I am attempting to use the System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher class in VS 2005 (see below) but get a error message for both the ManagementObjectSearcher class and queryObj As ManagementObject - Type ManagementObjectfSearcher is not defined and Type ManagementObject is not defined. how do I use this class in Visual Studio 2005?

I have some software that does the following code to try to loop through the software (MSI's) that are installed on a machine. Originally it was passing in a package name as a parameter, but I've simplified my code to make it easier to follow. It was working before, I can't figure out why it's not now. We are thinking about changing our current database system, MS Access 2007 front end and MS SQL Server 2005 backend to using a higher level language such as Visual Basic .Net. I wonder if this is the BEST solution for data management? Currently, among others, we have two big database programs that handle more than two hundred users and it's crashed often. That's the reason we think about changing to something that can handle these database programs effectively preferably using MS technology such as .Net.

I am able to query/read the "Application" event log using System.Management classes in VB.net 2005 (win xp)But I have problem reading the "Message" / "description" of my custom event log.I am getting a System.NullReferenceException{"Object reference not set to an instance of an object."} while reading the "Message" / "Description of the event log while it is reading the others properties.Also when I use System.Diagnostics.EventLog and read all the Events on by one I am able to read the message/description of my custom event log. Why is that the System.Management classes can't read the my custom event log messages while the System.Diagnostics.EventLog classes can read them.The reason I want to use System.Management classes is bcoz I can query my custom event log where as with System.Diagnostics.EventLog classes I have to read the whole event log.

Is there any way i can run a Quest AD management shell command (not a plain powershell command) from Vb 2005 ? i mean do i need to register a snap-in within vb or register a dll or something ?for eg. i need to create a simple script to add multiple users to multiple groups then i can quickly design the front end in VB with 1 textbox for users & 1 for groups & then in background can i run a quest ad management shell command to actually add the groups (using add-qadgroupmember in this case)

May I know how to code a Table Management for a Restaurant Point of Sale system by using VB 2005? what engine or features in the VS that I should be using for this. Or if there is any place where I can find some example source?
Table Management feature in the POS should be able to have an editor to put in tables/chairs/obstacles and etc. Each bill that been open via the POS will be able to assign to the particular Table in the Table Management and to save it.

VS won't recognize this as a class, I get the "Type 'ManagementObjectSearcher' is not defined." error. Usually when this happens I just need to import something, in this case it's System.Management, however this doesn't do anything. I'm quite new to programming so it's probably some very simple mistake or misunderstanding.

I have a project that I am working on and I just recently transfered it from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine. Both machines are running VB Studio and the only thing that changed was I moved it from the XP machine to the WIndows 7 environment. I have not changed any of the code, I just transfered it and ran it to make certain nothing happened.

i am working on my A2 coursework and trying to get the log in system working. I wrote a query where i ask the databse if there is a username entered and password. if there is, it will return the username. if there isnt it will stay empty. But how do i do some kind of if statement that if there is the username returned that it will let the person log in ? im really bad at explaining things here is my code.
So basically all i want is how do i make it to see if there is anything returned or not. (im sure the query is working)I am happy to try different ideas but this is furthest i got so far with this one spend like 3 days on this..

I am using VB Express 2008, and I'm experimenting with querying WMI. I have tried the code samples from MSDN, but they do not compile. Here is an example of code that my IDE doesn't like:

In this case, SelectQuery and ManagementObjectSearcher are underlined with squiggly blue, and it doesn't know what these are. What am I missing here? Please help, because I'd love to be able to write console apps that query WMI.

I'm using System.Net.Sockets namespace for connecting to an ftp server. If a user has to login to a firewall first though, I'm not too sure what to do. The following is what I have working for logging into an ftp server without a firewall. (The Else statement) Do you know what I might add to the if statement? In the method where this conditional is, I am passing a firewall username and password.

I'm trying to write some code that can read events from another computer's event log. I haven't used WMI or System.Management all that much before this, and despite all the examples I've found on the web (there's a lot), I cannot authenticate to another machine.
No matter how I tweak the code, I always receive a System.UnauthorizedAccessException in System.Management.dll. (The message is "Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))".) I have tried connecting to two different Vista machines on the network using their local user account information.[code]...

I have two classes; one is a data class which contains routines to handle data and the second is a utility class which contains useful routines which can be used again and again. I have come across a problem. Some of my routines in the utility class use routines in my data class and now I want to use some of my utility routines in my data class. I tried this in a service and the service just would not start. After commenting out code I realised it was because I was making a declaration in the utility class for the data class and in the data class making a declaration of the utility class.
I understand that this is now causing looping but is there a different way to do what I want. If not I would need to have two copies of routines in both classes.

In the Sub New(), technically you can pass in "Nothing" for one of the parameters, or string.empty for the string. My question is how do you force the class to not create itself? Oh yes and I know you technically are not supposed to use IsNothing() in .Net however "OrElse MyPar2 Is Nothing" generates an error.

I want to control all the processes of my system. for instance, whenever i start a new process, my application has to ask me whether to allow it or not. I should have control to either pause, resume or terminate the process. for eg,if i start IE, my application should ask whether to allow the process or terminate it. if i provide "allow", the process should run, either it should terminate. Can i use "process" control to do these stuffs? Or do i need any API?
