VB - VS 2010 Doesn't Hold A Link To A File In A Different Folder It Copies
Apr 4, 2012
I have a vb.net project that has 2 exe's that get built as well as the installer. The two exe's share a bunch of common files. I do not want to have two copies of the common files or mess around with having build events that copy things around (if possible).
My method was to create two projects in the same folder and have them point to the files they needed. This appeared to work until I tried to compile both apps at which point I get an error in a file called Application. Designer.vb. It seems that project files create this file in their folder and when I have two solutions in the same folder they conflict. So my next effort was to create the second project in it's own folder and just add the items as needed. The problem here is that VS2010 doesn't hold a link to a file in a different folder it copies the file to the new project folder. What is the vs2010 way to get this done?
I'm using visual basic 2010 express..I'm building my own web browser and want to add a download manager.I have been able to build one that will download a file if I type the file location into a text box. What I'm trying to figure out is how to have the download manager open when I click on a download link on a web page. How to make the download manager know it is a link to a downloadable file as opposed to something like a link to another webpage?
[Code] this code iterates through 5 text boxes to check that the value entered is numeric and also that there are no blank spaces. How would i put this into .net as it doesn't seem possible to hold the text boxes in array.
I wrote an application that copies files from Folder(A) into Folder (B) First it checks if the files exists if yes it will copy them and it will over write the them in fodler (B) and is working great , but if I have a file in Folder(B)that is located in a subfolder the file inFolder (A) will not be copied to the new location.
belwo is the code to copy the files if they exist :[code..]
I'm trying to get a progress bar to work while it copies all files in a folder to another. I've gotten the progress bar to show and display the progress, but during the copying process the app stops displaying anything if I click away and won't display anything until it finishes copying everything. It just freezes with a ghost image in the form while it's copying. How do I prevent the app from freezing during the copying process? I can't even minimize it or move the window around. I hope I made sense. Here's my code.
Dim Files = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(.SelectedPath, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly, "*.*") Dim i As Integer
Having difficulty with the module below failing on line 21. It is telling me: The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002) Basically what it is designed to do is look for a directory, if that exists then look for a file in that directory. If both = True then it should open the folder to browse the files. I believe the issue is with the "Program Files" being 2 words since the script runs using a root path, but I'm not sure how to format the path correctly to make it work?
I was able to add a file as-link to an project, as you can see in the image:see the difference in the icon for files added as-link and files added as"normal"but now don't remember how to add a file as link, or if this was because some add-in.I've vs2010 installed in both desktop and laptop, the same of a few coworkers, and I like to have several general file (used as links) in different folders as the project folders.
anyway don't sure of as-link or normal are important in an project.the only difference I've noted is that link files can't be edited when in debug.basically I'm thinking in add as-link the files that are shared/used in several projects, as general modules or classes that have functions or subs intended to be as shared.
I have the little recipe program that lets you print the selected recipe on to a 3x5 or 4x7 card. It works but only the very first time you open up the form. Once I click on the 4x7 menu and it brings up the recipe to print, I click the print button, it prints, but if I click the print button again it prints but it cuts the recipe off and only prints like a few letters of the ingredients and that is mostly off the left side of the page. The class is below used to print the 4x7. it basically just takes a screenshot of the form and makes it a bitmap. Is there a better way maybe?

I'm doing some directory work and in this directory, some of the subdirectories are symbolic links to a different location. I need to be able to determine which directly is a symlink and process them differently.
I am taking an Intro to Visual Basic class right now. When we do homework, we have to take it into class and put it into a folder that our professor has. When I save it onto my hard drive and I open it from Documents/Visual Studio 2010/Projects/HW Assignment 1, it opens everything perfectly. But on my flash drive, I have the same set up (E:/Homework Assignment 1) and I am not missing any files. But when I double click on the .sln file, it just seems to open the program without my project (display or code) showing.
i am developing a software called Logon screen changer xp and i get this error [URL] what is the solution the program is created in vb.net 2008 with .net framework 2.0 and it changes a registry value and replaces a file and copies a file very simple but there are security issues with xp
I am having a problem with visual studios 2010. I am creating ASP.net pages, but when I test/debug my code, the code-behind files runs the same code that was run the first time it was debuged this session. Meaning, to test new code-lines, I have to restart Visual Studio altogether?
