VS 2008 - Code To Make My Program To Startup With Windows

Feb 15, 2010

I used this code to make my program to startup with windows it should add a registry entry:

Dim key As Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey
key = Microsoft.Win32.Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun", True)
key.SetValue("MyApp", Application.ExecutablePath)

The problem is that it underline KEY and say declaration expected but shouldn't dim do the job for the declaration.

C# - Automatically Run Program On Windows Server Startup?

May 13, 2011

I'm trying to install an app on a windows server that is always on, but I'm running into problems. I've heard that I shouldn't make it a windows service (and would personally rather have a dialog app so I can see progress, etc) so I'm trying to use task scheduler. However, task scheduler keeps trying to close my app prematurely when it should only open it and leave it open.how I could have a dialog app run on startup (and stay running) on my server?

I'm making a really complex program that will run only on windows XP (it will synchronize more 100 computers just like a net cafe). How can i make the executable run at startup? For every user not only e.g. Administrator...

1. This is the path for the application startup: Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Startup) Does the same path exists but for all the users ?

2. Is this possible through modifying the registry ?

Hide Form On Startup If App Occurred Because Of Windows Startup?

Jun 20, 2010

I can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.

But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.

Make Program 2008 App Steal Focus On Windows 7?

Jan 19, 2012

I'm trying to create an application in VB.net that can come to the front once a certain condition occurs (in this case, a file being created). I've tried the following code, but it just results in the taskbar button blinking on Windows 7:

Me.Activate()

I understand the reason for this, and I completely understand why people don't want any random application to steal focus (I hate it too). This is an extremely limited use application (only 3 computers will actually be using it), and the users in this case would want the application to popup in front (there will be an option to turn it off too).

Any ideas if this is still possible to do on Windows 7?

VS 2008 : Slow Execution Speed During Windows Startup?

Mar 30, 2009

For some reason, .NET applications that I've written seem to have issues if they're launched when Windows starts (by being in the Startup folder for instance). An application that can finish in 3/10 of a second if one launches it normally may seriously take 45-90 seconds to finish if it was launched when Windows loads. Even if I just manually wait 30 seconds after login and launch the program, it'll complete virtually instantly while a copy launched at startup is still struggling along, so it isn't just that Windows is still loading...this continues AFTER that finishes and all HDD activity stops.Writing something to disk using an IO.anything goes at about 20KB/s during this event.

VS 2008 - Program Running At Startup / Minimize Down To Tray

Apr 16, 2009

1) Is it possible to allow a vb 2008 program to run at computer startup. Meaning, one the computer is turned on, it will load up with all the other startup programs so that it is ready to use.
2) I also would like to know if it is possible to have the program minimize down to the tray where all start up programs usually appear. So that instead of it cluttering up the task bar it will be in the tray and when they clcik or double click it, it will open back up.

Display A Windows Form BEFORE "Startup" Form Is Loaded In Program?

Dec 20, 2010

My company's main software package includes a hefty configuration library which loads on startup. This config library includes some mandatory settings which, if not supplied (via command line arguments), cause the entire application to exit.

This has never been an issue for our users, who launch the software via scripts which have the needed command line arguments supplied automatically. But sometimes when debugging our software we developers forget to specify the necessary arguments in Visual Studio's debug options; it's then very annoying to be greeted with the message Config specification invalid -- missing required parameters X, Y, and Z -- shutting down (I'm paraphrasing, of course).[code]...
