I am trying to write a program that will use a Structure with <VBFixedString(4), VBFixedArray(10)> Public Test1() As String. Back in vb6 it was in the Type statement as Test1(10) as string *4 When I hit the line ".Test1(X) = TB1" i get the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
The file structure is fine for retrieving data from the file but when I go to write data to the elements and hit any of the fixed array elements, I get an exception error. this has got to be a sytax problem I am just not seeing.
It seems that I am not addressing the array member correctly yet the same logic pulls it properly from existing records on file.
in a Module I have the structure as follows:
Structure INVOICE <VBFixedString(6)> Public NUM As String <VBFixedString(2)> Public SYMBOL As String
I have a structure in memory which is working fine - now I need to write this entire structure to a file. The below code almost compiles, the problem is that "mstaRecordInfo" cannot be changed to a string, probably because of the Date field. I've just spent over an hour experimenting and searching the web but have gotten no closer to a solution.
Situation: I have a .csv file containing numerical values. I'd like to read the file and write the values to a 2-D array of the same form. Problem: I get all the rows of the .csv file written to a 1-D array. Looking at the code, I thinking I have the indexing for column and row positions incrementing properly but (besides experience in C#) I don't know what I'm missing. Below is the code accomplishing this.
I am attempting to gather a group of file names from a directory. I am able to do this. I tested the code by having the list populate into a listbox and all desired items were added to the list.
Here is my code: Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strPath) Dim dir1 As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.txt") Dim dFiles As IO.FileInfo ListBox.Items.Add(dFiles)
However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.
I'm reading a txt file into an array and then writing a new file one line at a time. The reason i'm using array is that i'm searching for a few lines that i want to find and replace.
However in my file I have some ascii characters but they aren't read well. I read something about System.Text.Encoding.Default but I don't know how to implement it in my code.

I am trying to print the contents of my array to a text file, but instead of just printing whats in the array it prints all indexes even if they are empty.
this is the code i am using..
Code: FileOpen(3, "garbage.txt", OpenMode.Append) Dim intCounter As Int16 For intCounter = strFirstName.GetLowerBound(0) To strFirstName.GetUpperBound(0)
In my program, I'm reading each file with the StreamReader, then prepending the header onto the original file to create a 3rd file which is the combination of the two. My problem is that the original file contains the following:
I'm reading a file into a buffer using the Space function. Then I'm using blowfish dll's to encrypt it, and want to write the encrypted data to a txt file. (I realize you can use .NET cryptography classes, but I need to use these old blowfish dll's for this project.) Anyway, when when I encrypt the data in the buffer, I can see all encrypted data, but when I write it out to a file, I get a few lines of encrypted data and the rest of plain text.
HTML ' BLOCK_SIZE is a const which = 2048 sBlock = Space(BLOCK_SIZE) Using sr As StreamReader = New StreamReader(FileToEncrypt) sBlock = sr.ReadToEnd() End Using[Code] ....
I've got my self in to a pickle here.I'm trying to do something I used to do in basic? At-least I think you can do this in Basic, you know Qbasic,What I'm trying to do is put 4-8 strings on to one line separated by a comma.Example might be:
writer.writeline (bob1, bob2, bob3, bob4) Out put might look like Test, Test2, Test3, Test4
I'm tried looking in to formatting of writeline/write, but I didn't get any where with it.
Also if this is possible- I would like to be able to read it just like :
reader.readline (Rbob1, Rbob2, Rbob3, Rbob4) If anyone cold just point me in the right direction, I'm sure I can figure it out - If not... Well I will ask another question.
I found away to read a fixed position text file, but I encounter a problem, I know which field I want to go and check, how can I jump directly to the field I need. Readfields does not helps.for instance I need to check on field 3 and 7 of the row before the next row is read.[code]is this my best approach to read a fixed position text file?
I am trying to create and initialize an array of structures of a fixed size. Each struct will be populated when a button is clicked. Here is an example of my struct:
public structure buttonStruct dim x() as Boolean dim y() as Boolean
[code]....
In my form_load function I am declaring the array of structs and:
Dim BtnStruct(15) As ButtonStruct BtnStruct(0).Initialize()
[code]....
