Its two programs that work together called Script Writer and Script. My problem is, I need something that will install it on other peoples machines and will be easy to install and use to make. or possibly a way to manipulate the publish option under Vb 2008 to make a setup.exe for the file that won't install it in a funky place. It also needs to install both programs in the same directory. Because Script pulls its information from output.txt which Script Writer, writes information to output.txt. I can share the Vb scripts if you like. But I'm kinda perplexed on this. I've tried installing it after publishing it, then I go to the installation folder and copy its contents, then paste them in a seperate folder on my desktop. It works on my computer but not other peoples computers. Also when publishing my program from VB 2008 it won't publish anything in my debug folder, so html.txt and output.txt doesn't get published with the setup and doesn't install when the setup is ran. So I'm having a few problems here.[url]...

I am seeking advice or clarification of feasibility.Ihave a VB.NET (2008) application that, as an administrative tool, generates a user id, password and business role, and creates a file on disk with the aforementioned as content. This file needs to be deployed to users via a setup program that will put the file in a fixed path I specify. I was wondering if it is possible (and if so how complex it might b to mimic the functionality of the IDEs setup and deployment wizard within the application (that is to say buildthe msi file and setup.exesupplying the parameter of installation path).

I have created installer from Visual Studio Package and Deployment, but after successful installation, the installer files (like dlls, images and all supporting files) modified date or even creation date has been changed and all have the same date depends on the date of installation. Is there a way I can preserve or maintain it's original creation/modified date?

First off a short background of the project I am working on- I am developing a program that will be run off removable media (i.e. USB Flash drive). This will be a virtual desktop which you will be able to take with you and have the same desktop on any system. As we know drive letters can change with each host system the drive is plugged into, I need to be able to determine the path for the flash drive and access a specific folder ( i.e. My Documents)
I have an picture box(representing the icon) placed on my form (form1) and when I click the icon I want to be able to open and view the a specific folder from the portable drive. I need a click event that will determine a dynamic drive letter for a directory on the removable drive and then open that directory in an explorer window.

I was studying visual basic 2008 and had reached almost 60% of it when I was told that my course curriculum included visual basic 2005. I will now have to reinstall visual basic 2005(.net framework 2) instead of visual basic 2008(3.5 .net framework). I was wondering- will it be completely different vb2005 and vb2008? I really wanted to stick to vb2008, I was getting the hang of it. Also, I was wondering, can I run my application vb2008 in .net framework? Is there any way around? Also, I used advanced installer to build a setup file for my application? Now the question is will the other computer(the one which will install from the set up) need .net framework of 3.5(since I built apps in vb2008)?

I have found this link for creating custom Install of setup in vb .net[URL]...To create the custom action
On the File menu, click New Project. In the New Project dialog box, select Visual Basic Projects in the Project Types pane, and then click Class Library in the Templates pane. In the Name box, type OpenWeb.
The project is added to Solution Explorer.
On the Project menu, click Add Class, and then in the Add New Item dialog box, select Installer Class.Accept the default name of Installer1.vb. Click Add.Switch to code view by clicking click here to switch to code view on the design surface (or by right-clicking the design surface and clicking

I have added an installer calss in one of my projects that is used to start the aplication (when the setup project is run). To do this I use the commited event of the class and then I use Process.start("...MyApp.exe").This works fine and starts the application however, on Windows Vista the process that gets started is running as a system user rather than the logged in (desktop) user. This is causing me all sorts of problems when it comes to using "User special folders" as they are returned as empty strings since the user is the system.Does anyone know how I can start the application as the current user?

I wanted to create a login system that would have 3 tabs 1 for regular login, 1 for admin login and 1 for account creation. So far so good. It saves the accounts by saving them in a .urs file in the map called /Users/. However when this map does not exist it will show a error. I would want to know what code or so to put into the form_load which will make my program create the map /Users/ if it does not exist. As im not familiar with all the codes and stuff. The only thing i can come up with is
Mkdir "/Users/"
but then ofcourse it would create the folder users everytime i start the program. not i was still "Hello Worlding" a few days ago, so i really am unfamiliar with any sort of high-skilled programming which i probably dont understand.

I have an installer class that presents a form to the user. One of the functions of the form is to browse to a file using the open file dialog. This form functions fine when used in an application but hangs when calling OpenFileDialog.ShowDialog() during an installation on a Windows7 or Vista machine (Windows XP it works as expected). I get the same rusult when 'run as administrator' and with UAC off. I also get the same results when calling SaveFileDialog.ShowDialog() in the same context. The call doesn't throw an exception but causes the form to stop responding. Any suggestions on how to get this to work correctly?

