I have a settings.ini file in the root folder of my application. Where in the project settings do I set it so that when i publish the project that this file goes with. When installed the settings.ini file must sit in the same folder as the .exe file.
The photos are located in : inDebugphotos this works fine and loads images when I run the program. But after I publish, it can no more locate the files and I receive an Error:
I have finally finished an application which works really well on the PC upon which I developped it using VB 2008 Express. My problem is that when I publish it and try to install the ClickOnce output files on another PC (tried two so far, both WinXP) I get a missing files error. There is an error output saying that downloading the .exe.manifest file did not succeed. Unfortunately the error detail is confusing and does not seem to indicate exactly which files are missing. On both of the PC's that I tried I was prompted io install .net 3.5 SP1, which seemed to have been successful. The inference is that it is not a .net file that is missing.
I have VB project and I tried to use PUBLISH feature. It seems to create nicely some kind of setup program, but the setup program does not ask where to copy files (it does not seem to copy filesto target machine "PROGRAM FILES".)Is this setup program somehow different from usual installers?
NOTE: I want that app files are installed to Hard disk( from USB stick source)Is the signing recommended or necessary? My App is pretty simple, its just using access DB + printer api, should I still sign?
I made an application which controls the parallell port and i want to publish it so i can install it in other PCs.The app i made uses some libraries or .dll files which i copied manually to the C:/WINDOWS/system folder. When i use the option Build>Publish Project.. i can create an installer but it doesnt install the .dll files. My question is:¿Can i create some sort of installer that includes those files into the system folder, or should i always manually copy them?
i have a program that when you click a button it randomly gets a random line from the file and adds it to a textbox. Well when i give ppl the program it needs to have the .txt file in the same dir right.
But how would i add the file to the program itself ?
Or Add the contents of the file to the project ? maybe a class or something idk.
how to add the resources but how would I call them in the code? For example I created a picturebox then I added all the pictures I want. If I wanted to display a different one how would i do it in code?
VB.net 2008 build and publish. The application cannot publish as it cannot find the files. I down loaded the MS exe that installs it, but, I need to load them into the same folder as the install package.I looked at the folder: Microsoft SDKs/v6.0Aootstrapper/packages and transferred the folders but they do not contain the files. One of the errors on build is as follows <error> Error32The install location for prerequisites has not been set to 'component vendor's web site' and the file 'DotNetFX35dotNetFX30NetFX30a_x86.msi' in item '.NET Framework 3.5' can not be located on disk. See Help for more information.WindowsApplication1.
Is there a way I can publish *.ascx files without adding them to my project?I am trying to make my user controls in Visual Studio 2010 reusable. I have a project containing my user controls called ControlsLibrary solution directory. I copy the ascx files to the web directory upon building the project with build events.I use the command copy "$(SolutionDir)ControlLibrary*.ascx" "$(ProjectDir)controls"
This copies the *.ascx files from G:/SolutionDirectory/ControlsLibrary to C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/WebProject/controlsNow when I publish WebProject, the publish does not copy the *.ascx files from C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/WebProject/controls to my website. This is because they are not added to my project.
Is there a way I can publish *.ascx files without adding them to my project?I know there is a way to publish all files by selecting the option "All files in this project." That includes more files than I want.
What files do I need to include when I share my published VB form. I see in the "Application Files" folder there are all my version that I have published. Do I need to include all these or just the most resent with the Setup.exe?
I am using iTextSharp to add watermarks to existing PDF files & using PDF-XChange Viewer [URL] to view & print the PDF's. The problem is that the watermarks don't display in PDFXC & print out with the spacing all messed up. Is there a certain way I need to create the watermark with iTextSharp in order for it to display in PDFXC?
I have added some files that I need to be downloaded to the Application start up path. So I set Build Action as content now the files have been copied some where [code]...
When I publish the program. Is there any way to get VB to publish the text files with the program so that no errors can occur. When I install and run the published program I get a series of errors relating to text files that are not found.
