This I'm almost certain is an easy problem for those with more experience than me. I just need a routine that trades the places of 2 members of a collection class.
For example: If there are 5 objects stored in a CList of() collection class, I want to swap item # 3 and #5 (or any pair of indexes), what would be the code?
This simple problem has my head spinning because once you remove a member all the indexes change.
I've reviewed the links that were offered and don't find an answer. Neither has a lot of searching helped, probably because I can't think of a reasonably short way to ask the question. I hope that I've at least found the proper forum and category.
In my VB 2010 code, I've defined a structure that has about 30 elements. I want to sum the properties (they are all singles) of two members of the corresponding collection. I understand that I can do something like:
member1.property1=member2.property1+member 3.property1 for the entire set of properties of member2 and member3 to produce a completely defined member1 What I wonder is whether or not there is a way that uses fewer lines of code - I know that I can't do:member1=member2+member3, for example.
I've read that modules are basically shared classes. For a module though, you can call a method directly without prefixing the module name. So I can do this: methodTest("abc", mod1Enum.enum2)But for a class with shared members I have to fully qualify the method call, and in this case fully qualify the enum:[code]In our conversion from VB6 to .NET the need to fully qualify all calls like this might be an argument for us to bring our VB6 modules over as modules instead of converting them to classes.
I display some values in a combobox that come from an array.By default the selected index of the combobox should be the first item.
If cboAtt.Items.Count = 0 Then For i = 0 To nums(att) cboAtt.Items.Add(cat(att)(i)) Next
[code]....
This works perfectly, but now I want the combobox to display the new (initial) value that is swapped, except than when I do that the cboAtt_SelectedIndexChanged event is triggered which results to an infinite loop --> crash.
Im programming a simple console application for the hell of it that performs a simple encryption on a string entered by the user. The encryption is simply swapping the 2 adjacent letters throughout the string. i.e encryption would become nercpyitno.
vb 2008 drag and drop replacing text in txt1 with text intxt2 and replacing txt2 with txt1 and all the other textboxes. more than one time. So far I h get it to swap the text from txt1 to txt2. example txt1 = "one" and txt2 = "two" after drag and drop txt1 = "two" and txt2 = "one" now we need to keep swapping with 2 more textboxes. Here is the sode so far.
I have a client who needs a database to display products. He would like to have the product attributes in the rows headers and new records added to the columns. I have a collection of a class that would contain the products and am binding it as a data source. however all I can get is the attributes to show up in the columns and the records to show up in the rows.
Create two arrays, ask the user to populate them and display both arrays Swap the contents of the arrays using loops and then display the content.
What is the best method to have the end user populate an array? I am doing this as a windows form. Have multiple text boxes that they have to fill out? Set the elements of the array to the text box values? And how to swap the contents at run time is something I am not sure of. Isn't there a Array Swap function or something? Here is what I have so far:
Note: the bottom section was a test..and it isn't working as expected.
I would like to create a group/collection/set of unfinished rows that I can later add to a datatable.I have tried to do this by creating a DataRowCollection, and then create a new row based on the table I want then add it to the collection. Doing that I get a NullReferenceException though.Using the new keyword for dr does not work.[code]......
I have a Collection, the keys are strings and the values are Collections. In the sub Collections the keys are strings and values are Singles/Floats. How would I loop through all of the data? I need to get the keys and values not just the values. I've tried this but it produces a cast error:
Im using buttons from A to Z in a toolstrip which I need to capture the text property of the button which trigger click event. I do it this way which took a long coding to mention all buttons (A-Z) click events.
vb Private Sub az_btn(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles A_ToolStripButton.Click, B_ToolStripButton.Click ... Z_ToolStripButton.Click 'shows text property of the clicked button MessageBox.Show(sender.ToString) End Sub
Is the memory from primitive data types (int, char, etc) immediately released once they leave scope, or added to garbage collection for later release?
consider:
For x as integer=0 to 1000 dim y as integer Next
If this doesn't add 1000 integers to the garbage collector for clean up later, how does it treat string objects? would this create 1000 strings to clean up later?
For x as integer=0 to 1000 dim y as string="" Next
How about structures that contain only int,string,etc... data types?
I have a project (Written in Visual Basic, using Visual Studio 2005) which has several user controls. I have had no problem setting it up where you click a button and it load a user control, but I cannot get it to remove the control that is currently open. For example The program opens on a starts screen, which has the choices, Control1, Control2, and exit. When you click Control1 button it should open up a screen to display an inventory. It does this just fine, but it does not close the main menu screen.
Here is the code for the initial startup of the project: Public Class Form4 Public Sub Form4Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim CtrlMain As New ControlMain() With CtrlMain .Location = New Point(0, 0 [Code] .....
