I'm not sure what happened. I saved my project last night and everything was in working order. I opened it this morning and it's not recognizing a lot of the System methods and functions

Even the constants like vbTab and vbCrLf aren't appearing. Any suggestions on this? I'm running VS2008 Express Edition.
I got a legacy solution targeting .net framework 2.0. When I open the properties - Compile tab of the VB projects in VS2008 or 2010, the VS always crashes. Other C# legacy projects are working.I am using windows 7 64 bit. (It's working in the xp mode.)

I am having a problem with using the SQL Server 2008 FileStream function with an Excel 2007 spreadsheet. I can store an Excel 2003 format spreadsheet and bring it back with no problem. When I bring the Excel 2007 format spreadsheet back from the DB I get a message that there are errors in opening the Spreadsheet and the Excel App asks if I want them repaired before it is displayed. I answer yes and the Spreadsheet is renedered perfectly. Could this be a FileStream problem or an Excel 2007 problem?
View 11 RepliesAnyone ever get fake compile errors and rebuild the program and then they go away? Well mine aren't going away and I can compile and run no problem. I've got something like 100 compile errors and the "run with error's" warning doesn't appear at any time and when I do run my program it runs just the way it should. However I still see like 100 errors.

I have compiled my app (Just standard windows controld, no third party) on my 64bit system to run on a 32Bit XP system. In have tried all the different settings (x86, x32, All) The error i get is: MyApp.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience. I support small local customers with VB2008 and MS Access applications (not VBA!). When I had to replace my machine, the new one came with Win7 64bit. Things failed immediately. I figured out how to compile VB for x86; but when I did that, I got a bunch of compile errors from the designer code, not my own. Typical of the errors is this one:

I am trying to get into some programming so have installed Visual Basic Express 2008 on an Vista Home Premium machine and can not get started at all.
When I open a new project (FILE>>New Project) I get some "visual Studio installed templates" Whenever I try any of them eg console application or Windows Forms application I get an error dialog box "Exception of type "System.Exception" was thrown.
I assume it is the templates that are not compatable or corrupted but I dont seem to be able to start without using the template.if it is the template or something else or how to start without using one of the installed templates?
I reinstalled my VS2008. But now everytime I open my project this warning always appear. where should i go to avoid this?

The problem is when i have spaces the colorBox doesn't open. I have a VB6 Project which I need to build in VS2008.
i tried to open vbp file in VS2008, it opened a VB Upgrade Wizard and created a new folder with in my VB6 Project Folder.
At this point I am completely stuck.
Is there anyway to build VB6 in VS2008 or Do we have any free tools to convert VB6 to VB.Net.

I have a VB.NET solution (call it S1) which produces a .vb file (say File1.vb) to be compiled and then included in another solution (S2). S2 is a console app which I want to run from a cmd prompt, not VS. My plan is to shell out from S1 to run a batch file to do the compile and then copy the .dll file, overwriting the old one in S2 (then I can run S2 in a separate operation). Suddenly, I have reached a brick wall where I cannot even edit a text label in the GUI without the following exception at compile time (debug) :

This is entirely code independent - it happens if I simply drag a new control onto the GUI without even any code behind it - Once it happens the project is hosed - even if I undo or remove what I did.I have reinstalled VB from scratch on a new computer, and same problem. I've been passed a solution that has a vb.Net 2.0 project that references to a .Net 3.5 library. The library compiles with out problem but the vb project does not. It complains of missing objects which are in the library which are correctly added in the imports. Also I see a yellow yield sign next to the reference library also when I add the reference it complains of the framework version difference. Any help is apritiated. Also I'm using VS10. Imported the projects with no errors. A colleague has this working on VS9.

The property definitely exists in the referenced class, and its access modifier is Public. What's more, if I update the reference, or just remove it and add it back, the error goes away: the intellisense shows my property -- all is fine.. that is until I try to compile again. Then the error returns. I've even restarted Visual Studio to no avail. What is going on?[UPDATE]After Will's comment, I've changed the namespace to something I am absolutely sure is unique. Now, I am getting more compiler errors of the same genre. The compiler is not recognizing some of the overloads although they are right there in intellisense. Weird!

I have a VB .dll from a previous developer that I need to modify. So I de-compiled it with no errors and then exported the code. I tried to compile the project and get two syntax errors:

The error message just says syntax error, nothing else.

A need came up for me to work on a program that resides on a web server. I can't pull up the code and I get these errors:

In addition, you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account. I have never worked on anything like this before and for right now I would just like to look at the code. I Googled and found this: You can enable these features in the Add/Remove Programs control panel. In there you wiull find a link off on the left labeled something like 'Turn Windows features on or off'. Click that and you'll get a UI for managing the IIS features that are installed.
I looked there and don't have a clue what I should check. I'm on Windows 7. What should my approach be? I don't want to just clicking things in the IIS configuration console. The attachment is what I see.
I compiled some VB6 code on my Win7 x64 machine and the result .exe will not run correctly on any other machine. VB6 code is just a new template .exe file with one button, a reference to "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.6 Library" and the following code in the button press event: Dim db Set db = New ADODB.Connection It runs correctly on my machine, but no others (even other Win7 x64 machines) (Update: I found TWO other users where it runs and one of them is Jeff Atwood!, but most machines have the same problem)

I have a VB project using VS 2008 Pro that I have been working on my Win XP SP3 PC for a while now. I am now moving to a different PC with Win 7, 32 bits. I installed VS2008 and VS2010 (also Pro) on the new PC. The source is stored on a server on our network.
