VS 2008 Windows 7 - Code That Starts The Disk Check On Boot Time
Mar 6, 2010
I made a code that starts the Disk Check on boot time it works fine on Windows Vista and Windows Xp but on windows 7 I checked the path at were windows 7 stores BootExecute and it is on the same path. Maybe the system is blocking it. Or do i have to change the code.
Here is the code:
Dim rk As Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey
rk = My.Computer.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession Manager", True)
rk.SetValue("BootExecute", "autocheck autochk /p ??" & Drive) 'Turn ON
The Drive String just gets the name of the drive for example C: or D:
I had more problems coding for a windows 7 machine then Vista.
1. Does Windows load the .Net framework at boot time? How can I check (eg. some DLL running in the background)? How much RAM does the framework use, so that I check I have enough to pre-load at boot time? Once loaded, will it stay in RAM?
2. What is the point of JIT once the application is installed on a given computer? Are there drawbacks about compiling into binary code applications that I use often on my own computer so that no time is wasted recompiling the application every time it's ran? If not, can I compile apps for which I only the .Net bytecode?
3. Is the framework downward-compatible, ie. will a 2.0 application run if I only have the 4.0 framework installed?
I have an application that should run every time when boot windows(xp/vista). I currently added this app to all programs and startup. How can I do in code. Is the best way to use registry and put the key in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoft Windows CurrentVersion Run. It is very important to start every time when windows start.
how to convert it to .net. I have the Imports System.Management figured out so far.......
strComputer = "." ' Local computer set objWMIDateTime = CreateObject("WbemScripting.SWbemDateTime") set objWMI = GetObject("winmgmts:\" & strComputer & " ootcimv2") set colOS = objWMI.InstancesOf("Win32_OperatingSystem")
I know similar questions have been asked/answered, but after looking across the net for 2 days I still haven't really seen an answer to the following question.rst, background info: My application starts at windows start as a user checkbox option (by using the run key in the registry.) I don't know if it is usual or not, but when the app auto starts on windows start, no saved user settings show up on the form (but they do when starting the program manually after windows is already running). I've tried both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. In case anyone needs or wants it, my code for accessing the registry is:
Dim Reg As Object Reg = CreateObject("Wscript.shell") Reg.RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMICROSOFTWINDOWSCURRENTVERSIONRUN" &
I have developed a windows based clock program using C#,which has all clock functions like: Show time in Digital/Analog Format. Set up Alarm. I want its service to start with windows boot up, so that I don't have to manually start it every time I logon to Windows. I would like to know how do i put that service in start up? For Example: I want the service "ClockService.exe" to run with windows start up, kindly let me know how do I do it.
I would like to know please how to check whether a string exists or not in a html code. I'm executing a for loop. Each time it checks a different url, so I want to be able to check each time if for example "<img" exists .
P.S: What's the difference between using
webrowser1.navigate
AND
dim request webrequest request = WebRequest.Create etc...
I want to check Disk compressed(compress drive to save disk space) property. I have following code to check it. But it always return false. whether it is compress or not.
Dim drive As String = "C" Dim parameter As String = "win32_logicaldisk.deviceid=""" + drive + ":""" Dim diskSize As New ManagementObject(parameter)
My typical application has a couple of textboxes, checkbuttons, radiobuttons, and so. I always want to load the settings the user used the last time when the program starts, and also want to save the settings as the users clicks "Save settings" or closes the application. When the user attempts to save the settings, I'll have to check each of the controls for input errors (sometimes they have to have a max length, other times only caps, other times other things, there isn't a rule for them all, everytime it'll be different), and only if everything OK i'll let him save the options. If there is something wrong, no option is saved and my error-control provider will pop up a description of the input type info that should be put in that control.
I've been designing this from scratch for all my projects, but it's being a pain to do it. So I'd thought maybe now was the time to do some library to help me. I thought initially that maybe it'd be a good idea to have all the controls on my form that are going to be part of this save/load process to have an attribute associated with them, something like this [Code]
Im using this , but were shall i use it , on form load ?
Dim regKey As RegistryKey regKey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun", True) regKey.SetValue("MyExecutable", "C:MyExecutable.exe") regKey.Close()
Also i have a checkbox on my form , how can i have it that if its checked before i close the application it will open up next time in start up windows , if its unchecked before i close it wont startup when windows starts ?
i am working on an application called logonscreenchangerxp i made my program and when i run it on xp virtualmachine i get errors the program is made using vb 2008 and using .net framework 2.0 i am not able to get full permissions to modify boot.ini file and a regisrty value and to delete a file
We have a project for a client that is written in VB.NET. In one of the projects, we have about 100 modules, which are all VERY simple. They're extension methods that convert between object types. Here is a small snippet:
Public Module ScheduleExtensions <System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Extension()> _ Public Function ToServicesData(ByVal source As Schedule) As ScheduleServicesData
when my program opens at windows xp befor the startup logo, so in sted of seen in the windows screen when you turn on your computer the my program opens and dose not show the windows logo.
is there a way I can get my program to run when the user logs on to Windows, but before the Start menu and everything shows up, and then when the program terminates, run Windows normally?
We have a Windows Forms application that needs to run on an ASUS EEE PC on-site. The application displays some data on the Form, and processes some data in the background. It is connected via Serial Port and USB to some custom electronics at the location. We could have used a regular 8051 microcontroller for processing and displaying the data, but since we added a barcode scanner along with a database into the equation, we needed a chip with an OS, so we went with the ASUS EEE PC minimalistic machine option, with Windows XP installed, and the platform used for coding the application as VB.NET and SQL Server.
We have two user logins created on the Windows machine - an admin login, and a limited user login. What we require is that when the employees manning the on-site location switch on the computer, and login into their limited user login, instead of displaying the desktop and exposing normal Windows functionality, the machine should directly start our Forms application, and not allow the user to quit or close or minimize the application in any way, but should only display our Forms application in full-screen mode. The Forms application should have a button which, when clicked, exposes the Windows Shut-Down dialog so that the machine can be shut down when not in use.
I am working on a program, obviously, and was wondering if there was a way to dynamically alter whether or not the program started with Windows. If there is a way that doesn't delve to heavily into API that would be wonderful.
I have ran into a small problem with my code. I got bored lately so I wanted to try a project. A program that will start up with windows starts up and it opens a webpage like google.
My code is below.
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1
[CODE]...
I use the code [code] System.Diagnostics.Process.Start [URL] when a button is clicked, but when I add that code in without clicking a button, it does not work. I have tried to put it everywhere, but it just does not work. I have also looked it up.
I have a Menustrip in Visual Basic 2008. My question is how do I check only one menu item at a time? Lets assumed I have a MenuScript that is titled Fruits. When you click on Fruits, you get a drop down of four fruits. Apples, Orange, Bananas and Mango.
I am not exactly sure what I am doing wrong. I need to convert Me.xCommissionLabel.Text = Format(Me.xCommissionLabel.Text, "currency") to a toString, so it displays a dollar sign, 2 decimal places. so I did this. Me.xCommissionLabel.Text = commissionLabel.ToString(CType("C", IFormatProvider))When I run the program and input the data I get: A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in Commission Project.exe.
