VS 2005 - Forcing An Owner Draw Property
Oct 27, 2011
some controls(e.g. buttons/labels) dont have a drawmode property. Im looking to create buttons with rounded corners because they just look nicer :P. Now, the problem is that even when you have a custom paint event, the button just gets drawn first and the custom paint event will draw on top. Especially with rounded corners, where you see the parts of the default button in the corners. Is there a way to only execute the custom paint event / block the default paint?

I have a listbox which works perfectly fine in regular mode. I'm experimenting with the other modes which allow you to switch font.
As soon as I go to ownerdraw mode, either variable or fixed, it is blank when I try to add items to to it. It throws no error but just doesn't do anything. There has to be something else I have to do, to tell it how I want to display it. But I don't know what. I'm using version 2003 of .NET I'm using "Items.add" to add items.
I'm using this line to set font :
lbox.Font = New Font("Arial", 8.25, FontStyle.Bold, GraphicsUnit.Point, Nothing)
Then I'm setting it unbold later. Why is it working perfectly fine without owner draw? Granted it isn't changing the font but it's working fine. What do I have to do to make it work otherwise, so that I can change the font? It's pretty much a standard listbox, without many changes made to the properties.

I have created tooltips on a form from the toolbox and defined them as owner draw. I tied them to either a panel or a grid and they show up as black boxes the size that would contain the text that is assigned. If I had two areas next to each other, the text shows up. Neither the background or the forground color is black, so the black of the box is not from a color assignment. This has worked at one time and I do not know what changed.

(VS 2008, VB, 3.5 framework) Files have my name in the Owner property of the file, I want the owner value to be blank. I want to create a VB app that will loop through each file and clear out the owner property value. About 40 folders with about 20,000 files. What is the best way to loop through folders, and update files? Can the owner property value be set to blank?

I've been developing a progam at work and for some reason I set the TransparencyKey of my main form to a color rather than transparent.I left it and didn't even think about it until I noticed that the form had a delay when redrawing. All the controls are black boxes for a split second. See attachment.
I never noticed it before but the computers we use here at work aren't made for graphics. They've got various GHz speed celerons and integrated video cards.
I don't need the TransparencyKey in this program so it's not really an issue for me. I was just wondering if anyone knew why it's redrawing so slowly. What is .NET doing when drawing the form?

I have a problem using LVIF_IMAGE as a mask to the subitem, the icon is drawn but the icon's transparency is disregarded, that is there is a square around the icon when it is being drawn. And I would like to be able to draw multiple icons in the same subitem and apparently LVIF_IMAGE will not be able to do that.I have been searching for other means and learned that I could ownerdraw the subitem like the following. But the problem now is that only the first column is being selected when I click on a row even if FullRowSelect is true.[code]I just want to be able to set or draw icons to a subitem,

I'm currently working on a project in which at one point, the user may right click a button which brings up a contextMenuStrip. I am already able to find the owner accurately from that strip, and manipulate the button clicked as follows:
Dim myItem As ToolStripMenuItem = CType(sender, ToolStripMenuItem)
Dim cms As ContextMenuStrip = CType(myItem.Owner, ContextMenuStrip)
Dim buttonPressed As DataButton = DirectCast(cms.SourceControl, DataButton)
But now for the tricky part. Within this contextmenuStrip, I have a DropDown menu with multiple items in there. I would assume you would be able to work your way up the ladder doing casts like above in the manner of
ToolStripDrowpDownItem > ToolStripDropDownMenu > ToolStripMenuItem > ContextMenuStrip
Unfortunately, when I try to get the sourcecontrol from this menuStrip, it return Nothing. Any ideas on how I can get the button that was pressed from this toolStripMenuItem? My current code is as follows (in which the sourceControl is Nothing)
Dim myItem As ToolStripDropDownItem = CType(sender, ToolStripDropDownItem)
Dim dropDown As ToolStripDropDownMenu = CType(myItem.Owner, ToolStripDropDownMenu)
Dim menuItem As ToolStripMenuItem = CType(dropDown.OwnerItem, ToolStripMenuItem)
Dim cms As ContextMenuStrip = CType(menuItem.Owner, ContextMenuStrip)
Dim buttonPressed As DataButton = DirectCast(cms.SourceControl, DataButton)
how to go about doing what I did in that first method, but just working my way up from further down the ladder?

I understand that I need to run ... corflags.exe /32BIT myapp.exe against my VB .Net app if I want to make sure it's associated 32 bit dll's will be forced to run as 32 bit on 64bit computers.
If this will work this looks like a good idea to me since I don't have the opportunity to recompile them on a newer Visual Studio that supports targeting 32bit. But I have a couple of questions...
Question 1:Is there an easier way to get the corflags.exe program without having to download the whole .Net Frameword 2.0 SDK?
I guess this is what I need to download if there is no easy way to get the corflags.exe file...

I am using VB.Net 2008 Express on Windows XP, and am trying to use WM_LBUTTONDOWN in one of my programmes.
CODE:
This appears to work correctly, in that it goes to the Exit button and I can see the effect of WM_LBUTTONDOWN and WM_LBUTTONUP, but the programme does not actually exit; it just sits there with the Exit button highlighted. I added all the TimeDelay() subs to see whether it needed the extra time.
I also made the following changes, and again, it goes to the Exit button and I know that it is on the button using Spy++, but the programme does not actually exit
CODE:
How do I force it to exit?

Is there a way to force a form to be active and shown?
From another form i am doing:
Me.Hide
Form2.Show
When this code is run, the Form2 is minimized.
I've also tried:
Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal
in the load event, and it still loaded it in minimized mode.
