Write A Small Program That Copies A File From A USB To Another Directory?
Feb 4, 2009
What I'm trying to do is write a small program that copies a file from a USB to another directory so a program already installed on the computer can load this data.Usually copying files from one directory into another wouldn't be an issue.
[Code]...
If possible i would also like to change the code i have written so it just loads January2009.txt from the "root directory" of the USB rather than having to specify H: because if i put the USB in someone elses computer this could change to G: and then it wouldn't work.

My program has to write to several files according the users settings, options, and other purposes. But when i tested this, it gave me an error, access is denied. I do not want the user to make it run as an admin nor do i want to find another way to do this, because the only other way is the temp dir and when user deleted files from there it could mess it all up.

I are trying to write a small program for iTunes using Windows COM. We are able to talk to iTunes and create popup boxes that show the current track, and a few other small things. However, when we try to set this info to a Label for example, we get:
InvalidOperationException was unhandled by user code Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Label1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
The program then hangs and locks iTunes from closing. I believe the issue is the event handler I have created, which I know very little about. We are using VB 2010, so that may change some things. We followed a rough example from a forum post HERE. If you scroll down the orange text, you will see a reply right after by Will Hughes with a "Handles iTunes.OnPlayEvent". If I add this to the end of my event handler, I get:
Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. Not sure if its important to the issue or not, but I found it curious. Our code is shown below.

Public Class Form1
Private iTunes As New iTunesApp

I am trying to write a small program that shows a clock using a timer in vb.net, I want the clock to display the time and date as a binary display i.e. if it's 10:01:21 the clock would display boxes or buttons in rows going from 1 to 2 to 4 etc upwards and changing colour when at certain times. the example time above would be a button for 8,a for 2 to make the 10 o'clock, a button for the 1 minute and a button for the 16, 4 and 1 seconds making 21 seconds.

I normally install my application in a directory in the c: drive as the software is only used within the company. There is some simple security; the program writes a 'bat' file that gets the volume serial number this then this is used to generate a licence file. Both of these files are written in the application directory.I'm giving the program to an external client and am going to install the program in the program files directory - but I find I cannot write a file to the Windows 7 program files directory.

i have a small program to get text from a DAT file. the program gets all the text and puts it into a rich text box (rtb1) then I click a button (btnformat) to split the text in the dat file into indexes so that I can output the indexes that I want to an excel file. This program works when I use small amounts of data but if I use say 800 lines of text the program crashes/ can't handle the volume of data and just stalls.

I am deploying my application on a 64 bit windows 7 system (setting the platform property to x86) , after the installation process the app needs to set its connection string in the config file; and this is where I am having issues, the app is not able to write to the config file if/when its located under the program files directory (no admin privileges??), the app works fine when installed on a public folder. Please let me know how to give admin or write access to my app when its installed to the default program files directory

I have a small database program that gets data from csv file, I created a function that formats the font color of textboxes based on dates and values.
CODE:
I place this in text changed event and I have a problem implementing it, because the date conversion will not take place until the data is loaded. The second part works but not the first(Date) part.
I can create a button and use its click event to format the text boxes just fine, however i wanted the text boxes to be formatted on the fly . The problem is no matter where i call the function the date conversion wont work.

How can I determine whether the person using my app has permission to create and write to a file in a given directory? I would prefer to not use some sort of try/catch.

I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?

What I mean is, I would like to make an exclusive program, but I don't want it falling into the hands of someone I didn't give permission to.Or perhaps make it require a password to function, and be able to change that password for all copies whenever I want.

Is it possible to create a windows application in VB to take form input of a text box and put that to a sharepoint server as new list item?I want an exe that when ran, opens to a form with a text box or two and a submit button, that creates a new list item on a sharepoint list.I am using VS 2005 , code in VB. All my google searches come up with stuff that seems to run on the sharepoint server itself, not a program i hand out to people to run from the desktops.I've tried so many permiations of what i found through google searchs and my brain just hurts atm. I'm new to VB + VS, my background is in VBA on Excel, and i have an solution that works in vba, but causes headaches due to macro security etc.

I'm trying to write a small app that finds the local machine's IP address (and SNM, DefGW, 1st DNS server, etc) then displays this nicely.
I don't want to go down the route of doing a Shell "ipconfig /all > somefile" then reading it in as I *know* this can be done another way.
I'm using VB 2008 Express Edition.

I just started using VB2010, but I've ran into some problems. I want to make a program that modifies a .jar file. I want to add content to it using a button. But I think that it's really hard to do that, because I don't know about opening file and adding files to it, then closing it quickly again.
