I just made my first 3.5 .NET app and its a simple image viewer. What I want to know is how can I set up my app so when a user clicks on a .jpg image file, it will automatically start up my app. I want it to be my default .jpg viewer.

NoDeletePrinter : Disables printer deletion
NoAddPrinter : Disables printer adding
NoRun : Removes run from the start menu
NoSetFolders : Removes folders from the Settings option on Start Menu
NoSetTaskbar : Removes taskbar settings

Because i dont want someone else to just delete or tamper with the files that my program made to authenticate me. After i enter my credentials in my program and they are correct i want to disable these. I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and my computer is Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium.

I've heard that I shouldn't make it a windows service (and would personally rather have a dialog app so I can see progress, etc) so I'm trying to use task scheduler. However, task scheduler keeps trying to close my app prematurely when it should only open it and leave it open.how I could have a dialog app run on startup (and stay running) on my server?

View 5 RepliesI haven't used VB in decades and I'm restarting with what I thought would be a simple program. I have two fields on a little form, both of which display a date (dd/mm/yyyy). Field1 is an entry field except on load where is contains a date calculated from field2 (which is 'now' upon application load). Field1 is 'now' + 10 days. This is the default state.
Once loaded (with the data described above), the user can input only in field1. Field2, an inactive field used only for display, is field1 - 10 days. After 15 seconds, fields 1 and 2 revert to their default states as described in the first paragraph. I'm getting all messed up with the 'on load' state. I'll start playing with the timer once I get the initial stuff done.
Firstly I apologize as my question may seems repeated to you. But I am sure the details will not. I am writing a VBScript in VB.Net to automate some operation in SAP. The script is recorded from SAP. All I need to do is to put this script under a button click event on vb.net. I have done this far. But get stuck at one point. While doing the execution of the script, SAP displays a Message Box with two button labeled "Redetermine" & "Cancel" and I have to Click on "Redetermine" button to make the script run further.
The number of appearance of this message box is not fixed. Some times it appears twice and some times more than twice. My question is "How can I detect the Message Box from my VB.Net application and automatically click on the "Redetermine" button if the message box appears"?

View 2 RepliesI can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.
But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.
I don't know how to add an savefiledialog to a picture viewer that you can build like in the first Microsoft tutorial.

i have a word template that needs to be used in an application so to make the path simple i placed the template in the debug file and i used application.stertuppath and it worked but when i publish the application it does not work it seems that the template is not included in the application but even when i place it manually in the aplication folder it does not work

I wanted to make the application to count how many times it has been runned..so I could make something like a restriction. You know..like run 10 times and get full version.. anyway..I did not find anything to count the startups..so I tried to make the application to create a folder on startup and save a empty file to it and count how many files are in that folder and display it in label which will say ' Application started for ' + files in the folder + 'times'. I think It could work but I get stuck when I want to save the empty file..I even made a RichTextBox for saving it but it just don't save even if I put text in the textbox..it just create the folde. I have made other Apps which creates folder on startup and then a timer which will save the file every X mins and it worked I even copied the code from that project but still it isnt working... Ill post my code below please help me.

I wish to have two EXE files in my project. Say one EXE has startup form ABC.vb and other is BCA.vb I am not able to change the name in Build so whatever is my startup file, my exe file's name remains the same. How to change it?
View 1 RepliesI have an application I wrote that replaces Windows Explorer as a shell for Kiosk purposes. The application maintains two configuration files: one that is used and maintained for application purpose (app.config) and another that is stored in another directory so it doesn't get overwritten when the GUI attempts to update from a repository. When the application is ran in a normal environment it works perfectly. However when it is used during start-up or when switching users, the application can't seem to load the information in the other directory.

Another function later attempts to retrieve the data from the rootCP string but can only access it if the application was started after system start-up.
I am using VB 08 running an openfiledialogue wanting to get the result of the GDS file (*.gds) to be the default extension at the drop down menu instead of All file when the openfiledialogue box opens.
I coded it with:

but the results i get in the open file dialogue box remains as all files being in the drop down menu as the default file extension. How to i set it to ".gds" format?

My.Computer.FileSystem.MoveFile to move logs of a command line application to the directory that I want.The problem I'm having is that, if the file already exists, the program errors out. Which makes since.I could just use conditional logic to replace or rename the file if it exists. The problem with the former is that I need to keep all of the logs and the problem with the latter is that, without knowing how many files could exist, I wouldn't know when to stop renaming files.If I knew that there were only going to be 5 files, then I could work with it. But since there probably won't be a finite amount of files, I need something automatically amend the new log to another name. For example, if I had "Test", then the log would amend the next file Test1 and so on.

I wish to copy it to a subdirectory, but it looks like there is not an option other than the output directory. I cannot embed the files as a resource, because the user should be capable of modify or replace them. There are other options, as content files, but I cannot find how to manage them, or if they are useful for this purpose.