I tried this vb Dim matches As String() = Regex.Matches(tmpFieldContent, strEmail).Cast(Of Match)().ToArray() But it didn't work, as vb says 'Cast' is not a member of System.Text.RegularExpressions.MatchCollection'.
I often use a for/next loop to cycle through a collection to find a particular member of that collection based on some criteria. This works fine in every case except one: when I want to then erase the very member of the collection I just found. For example, if I wanted to give the heave-ho to every obect in a collection class that has a member veriable Color equal to Red:
[Code]...
The problem is once the collection class member is erased it makes to loop invalid because taking out the member reduces the total count of the collection in the middle of the loop. Eventually I get a "Index is out of range" error. This circumstance has bothered me every so often; I bet more experienced programmers have a different type of loop system that works better than this when you want to erase a collection member.
I am populating a collection from some tables in the database which serves as a look-up from controls (combobox) I am using but what I want is rather than hitting the database each time can I just cache the collection and get the collection from the cache? The look-up table may or may not change all the time so I would want to have a way to validate if the cached collection is still valid or not.
I have created football (American) play creator. When the user is satisfied with a play he has created it is saved it as a file with a .play extension. What I want to do is to cycle through all the files in a folder (probably named after the team), and place each one that has the .play extension into a CList (of ClPlay) collection.I have been able to successfully load one play at a time by using this code...
Dim fs As Stream = New FileStream(diaOpenPlay.FileName, FileMode.Open) Dim bf As Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary.BinaryFormatter = New Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary.BinaryFormatter() Dim Play As CLPlay Play = CType(bf.Deserialize(fs), CLPlay)
...but that was when a specific play was selected from a load dialog box. This time I want to load all the plays in a folder and store it in a collection, and I'm not sure how to modify the above code to do that.
I've set up a test database to begin unit-testing an app that I've recently been added to. It is a 3-tier design (presentation layer, BOL and DAL) and this is my first time writing unit tests. I've decided to start at the BOL and I figure the best way is to swap out the ConnectionString (which has been passed along as a Shared String) with one that points to my new test database. However, I don't wish to change any production code. I simply wish to somehow redirect the app to the test database during unit tests.
I am trying to make a collection of controls that I can loop through. So I have this code in my form... Dim WizardFrameCollection As New Control.ControlCollection(Nothing)
I then try to add controls to the collection by I get a error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." WizardFrameCollection.Add(Me.GroupBox1) I am not sure why I am getting this error. Groupbox1 is a groupbox that is on the form.
I am using a collection to store data from a text file which I am letting the user load and I am using the .split to split and sort the data into alphabetical order and remove repeating words. However, I am having a problem removing unwanted characters from the final array. For Example, "This is the text file that I want sorted. It is random text not yet sorted"
i'm creating a game like text twist. that when i press letter a, i need to determine which picturebox contains letter a and display it to different location. that also goes to the proceeding letter a's. for example, i have a jumbled letters "aamba". in my code, it only gets the first letter a and removes it form the screen, it's nowhere to be found. and it won't recognize that i still have other letter a's i'm pretty sure about the location that i set it to be placed.here is my
(it's kind of brute force i think) ElseIf e.KeyChar = Chr(97) Then counter1 = 0[code].....
For example I only the second character in each line to be an x, while the 3nd to 10th character must be a hex digit. At the moment I use a Select Case, then check the position of the caret (using textbox.selectionstart) and see if the key being pressed is a "legal" character. Is there a better way of doing this as it slows down on large amounts of text.
This is the code I have at the moment: Select Case TextBox1.SelectionStart Case TextBox1.GetFirstCharIndexOfCurrentLine + 1
I'm trying to make my own clone of space invaders as it's been about a year since I've done any programming, and I imagine this will be a good way to get back into it. The main issue that I am having right now, is that I am basically clueless as to how I go about moving the player on a keypress. I have the code for the keyboard input correct, how to move my picturebox.
Here's my code so far (in a nutshell): Dim PlayerPositionX as integer Private Sub Form1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown Select Case e.KeyCode Case Keys.Left [Code] ..... I imagine I probably messed up very badly on this, but I'm completely lost!
I have 20 PictureBoxes named PictureBox2 through to PictureBox 21, where I need to conditionally set the positon of them. I was wondering if there is a more efficient way to set their positions than to copy the code out 20 times. This is what I have so far:
For NextPos As Integer = 2 To 21 Select Case Direction Case 1
how i could get the icons positions i made some code to get the file names and everything but wanted to know how i could get there positions! also i found some codes with google but most of them where in vb6?
