I got a file to copy using vb.net 2.0 from another server to a local folder:

What I'm trying to do is write a small program that copies a file from a USB to another directory so a program already installed on the computer can load this data.Usually copying files from one directory into another wouldn't be an issue.

If possible i would also like to change the code i have written so it just loads January2009.txt from the "root directory" of the USB rather than having to specify H: because if i put the USB in someone elses computer this could change to G: and then it wouldn't work.
In this question I'm using Visual Studio 2008. My code is quite simple, as it was used from a reference I grabbed off the web. I'm using ASP/VB.Net, IIS6.0 on a Windows Server 2003 box.I've looked at various sources online, and have not been able to piece together a proper result. Things I have tried:
On the server, I have mapped out the drive and the directory.Permissions seem to be properly set, impersonate is correct.If I were to list a directory in the actual directory "C:InetpubDirectory", there is no failure.I do understand this is incomplete for the Directory listing portion, this will only list files (so this will need to be modified.I have attempted to create a Virtual Directory, and the application presented the same error. On my local development machine, I have the same path created - same error. How am I able to view the contents of a shared directory and it's files?
in windows; when you right click over a folder you can know how many subfolder available (the total number) is there a way to get this number using simple code i am using vb2008

For instance I push the delete button and it goes through the entire list and deletes all the files in it from the designated drive and all it's sub folders.

I have a function that returns a value of the numbers of files, folders and subfolders in a directory. But i can't seem to handle the "UnauthorizedAccessException" which i get from certain read only files or folders. I tried to use both the DirectoryInfo.GetDirectories() and DirectoryInfo.GetFiles() methods. as you can see from the code below. This exception is thrown in start of the for each loop, so i'm not able to handel it with a try, Catch Ex As UnauthorizedAccessException to cintinue the loop.

I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:

If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database

Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?

It will then open that file, copy items into the rows beside where the information was entered. So far I cannot get the search for the file to open the workbook. Microsoft runtime script is included in the references.

View 11 RepliesI have a loop that copies a file from the internet and writes it to disk (using a WebRequest and Response with a Stream and FileStream).Once in the loop if the internet connection breaks, the loop continues but without downloading any content (even if the internet connection is back up). I cant seem to catch this exception. If i check for a valid internet connection within the loop then the speed to download the file is way too slow
View 3 RepliesI have a vb.net project that has 2 exe's that get built as well as the installer. The two exe's share a bunch of common files. I do not want to have two copies of the common files or mess around with having build events that copy things around (if possible).
My method was to create two projects in the same folder and have them point to the files they needed. This appeared to work until I tried to compile both apps at which point I get an error in a file called Application. Designer.vb. It seems that project files create this file in their folder and when I have two solutions in the same folder they conflict. So my next effort was to create the second project in it's own folder and just add the items as needed. The problem here is that VS2010 doesn't hold a link to a file in a different folder it copies the file to the new project folder. What is the vs2010 way to get this done?
I have a question about the App.Config file. My understanding is that the connection string is stored within this file. I have setup my application so that the App.Config file is not only written to c:users<username>appdatalocal but also to c:users<username>appdataoaming. I plan to encrypt the connection string, my question at this point is will it encrypt the connection string in ALL copies of the App.Config file? It looks like at this point that the App.Config file is stored in two places on the hard drive.

I am attempting to compare two directory trees. I have the program map the network drive and copy a directory. I need it to verify that the files copied successfully by comparing the source to the destination. If comparison returns equal then perform action1, if comparison returns unequal then perform action2.

We have a shared drive which has a folder in which we programatically store the reports we create in MS Access. Sometimes the user will lose the rights to insert the files in (write access) to that folder. But we are not shown any system generated error messages for this while adiing the reports. At a lter point of time we will come to know that those reports were not saved.I am looking for a code to check whether we have the write access to the particular folder and if not, throw a suitable error message.

I need to allow user to view the files available on shared area using my web application, how can I do that? Some years ago I solved this issue with Java / JSP opening into an output streaming the file, how can I do the same with ASP.NET and VB.NET?

The owner of IIS process is the only user that can write / read the shared area.
