View 3 RepliesI'm trying to install an app on a windows server that is always on, but I'm running into problems. I've heard that I shouldn't make it a windows service (and would personally rather have a dialog app so I can see progress, etc) so I'm trying to use task scheduler. However, task scheduler keeps trying to close my app prematurely when it should only open it and leave it open.how I could have a dialog app run on startup (and stay running) on my server?

View 1 RepliesI used this code to make my program to startup with windows it should add a registry entry:
Dim key As Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey
key = Microsoft.Win32.Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun", True)
key.SetValue("MyApp", Application.ExecutablePath)
The problem is that it underline KEY and say declaration expected but shouldn't dim do the job for the declaration.
I have a solution that has three projects. One is a service, one is a form, and one is a class library. I use the form for debugging, my logic is complete now I would like to just call.

View 3 RepliesIf I make a button that starts command prompt:
Process.Start "cmd.exe"
I want text to be entered as soon as it starts. Like "ipconfig" is typed in by the pc, and hit "enter" automatically.
I want a prompt. Like
Process.Start("cmd.exe")
My.Computer.Keyboard.SendKeys("net users" & vbCrLf)
If you enter "net users" in the command prompt all the local users on the pc appear. I want a textbox in my app, that if a user types in "kyle", and click the button, the first code I gave starts, and after "net users" the text in the textbox is there as well, so it will look like this:
net users Kyle
I can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.
But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.
I have a windows form that contains a table layout panel extending the whole form, the size of this table layout panel may change at run time according to it's content, how can I make it's parent form automatically take its size,

View 6 Repliesi am trying to make my own user authentication system after i log on with the windows authentication. I want the program to automatically start on startup and i want to enable:
NoDeletePrinter : Disables printer deletion
NoAddPrinter : Disables printer adding
NoRun : Removes run from the start menu
NoSetFolders : Removes folders from the Settings option on Start Menu
NoSetTaskbar : Removes taskbar settings
[Code]..
Because i dont want someone else to just delete or tamper with the files that my program made to authenticate me. After i enter my credentials in my program and they are correct i want to disable these. I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and my computer is Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium.
I just made my first 3.5 .NET app and its a simple image viewer. What I want to know is how can I set up my app so when a user clicks on a .jpg image file, it will automatically start up my app. I want it to be my default .jpg viewer.

View 17 RepliesWe have a Windows Forms application that needs to run on an ASUS EEE PC on-site. The application displays some data on the Form, and processes some data in the background. It is connected via Serial Port and USB to some custom electronics at the location. We could have used a regular 8051 microcontroller for processing and displaying the data, but since we added a barcode scanner along with a database into the equation, we needed a chip with an OS, so we went with the ASUS EEE PC minimalistic machine option, with Windows XP installed, and the platform used for coding the application as VB.NET and SQL Server.
We have two user logins created on the Windows machine - an admin login, and a limited user login. What we require is that when the employees manning the on-site location switch on the computer, and login into their limited user login, instead of displaying the desktop and exposing normal Windows functionality, the machine should directly start our Forms application, and not allow the user to quit or close or minimize the application in any way, but should only display our Forms application in full-screen mode. The Forms application should have a button which, when clicked, exposes the Windows Shut-Down dialog so that the machine can be shut down when not in use.
I am working on a program, obviously, and was wondering if there was a way to dynamically alter whether or not the program started with Windows. If there is a way that doesn't delve to heavily into API that would be wonderful.
View 1 RepliesHow can I make my app perform an event (in this case updating) on the first run, and every five starts after that? So on the first, then the fifth, then the tenth etc. I know I could do it by adding 1 to a settings variable every startup, but I can't figure out how to check if it is a multiple of five. Or is there a better way?
View 9 RepliesI have ran into a small problem with my code. I got bored lately so I wanted to try a project. A program that will start up with windows starts up and it opens a webpage like google.
My code is below.
Imports System.IO
Public Class Form1

I use the code [code] System.Diagnostics.Process.Start [URL] when a button is clicked, but when I add that code in without clicking a button, it does not work. I have tried to put it everywhere, but it just does not work. I have also looked it up.
I know similar questions have been asked/answered, but after looking across the net for 2 days I still haven't really seen an answer to the following question.rst, background info: My application starts at windows start as a user checkbox option (by using the run key in the registry.) I don't know if it is usual or not, but when the app auto starts on windows start, no saved user settings show up on the form (but they do when starting the program manually after windows is already running). I've tried both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. In case anyone needs or wants it, my code for accessing the registry is:
Dim Reg As Object
Reg = CreateObject("Wscript.shell")
Reg.RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMICROSOFTWINDOWSCURRENTVERSIONRUN" &
