Opening File Stored On Shared Area?

Jan 12, 2011

I'm working on a web application that stores some Office document (and any other kind of doc) on a remote shared area. I need to allow user to view the files available on shared area using my web application, how can I do that? Some years ago I solved this issue with Java / JSP opening into an output streaming the file, how can I do the same with ASP.NET and VB.NET?

This is how I organized my application:
C:Webapp -> Webapplication
emoteserversharedfolder -> shared area

The owner of IIS process is the only user that can write / read the shared area.

Office Automation :: Opening Windows Form Shared Add-in?

Oct 29, 2011

I've created a shared add-in for Office that adds a button to Office application.

If I am using the button to show a message, it works good:

Code:
Sub settingsPressed(ByVal control As Office.IRibbonControl)
MessageBox.Show("Hello")
End Sub

But I am not able to use it for opening Windows form:

Code:
Sub settingsPressed(ByVal control As Office.IRibbonControl)
frmSettings.Show()
End Sub

The .Show() command is not available and is not proposed by intellisense.

Of course I've added a reference to System.Windows.Forms

Design A Program That Can Encrypt And Decrypt Messages Stored In Simple Text Files Using A Private Key Stored In A Separate File?

Jun 13, 2011

Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:

Example (the "@" is the separator):

@
The character The Code End of line
A @ 4gh EOL
B @ 84!9 EOL

Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code.Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:

 Read any private key file
separator = readline(file);
while not EOF(file) do
tempStr = readline(file);

Set The Viewable Area To A Smaller Screen Area?

Jun 11, 2012

Trying to set the viewable area to a smaller screen area and have it cycle through as the person moves using collision detection to move the backgroudn image. Here is the start but its off to a bad start so far.

Public Class Form1
Dim Mapx As Integer = 600
Dim Mapy As Integer = 2000

[code]....

Basically the forum size is set to 600x2000 but the client should only allow you to view 600x600. I want it to add +1 once you "collide with a invisable box I'll add and this will redraw the screen.

It includes the upper Bar and lower frame. Is there an instruction to set the From's inner pixel size and not overal?

Create A Folder And Dropping A File In It, With Area To Detect Input

Dec 25, 2010

Make a folder, based on an input file - example :

You have a file named Movie1.avi on your desktop, u open up the program (that I want to make) and then simply drag drop that file into a box area, and then the program will create a folder, with the same name as the input file, but without the extension (folder name Movie1) and then automatically put that file into the folder it just created.

The new folder will be created in the same dir as the input file.

Multiple file support - is NOT needed.

I know how it will be done, but I don't know the code..

I have a program that can save user's input into a text file and load it back, but whenever I try to open the file and exit without selecting the file I get an error.(if i select the file and open it i don't get any errors).

This is the code that handles text file loading:
Private Sub Button4_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button4.Click
OpenFileDialog1.InitialDirectory = "C:"
OpenFileDialog1.Filter = "Text Files ONLY (*.txt) | *.txt"
OpenFileDialog1.ShowDialog()

The error is :"FileNotFoundException was unhandled. Could not find file at xxx". also I would like to know how to make it so that the initial file name for file saving is today's date. I do not get any errors when I try to save the file.

VS 2008 File Association And Opening Program From Save File

Jul 20, 2009

I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

Can Insert A File Into A Shared Drive

We have a shared drive which has a folder in which we programatically store the reports we create in MS Access. Sometimes the user will lose the rights to insert the files in (write access) to that folder. But we are not shown any system generated error messages for this while adiing the reports. At a lter point of time we will come to know that those reports were not saved.I am looking for a code to check whether we have the write access to the particular folder and if not, throw a suitable error message.

Read The .txt File To End And Return The Information Stored In The .txt File To This Line Of Code?

Dec 9, 2009

I'm using Visual Basic express 2008.The application I am working on is the first major project I have ever undertook with visual basics. The application is a launcher for a private server for world of warcraft.I have a menu bar that pulls the file path of the wow.exe and puts it in a hidden textbox, I then have another option that saves this text to c:wowexe.txt. All of this works GREAT!

How can I read the .txt file to end and return the information stored in the .txt file to this line of code.

Dim RetVal
RetVal = Shell("This is where I need the data from the .txt file to be seen", 1)

If your wondering why I don't just type in the path of the .exe, it's simple, not everyone installs World of Warcraft on the C drive.

File I/O And Registry :: Timers And File Opening?

Nov 11, 2008

I am using VB.net 2005 and I have a timer running on form1 that communicates modbus with a relay io board. There should be constant uninterrupted communication between the two devices and that is working until I open the data logging form2 and import data from a large sequential text file. While I am parsing data, the timer from form1 stops communicating with the modbus device. Once the data is done, the timer of form1 resumes communication with the modbus device. Is there some other method I could use to make sure the modbus communication is never interrupted.? Is there a command I can periodically run from form2 while the data is being parsed that will keep the timer on form1running?

When a change is made to one of the modules, we must make changes to the other two modules.If it is possible, how do you (where do you) create a single location for one file to be shared among three different applications? Hopefully this will avoid the unnecessay task of changing a file three times.

File I/O And Registry :: Recommended Shared User Space?

May 29, 2010

My program requires the reading and writing to a file that is shared among all users of a system. Currently I keep this file (an XML configuration file) in the directory that my application is installed to, which is C:Program FilesSomething by default. On Windows 7 (and probably XP too, but I haven't checked), regular users cannot write to this file. While I could probably set permissions as needed in my installation program, I'd rather find a more appropriate place for this file.All users need to read and write to it. Doing some Googling turns up C:ProgramData for Windows 7, but XP doesn't create this folder. Is there a common place on both platforms? Finally, is there an environment variable I can query for it?
