VS 2005 Required On Getting Multiple Files Size
Jun 5, 2010
I need to get file size of some files, which i can get very easily by using FileInfo class.. As of now, I'm looping through all files in My Directory and then taking their file sized into a notepad. But the real problem for me is,Like this, I'm having around 100 Root directories, each contains ~ 1000 subdirectories and each sub directory contains ~ 80 files..Yes, I know, that, I can use a recursive function and loop through all dirs and sub dirs and thus the files.. which was taking huge efforts in terms of time.I want to know, If there was any other alternative, which will make my task more easier and efficient.

How do you move multiple files to the recycle bin all at once? I want the recycle dialog box to show that says "Are you sure you want to send X items to the Recycle Bin" I have tried the API functions with SHFileOperation and have tried the My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile but i can only delete one file at a time. I do not want to delete an entire directory but rather just a selection of files that i specify just like what can happen in windows explorer.

I recently had to format my PC, So I moved my project files and build files to my External Hard Drive, and continued to work on my project.. I started to receive emails saying that the application is saying "Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact application vendor for assistance." After clicked view details, I found this:
+ Downloading file:///C:/Users/myuser/Downloads/Browser.application
did not succeed.
The .application file is not in Downloads, its supposed to download it from my website. And if I were to open my project on a computer with it already installed, it won't check for updates - it opens really quick without the "Viewing Application Requirements" window.

When a project is built in VB, the executable file is created in the \bin\Release folder. Apart from the executable there are other files that get created:
MyProject.application
MyProject.exe.manifest
MyProject.pdb
MyProject.xml
Are these files required to run the executable? Is having just the MyProject.exe file in the setup enough? And what are these files for?

Hi, can anyone help me with a click once deployment query?I have packaged an application, using Click Once - it all works absolutely fine, with the exception of some files I need on the C: drive. For example: My application populates an Excel.xlt template with data, using an export function. The path of the template is c:program filesaem
eport.xlt
If the application is packaged, there is no option that I can see where you can include this template and the path to the file. The only way around it is to manually copy the template (and half a dozen other files in the same folder), after the click-once deployment - but this kind of defeats the object.

I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.

I have a program that uses a font that's not stored on many computers, so the font comes with the program, in its resources. Before I was writing to a file and loading the font from that location, but I remember now that sometimes you don't have permission to write to a file. My application will not write to any other files, and having this font available is very important. So, I decided to use Marshal.AllocHGlobal() to store the font in memory, then read it back. (I'm using a PrivateFontCollection object to store these fonts.)Does Marshal.AllocHGlobal() require permissions? Is it more likely that it will throw an exception than IO.File.WriteAllBytes()?

I am trying to returns records based on the last name of a customer in an access db. When I run the query in Access it works fine, the name in the examples returns 3 records with that last name. I use the same basic structure for other queries based on other fields (ID, UnitID etc) and they work fine.

I have four PCs. I developed a Visual Basic 2010 program (using Visual Studio 2010 Professional) that runs fine as an .exe file on the PC on which I developed it. It will not run on the other 3 PCs I have even though all are up to date and have .net 4 installed. I shared the file with others and they were unable to run the program as well. How do I get my .exe file to run on other PCs (that do not have Visual Studio 2010 Pro installed on them)?

I have a website that has highly granulised access and hence requires many web.config files. The problem is I would like to trim the menu so that only certain users will have access to certain folders. I have enabled trimming and setup roles in the sitemap, however when I access the page the menu is not show, as I am authorized to view the default page which is not in a subfolder. When I type the url of a page in sub folder's I have access.
How should I handle this:
A site map for each web.config file - don't know how this will work Removing the sub web.config file to only use a single one

I'm developing an application to help law enforcement retrieve and analyze logs and other files left by the use of Pidgin (a multi-protocol messenger client). Right now I'm nearly done, but I want to add the ability to search chat logs for user-defined words or phrases and I don't even know where to begin.
Chat logs are stored as html documents in a folder/sub-folder/sub-folder/sub-folder fashion, where each sub-folder can have dozens of sub-folders inside of it, and the final sub-folder can have dozens if not hundreds of chat logs. If anybody could point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
(Also, this is the first program I've written since about 2005, and I'm essentially teaching myself VB as I go. If you'd like to see what I've cobbled together so far, you can find the program here.)

I've been reading gobs of articles on FTP upload in ASP.NET recently and they all seem to make sense, but every time I've tried implementing them I either get an empty file uploaded, or no file at all. Here are some of the articles I've been reading:Managing FTP Transfers from an ASP.NET Web Page By John Peterson FileUpload Control Doesn't Give Full Path...How to: Upload Files with the FileUpload Web Server Control I know exactly what the problem is but I don't know how to fix it. I can pass the file name from the FileUpload control, but the path does not exist for security concerns. However, the StreamReader object requires the fully qualified path of the file to be uploaded, so how the heck do I get that? I'm at my wits end!Let's use the example by John Peterson that I linked above. Here's the code:
Protected Sub btnUploadFile_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim myFtpWebRequest As FtpWebRequest
Dim myFtpWebResponse As FtpWebResponse
[code]....