I built a Windows application and I created the setup file and it installs and runs like I want it to. I would like the application to install in a certain directory on the computer it is installing on. That means the setup has to create the directory and install the application in it.I also have folders with pictures and a sound file I would like it to install in a separate directory under the directory previously created.

I have been googling and searching many different forums for what I think should be a fairly straightforward answer, but I am unable to get it to work, or find the proper way to get it to work. the closest that I seem to be able to find the answer is along the lines here: [URL]
I have a similar setup, where I have three projects defined, one is my UI, one is my DB Access, and one is my real logic. DB Access and Real Logic are dll's, and each have their own app.config file, that when I build individually, it renames to mylogic.dll.config in the debug directory like it should. The dll.config file at the moment contain only Logging Application Blocks from the EntLib 5.0 library.
However, when I build the main exe, only the exe.config is there, and the dll.config's are not. Now, for one of them, I have gotten around it by changing the name of the file in VS to mylogic.dll.config, and set it to copy to output always. This works, as if I change the level of logging in the config, its changed next time I run the program. However, to get that to work, in my Logic class, I needed to specify the name of the config directly to the Logger, which I would prefer not to do.
Now, to compound the issue, in the DB Access dll class, I want the config to hold Logging Application Block config settings, but it will also hold other settings, such as the connection string to connect to the DB as, and so on, and if I rename it from app.config, then the standard VS tools (like XSD Designer) dont work.
So, for something that seems to be so elementary, I cant seem to figure it out... perhaps my logic is wrong... but in the end, I dont want to need to manually merge the different app.config's from the dll's into the exe app.config by hand, as this is very error prone.

I am using a webbrowser control, which is used for both internet and folder exploring. How can I determine when viewing files on the local directory, which file is selected?
I ran across something in my searches saying there was a property under the webbrowser.document called SelectedItem. But this must not be in 2008.

I'm making a setup project for my application. I have a file, dbconnection.xml, that I want to be installed to C:Program filesmyAppdbconnection.xml regardless of where the user chooses to install the application. I've added the program files 'special folder' and have a subfolder, myApp, under that where I place this xml file.
For whatever reason, no matter where the user installs the application to, the XML file is placed in the install directory, not in c:program filesmyApp.

I'm currently developing an application for a POS Terminal using VB.net. Our project is approaching the last stage of development and I've been tasked to create 2 installers. 1 for Initial Installation, and the other for upgrade installation.
The project is composed of several elements. These are:
1. The application executable
2. Common DLLs that we developed
3. some resources (.resx and XML)
The requirement for the upgrade installer is that only those files with modification should be installed. (i.e. if only the xml or resx files are modified those are the only items that will be reinstalled, since the size of the upgrade installer is a consideration so we cannot reinstall everything).
I'm using Visual Studio 2005 for my deployment project but I'm a bit confused about how to set the properties of each file in such a way that during the upgrade, only the files that were modified would be updated and the rest of the files will not be removed since I'm setting RemovePreviousVersion property to True. I have a hunch that I need to do something with the custom action but I haven't been able to figure it out. The upgrade installer setup is almost the same as the initial installer except that all files are excluded.I tried to acquire a copy of Phil Wilson's book (The definitive guide to Windows Installer) but its not available in our local bookstore and it would take too long to order it.
Basically while tinkering with the settings/properties there are instances where the dll was not updated and there are also times when the application exe was removed.
I already verified that the Product code is the same for both installers and that I'm sure that the version number is being incremented for each upgrade.
If I will be redoing both installers from scratch, how should I go about it?
I'm also confused about the Condition property and the transitive property.

3) create an instance of the form
4) show the form
I know that using reflection I can do #3 this way, but I need to get the fully qualified form name first[code]...

I have a Class that will automate processes based on a set of variables. I have a finite number of boolean variables. If True, the process will run, if False, it won't.If a variable is True, I'll add it's corresponding process to a Queue of processes. What I'd like to know, is how should I setup the processes? Should it be in the new class or form class? Should it be at class level or not?
I was thinking I could just setup each process at Class level:
VB.NET Private p1 As New ProcessPrivate p2 As New ProcessPrivate p3 As New Process
Then, before the process is added to the Queue, I'll assign the appropriate properties.
Is there a better way? Or will this work just fine?

But, I also want to be able to access the variables something like this way....

MyVar.Items("Prop1") = "Prop1 Value"
MyVar.Items("Prop2") = "Prop2 Vaule"

I'm developing a vbnet/c#.NET based application that opens files with different applications(excel, word, etc).
The application is launched using Dim app As Process = Process.Start(ProcessProperties)
Now, when I have to terminate the process I use app.Kill() but I need to check if the document has been modified before killing it.
How can I handle that? And if it's possible, how can I launch the application native prompt for save?
