Basically I am saving text to 2 seperate ini files, also saving the checkbox.checked value so my form can skip the login and auto start. My only problem is when a user saves the information to the INI files after writing them they automatically open up the INI files for display. When the form loads it automatically fills in the fields and if the checkbox is active it checks all the correct details then starts, only problem is it loads the checkbox1.checked ini file then starts the main menu. How can I skip this? and make it not show the ini files everytime they are called upon?
Dim aINIpath As String
aINIpath = "User.ini"
If File.Exists(aINIpath) = False Then

I used WriteAllText to set the encoding for a text file. When I wrote it, everything worked out fine. However, strange characters or symbols appeared in some ofm y fields without my having typed it. why is this so? The encoding I'm using is UTF8. I used the WriteAllText to write the fields to file but did not use the ReadAllText to bring the data back into the fields or program.

View 3 Replieshow can I let VB.Net writes an excel 2007 file? For example, the data in a TextBox will be written to the excel file every 30 seconds.The enviroment is VS2008, .Net 3.5.I've just started VB for one month, so please give me a piece of code to help me understand. I tried to find the solution on the Internet, but none of the codes worked for me, some people mentioned import "Microsoft.Office.Interop" in the code, but if do that in my code, VS said that "Namespace or type in the Imports 'Microsoft.Office.Interop' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases."
View 1 RepliesVB 2005 now offers different methods to write/read a file, such as the File.WriteAllText, the My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText and the StreamWriter.Can anybody explain when is it better to use which method, which one is more efficient in term of memory/processor use and performance time?

View 1 RepliesI have a problem when writing some text to txt files.Here is my My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText("test.txt", tekst, False)where tekst is a string variable.
When opened in some HEX editor, test.txt begins with 3 unwanted characters - ASCII values: EF BB BF. Notepad isn't showing them.
I am using ASP.net(2.0) with VB.NET.
I have a User registration form. On that form the user supply all his contact details and he can upload a image with the normal file upload control in ASP.net.
This is my problem. If anything goes wrong on the page then i give the User a error message saying what he left out or what went wrong. But the page refresh when that does happen. NOW the link to the image the user selected is gone. NOW when the user fix his error he thinks that he is uploading a picture but he never did because when the page re loaded it removed the link to his image inside the file upload control.
Note, the user don't have to upload a image, so there will be no error when the field is blank.
I am using:
VB

View 20 RepliesI am writing an app that reads from the com port, filters the data, then writes to the text box, then immediately starts over. This all takes place in an endless " do while" loop within the "start" button code. I also have a end button too which closes the com port and ends the program. Some other buttons are present also to change the filter settings.Problem is when I click start, data is logged, but none of the other buttons work. Also some of the text boxes are "see through" and dont look like thy have updated with the rest of the form.
View 9 RepliesLet me explain the functions and what they do first.This function writes a key to a specified file:
Public Shared Sub WriteDatabaseKey(ByVal section As String, ByVal keyname As String, ByVal entrystring As String, ByVal filename As String, ByVal filepath As String)

The code below opens a file in Example 1 and writes on another file only the lines that satisfy the condition If times > 4 to another file. What I want to do is illustrated in example 2
[code]...
t= 2 comes from Subtracting t= 11 - t= 9 from the script in example 1. I have scripts with thousands of lines every time the program should automatically subtract the next value with the previous one and write the result into a new file starting from t= 0

I've had a search through a number of extremely useful articles on the forums, however rather than reinvent the wheel I thought I would ask if anyone already had what I am looking for..A simply little VB app that opens a session to a specific IP port and then writes to a test file everything it receives. If the connection drops, simply re-stablish it and keep listening for text to write to the file.

View 2 RepliesA text file exists on my server machine which is constantly being updated (about once about 5 seconds). On my web page, I'd like a div to display this file live using jQuery inside MVC.
I have the jQuery timer working already, but the file isn't displaying. My plan was to get the jQuery to load a Controller Action every 5 seconds and have this action return a FilePathResult.
The script:
$(function () {
var streamer = $("div.wrapper div.streamer");
//===
[Code]....
LiveStreamPath contains the path to the text file. I was thinking of creating a StreamReader in the Action instead. What sorts of implementations can I use to get this file to stream?
