i have a small program to get text from a DAT file. the program gets all the text and puts it into a rich text box (rtb1) then I click a button (btnformat) to split the text in the dat file into indexes so that I can output the indexes that I want to an excel file. This program works when I use small amounts of data but if I use say 800 lines of text the program crashes/ can't handle the volume of data and just stalls.

What I'm trying to do is write a small program that copies a file from a USB to another directory so a program already installed on the computer can load this data.Usually copying files from one directory into another wouldn't be an issue.
[Code]...
If possible i would also like to change the code i have written so it just loads January2009.txt from the "root directory" of the USB rather than having to specify H: because if i put the USB in someone elses computer this could change to G: and then it wouldn't work.
I have a small database program that gets data from csv file, I created a function that formats the font color of textboxes based on dates and values.
CODE:
I place this in text changed event and I have a problem implementing it, because the date conversion will not take place until the data is loaded. The second part works but not the first(Date) part.
I can create a button and use its click event to format the text boxes just fine, however i wanted the text boxes to be formatted on the fly . The problem is no matter where i call the function the date conversion wont work.
I have a small console application that writes the [TARGETDIR] from my msi installer to a text file.If I choose C:Program Files as the installation folder, it only writes out C:Program..What would you use so that it doesn't stop writing when there's a space? [code]
I'm trying to make a small database out of text boxes and text files, something where sql would be overkill, not to mention beyond my experience. I want to be able to write the contents of the text boxes to a file.txt (the easy part) then being able to retrieve them back out into individual text boxes. How would I pull this one off?
I am trying to build a small program which will allow some one to click on the exit button and the sound will play and at the end of the sound the program will then close. The sound clip is about 3 seconds long Here is what I have:

I have been trying, without success, to get rid of a Blink at the start of a small program.
My program opens with a title page (Form2, which is visible at 100% Opacity) that I want to fade after a few seconds, this works fine except that at the first reduction of opacity, Timer1's first 'Tick', the whole of Form2 blacks out for a moment. (Blinks)
I have a short demo program to show what I mean but dont think I can attach it to this question. The code is shown here but I dont know how to include Form1 and Form2. They are very simple however, theyre both Size 1000,600 Form1 has a single Button (Exit) and a Timer; Form2 has a full-size photo as background.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code]....
I developed the code on a XP machine, but I also get the same 'Blink' on my Win. 7 Pro machine.
i am trying to make a small program to encrypt files using AES, and then have the password from the AES encrypted using RSA for its use of public keys. i've got the AES part working fine and i found a good RSA tutorial here url....but after i encrypt the AES password (which is saved in a .txt file) using RSA, then i try to decrypt it again, it comes out as an empty .txt file!

I are trying to write a small program for iTunes using Windows COM. We are able to talk to iTunes and create popup boxes that show the current track, and a few other small things. However, when we try to set this info to a Label for example, we get:
InvalidOperationException was unhandled by user code Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Label1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
The program then hangs and locks iTunes from closing. I believe the issue is the event handler I have created, which I know very little about. We are using VB 2010, so that may change some things. We followed a rough example from a forum post HERE. If you scroll down the orange text, you will see a reply right after by Will Hughes with a "Handles iTunes.OnPlayEvent". If I add this to the end of my event handler, I get:
Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. Not sure if its important to the issue or not, but I found it curious. Our code is shown below.
Imports iTunesLib Public Class Form1 Private iTunes As New iTunesApp

Anyway, I'm a teacher and am writing a program that simply shows kids a word on a flashcard. There are 2 buttons, 1 to read the word and 1 to go to a new work. There are going to be 300 words. Really I'm just testing it right here. What I want to know is should I be inputting all the words right into the code like I did with "hi" and "not 1" (Don't ask. those are just the 2 random words I picked to test this out with). OR is there a better way (maybe somehow to type all the words on a text file and have the program randomly pull one of them (I don't know how to do this).
Here is the code so far:
Public Class Form1 Dim word Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003 Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers 003 returns Bulbasaur Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI? -Databases would load internally? -I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?
I am attempting to make a small program for my church to power on and off the projector According to the user manual I need to send the following to it. Power On: C00[CR] | Like so: "C" -> "0" -> "0" -> "[CR]". However I am getting the following error when attempting to turn it on by the program: Conversion from string " " to type 'Byte' is not valid. [code]

I need to set up a small program/script that can test simple web functionality.I already have a window that automatically load the right URL. What I need now is pointers to how I can make that program return a code if it can load the site, then automatically log in to the site and return a code if it is able or not to log in. Then log out, wait for five minutes and then refresh the site and run again.

I am trying to write a small program that shows a clock using a timer in vb.net, I want the clock to display the time and date as a binary display i.e. if it's 10:01:21 the clock would display boxes or buttons in rows going from 1 to 2 to 4 etc upwards and changing colour when at certain times. the example time above would be a button for 8,a for 2 to make the 10 o'clock, a button for the 1 minute and a button for the 16, 4 and 1 seconds making 21 seconds.
i am trying to create a small program that will calculate the miles between to postcodes. The way im doing this is to fill out a webform for each postcode and collect the returned Long/Lat values (i will then calculate the miles from that)

I have this Quiz software that lets you create online multiple choice quizzes which are great for studying (I am in grad school and I'm trying to use everything I can to learn). So the Quiz software is great but it only lets you input questions by hand, one by one. I took a look at the .xml file that the quiz program spits out and came up with the idea to try and make a converter so that I can import many questions at once. I was hoping to try and solve this limitation by doing the following:
Take a .doc that say a tutor gives us with a bunch of practice questions, and then take that into Crimson Editor, and then format it so the question is on line 1, the multiple choice answers are on lines 3,4,5, and 6, (for the next question, the question would be on line 11, and the answers on lines 13, 14, 15, and 16, and so on) and then take that saved .txt file into my program, hit the generate button, and it will spit out the .xml file, and then import that into the quiz software to generate the online quiz.
Here is an attached screenshot of my program layout so far:
I figured out how to open a text file by watching simple youtube tutorials, but I don't know how to have it generate the stuff and have it show up in the bottom text box. I know how to do the coding to convert the txt to proper xml code but I don't know how to be able to save the contents of the bottom text window to an xml file.
I have made a small program displaying a string value coming from a serial device. When I run this on my laptop, then everything is just fine (VISTA OS), but when I run the same program on another computer (XP OS), then it shows some strange chars (Squares in distance number).