I have a loop that copies a file from the internet and writes it to disk (using a WebRequest and Response with a Stream and FileStream).Once in the loop if the internet connection breaks, the loop continues but without downloading any content (even if the internet connection is back up). I cant seem to catch this exception. If i check for a valid internet connection within the loop then the speed to download the file is way too slow
So, if this is how to hold a key down for an infinite amount of time: keybd_event(CByte(Keys.Right), CByte(MapVirtualKey(Keys.Right, 0)), 0, 0) How can I hold it down for only 1 second?
I got a file to copy using vb.net 2.0 from another server to a local folder:
dim source as string = "\servernameshared directoryindex.htm" dim destination as string = "D:/local folder/index.htm" system.io.file.copy(source, destination, true)
What I'm trying to do is write a small program that copies a file from a USB to another directory so a program already installed on the computer can load this data.Usually copying files from one directory into another wouldn't be an issue.
[Code]...
If possible i would also like to change the code i have written so it just loads January2009.txt from the "root directory" of the USB rather than having to specify H: because if i put the USB in someone elses computer this could change to G: and then it wouldn't work.
I have a question about the App.Config file. My understanding is that the connection string is stored within this file. I have setup my application so that the App.Config file is not only written to c:users<username>appdatalocal but also to c:users<username>appdataoaming. I plan to encrypt the connection string, my question at this point is will it encrypt the connection string in ALL copies of the App.Config file? It looks like at this point that the App.Config file is stored in two places on the hard drive.
I'm trying to write a program where people can click a browse button, click a file to copy, and then click a second browse button and click a destination folder. I've tried
and get the error "Could not complete operation since a directory already exists in this path 'C:UsersSamDesktop'."
FileCopy TextBox1.Text, TextBox2.Text gives me "The target file "C:UsersSamDesktop" is a directory, not a file."
Both methods work if I put C:UsersSamDesktop'filename'.'extension' in the destination. But I want the user to be able to select the destination without having to type a new file name.
This seems almost to easy to ask, but I must be missing something simple.I've added a folder in the project explorer, by right clicking>add>new folderBut when I run under debug, I am unable to save to that folder as it's not in the debug folder, I get:"A Generic error occurred in GDI+"In this code, the first line saves the bitmap fine (in the debug folder), the second line fails with the above alarm..
"vb" If Not value Is Nothing Then value.Save(Application.StartupPath & "Image.bmp") If Not value Is Nothing Then value.Save(Application.StartupPath & "ImageImage.bmp")
Im trying to make a game launcher, and I want to have it first see if there are updates. I know this is a really simple problem, but I can't figure it out. This is the code. I want it to read the link.txt and version.txt in the same folder instead of C:/ Oh and make it so it unzips the update into the same folder, and replaces the old files for the new ones.
I'have this litle piece of code which worked nice under windows XP and Windows Vista but won't do a thing under Windows7.
I use it to store link adresses to apllications I wish to hoock up to. Basicly I first select a apllication with a "Open File Dialog" and then create a folder on a specified location wherin I create a txt.file to which I write the adress. So far so good. But Windows7 just doesn't let me create a folder

Is it possible to use ACCESS DB (MDB) on a SERVER. I would like to use the MDB file to hold my DATA. Has any1 used a multi user vb.net program with Access DB residing on a SERVER? I am just trying out something and do not want to use SQL SERVER for this project.
I'd like to create a function in my application in Visual basic 2010 that would:Simulate a left-mouse button click+hold and drag with a timer tick eventSet a new XY coordinates for the mouse to drag the item to a new locationRemove the left-mouse button click+hold command
Speed is critical in my application. As of now, I'm using an ArrayList to store a list of Strings and I use BinarySearch functionality of ArrayLists to search for an item. Would I be able to do this faster using String Collection and a for loop?
