input?

View 3 RepliesI have a .Net Console application which displays thousands of lines on the console each minute. I want to convert it to a Windows Service, however I still need a way of viewing these messages. There are far too many messages to write them to the event log or even a standard log file. I was wondering if there were a way to write a systray app that could simply intercept these messages from the service and display them in a console window. I have no need to save older messages, I only need to see current activity.
View 2 RepliesI created a windows console application because it needs to do some things at windows start up. However, in very rare cases I need to ask the user for some information, so I need to show a form. I created a form and went to my application properties. There I selected Windows Forms application as the application type. I call my form with the .Show method but it doesn't show up.
I expected this, but I have no idea how to solve it.
[EDIT]Just found out .Show does show it but only for 0.00001 seconds. I use showdialog now. Is this the right way to do it?
I have created a Windows application (in VB .NET). Now I want it to run from Console too. However, when i run it from console, i don't want to should the windows forms and also want to run some specific tasks.

View 7 RepliesI'm creating a Windows Console application written in VB.NET and I have a few processes that need to be called only once during the lifetime of the application. If it was an ASP.NET application, I put these in the Appliction_Start method of the Global.asax.vb file. Since there isn't a Global. asax. vb for Console applications, is there an event I could handle that allows me to call my functions before Main is called?