Whenever a specific button is clicked, I am trying to collect data and store it in the respective struct and so for example, if button 1 is clicked then I will store the data associated with button 1 into BtnStruct(0). The position of the button is stored in a public variable called BtnNum. If I attempt to store information in the struct inside another function as follows, I receive an error
BtnStruct(BtnNum).x(pos - 1) = temp "btnstruct is not declared. it may not be inaccessible due to its protection level"
I am writing a 2D array to a text file.Is it digital map data, so I write each row at a time, and the format is readable by my map application.I have pasted the code below. The array is called edgegridArray. Everything else is pretty obvious. I don't know if streamwriter is the best way to do things,
Dim swr As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter("D:edgeoutput.txt") swr.WriteLine("ncols " & cols - 2) swr.WriteLine("nrows " & rows - 1)
I need to write a code that reads off a value from a another system's screen and compares with fixed value in .net 2005. The code should read all 24 lines of data from the screen and match to see if it is equal to the fixed value. What I have so far is:
Code:
Dim ObjScreen(6) As Object Private ObjOIA_Area(6) As Object Private OIA_Area As Object
[code].....
However the code is not working. and get an error. How can you select all or read line by line to get your desired result....
I am writing a program using Visual Basic 2005 in Visual studio 2005. I created a Setup project and added it to my solution using the setup wizard. I did all this on a Vista based computer. Will the install work on a Windows 98 system.
i have a 2d array that i want to sort the data from into a file so i can retreve it and put it back into the array. i need to know the better file format to use.
Basically what I want to do is open a .txt file that contains numbers and then read the numbers into an array and sort them highest to lowest but I don't know how.
I have a simple byte array: Dim TheBuffer() As Byte={0,1,2,3} and I want to store it to a TEXT file. Is there any simple way of doing this? I want to enter the text file and see the array 0,1,2,3. don't want binary format etc.
I am aware that this is a visual basic dot net post. However It was extremely simple for me to write out a file in VB6 using lines such as the following snippet
[Code]...
I want basically to export an array A (I used zero based array here) with three columns and a particular value B in fixed widths, hence the @@@@@ which means 5 spaces in to a text file defined by the FreeFNum (FreeFileNumber).
I would like to use CSV and all the other formats but some scientific programs written in FORTRAN may not support them. Anyway my file output here needs to be in this fixed width format because it will be used by proprietary software that I have no access to the source code.
I've a text file which has some data written. Records have Starting character as "#2" and Ending character as "#3" in ASCII respectively and the file includes series of records, but not written as Line by Line. The difficulty I'm having is, to how to transfer those data's into a database. The File comes a 7mb file and looping character by character then noting down the Record Starting Character and Record ending Character, and finally substring them is not feasible as it take more time and makes the computer slower. I would like to know is there any easy way to transfer them?
I'm using vb6 to read lines of txt files, using the code posted in ream.In.Code "Reading a Text file Line by Line". My question is how can I real a line with fixed column width, for example:
The objective is to read each part of the row. In Visual Studio 2010 Beta version the code I present below that is actually working but it doesn't work in VB6.
Using Reader As New Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser("C:\teste.txt")Reader.TextFieldType = Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.FieldType.FixedWidthReader.SetFieldWidths(8, 30, 25, 45, 57)
I'm parsing fixed length file with .NET 3.5 and Regex. This file is from bank. In customer name sometimes there is one characters from this set &,(),[],',"". These are characters, so far I've encountered. There can be anything else. Because of this my regex is failing. My regex is [A-Za-z0-9s-.,'""""(){}[]]{35}. Is there any wild card I can use for special chars rather than specifying individually. I also tried . but didn't work.
Sources of Assistance: [URL]..Create A Fixed Text File From SQL DB Table I am using VS2005 and would like to add script to my aspx page to Output a Fixed Text File From my SQL DB Table to a location on the network. I did this in VB6 using a FREEFILE and PADSTRING off of an Access DB table. However, I can't seem to get it right in the .NET aspx environment. Can someone assist me with this? I have added the VB6 script that is working now and the .NET aspx vb script that I'm trying to move it to.
