Array Like A Queue
Nov 30, 2011I have an array that I'm basically treating like a queue (FIFO)I'm trying to decide the fastest way to implement this.Currently I'm just iterating through and shifting everything up an element and placing the new data @ 0. This was fine when I was dealing with 1000 element arrays, but now I'm moving up to 100k element arrays and it's stalling my code.It has been useful to have the data in array form because I'm using the array.sort method and a few other statistical modifications that use the element number (of the sorted list) to work.I'm not sure if VB lists are (like Java) pointer based, and if so I think that shifting pointers would execute faster than my current approach.My question is, if I did move to a list would it a) be faster, and b) is there a way to call a quick sort from the list class?If the execution time is the same for the array vs. list is there a better way to make a FIFO structure in VB?

VS 2005 Byref / Byval - Copy The Image Property To A Queue?
Jun 23, 2009I have a 3rd party (c#) class that raises an event. on accsing this event i want to copy the image property to a queue.

But when I view myQ at a later date it tells me the parameters of the images are not valid.Is it adding them by reference?i would have through adding an object to a queue was byval. how can i enforce this?

I have to have multiple instances of my program running, so I was wondering if this would be a problem with the queue? I have tested it and it looks fine, but I didn't know if it is by coincidence, or if the queues were separate.

Implement New Array Class
Nov 21, 2009I want to modify the base Array class by creating a new class called "FileArray".I have some text files that are read into a string array. Each element in the array is a line from the text file. I want to update the GetValue method by overloading it or overriding it so that it will update some value that will give an indication to what the last line was. I have a couple of ideas on how I can do this:
1) Use a public integer, like intLine, that gets updated everytime GetValue is called.
2) Create a new property of Array, such as "LastLine" that would return the last line number (which would basically be the last index value +1) and then use a public array to store the files (though this is less desirable as the array may be used by several different functions)
An easier way would be to be able to determine the last element that was returned, which is basically what I think I am describing above.

I am trying to sort by the 7th item in the 2nd dimension. The other items are not important as they just contain other data but I would like to have the data kept together instead of creating another array for the bubble sort.

Mar 17, 2009I'm sure this should be easy but I'm having trouble getting my head around it. I shall try to explain what I need as best I can.I have a string called SoftwareGroupName. If that string is empty, I need to run some code that logs a call in our Helpdesk. So far, so simple.I then check two other variables, AuthorityLevel and InstallType. If the AuthorityLevel is anything other than "OnRequest" then a call is logged in the Helpdesk System. Again, so far, so simple.
The problem occurs when the AuthorityLevel is "OnRequest". At this point, the application should again log a call in the Helpdesk Call with a status of "Resolved" as well as add the user to the relevant group in Active Directory.What I need to be able to do is, effectively, say "If the AuthorityLevel is OnRequest and SoftwareGroupName is not empty then go ahead and create the call and update the group. However, if softwaregroupname is empty then DON'T even try and update the group and create a call with a different status (e.g. Assigned).Here's what I'm doing so far. But it seems wrong to have to check that SoftwareGroupName is empty twice.

Implement A Non-cached File Copy Using 2005?
May 7, 2009I have a program I wrote that copies select files from one remote computer to another.
The set up I for testing is, one computer(a) at home running the program connected to my work's network via VPN and two computers(b,c) at work side by side on the same network. I am trying to copy the files on computer b to computer c, while the program is running on computer a.
The only thing wrong with this is, the files seem to be caching to a temp folder on computer a then going to computer c. When it should be going straight from computer b to computer c. Is there a way to keep the files from trying to cache on the computer running the app?

May 24, 2012I am trying to figure out a way to implement password protection on documents that a program I am working on creates. They should remain with the document regardless of where it is copied to or sent.Here is a rough sequence of events:
1. Application Opens (no document loaded).
2. User opens document with extension registered to application.(could also be # 1 if they clicked on the document directly)
3. Application Security checks document for security and prompts if necessary.
4. If prompted, user enters password.
5. Application checks password.
6. If passed, document opens, otherwise user is notified of failure.

And really, in practice, my printing feature works. My problem is that each line is printed on a separate page of paper and I can't find a way to just like, print a page.