My click-once app has english and spanish content. In development, it runs fine with the two resource files I have - named multilingual.en-US.resx & multilingual.es-MX.resx accordingly. When I publish it looses these resources for referencing. The files reside in the root directory for the app.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 Setup project. I need to copy one folder and the sub folders into the program files but when I tried to copy or add the folder to "Application Folder" in File System editor, I am able to add only files and not folders.
The situation: when i build my project (or publish) Visual Basic 2010 makes and exe and a couple ddl files. when i run the project with the .exe and the other files the program works perfectly.
My problem: I want to share it with friends and it is just a verry little program ( a n internet radio) so i want it to be 1 .exe with out any other instalation needed so i can easly share it to anyone who wants it. when i make an even smaller program and Debud->build it, it is only 1 exe and no instalation needed. so is there a way to make my program to 1 exe only?
Now I did a clean build, and tried to publish, and I get a lot of errors and warnings that I don't understand.

Im tryng to publish an app in VB 2008 Express, when I do I get the following error:Error1Cannot publish because a project failed to build.Error2An error occurred while signing: SignTool.exe not found.
I made app. But it doesn't work on other peoples computers. I don't want to publish it as installer App because it doesn't look good and people can't choose which folder it will install to. Is here way to copy My Exe file and all DLLs to one folder so it works for everyone?
I've seen some similar threads on here but no resolution. I have an app written with VB Express 2008 which uses SQL Compact Edition 3.5, the DB that comes shipped with VB Express 2008.
When I publish, I can run the app on my machine (development machine).
When I try and install on another machine, it is giving this error:
object: sql sever compact ADO.NET Data Provider Method: Void ProcessResults(Int32)
I have two slightly different versions of my VB applications that I would like to publish simultaneously. The differences are minimal and mostly include GUI and some internal logic. Incorporating changes into a single application is not an option right now.
I tried publishing and installing them separately but the latest installer always overwrites whatever has already been installed. For example, if I install App v1, then App v2, only App v2 will be visible. If App v1 is installed after App v2, only App v1 will be visible. What I want to have is to have them both installed. I am using Visual Studio 2008.
I got the problem to play flash file in my vb.net application.I am using .net 2008 express to publish my window application.I am able to play it when it has a actual .swf location. e.g. "C:Documents and SettingsmypcDesktopmysql"
But I want to put the .swf file together when it publish.when I copy this to other computer , they can have this flash file, the loction to load will become>>ApplicationDeployment.CurrentDeployment.DataDirectory & "Resourcesfirework3.swf".
the file is in Resources forlder but the application is not able to play, with no error popup
I am new in 2008 and I have a very simple question. I have made a program in vb net that load one ini file and make some things. It is possible to include this ini file when I make publish my program? I want this ini file to copied when I make a setup my program.
i have created an application on my windows vista 64-bit computer. I need to be able to install the application on other computers. I copied over the setup.exe file as well as the other files that the publish wizard created onto my flash drive. I then put my flash drive onto a windows xp computer and copied over the install files. I ran setup.exe, it said it was installing .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. The progress bar didn't move for an hour. I canceled that and tried to just run the manifest. It prompted to 'run' it etc... i did that and it said the .NET Framework that i canceled was required.
When i built the application ClickOnce was not enabled, the second time i did it ClickOnce was enabled. I then started to play around with the files that were required. What is wrong? I need to be able to install this application on other computers but mine. It works perfectly on my vista but wont even install on the xp. Do you think i am just doing something wrong as i publish/build it?
i'm using clickonce on vista. i have vb.net 2008 express. i wanted to have my app available for install via a web page and also be able to check for updates. i can't seem to get frontpage server extensions working properly. is there another way to do this?
1) Cannot publish because a project failed to build.
2) An error occurred while signing: SignTool.exe not found.
Regarding #1, I can manually build and rebuild the application without error. I only get this error when I try to Publish.
Regarding #2, I looked in my SDKv3.5Bin directory and indeed the signtool was not there. In fact I only had 3 files (genasm.exe, genasm.exe.config, and hidpi.res). I copied the signtool.exe from the Visual Studio 2005, (file dated 10/26/2006), but I still get the same error saying it can not find the file.
I have a bunch of images loaded in as resources then i added a mediaplayer.resx file so i could keep the images separate... only now i have just discovered it doesnt? It still puts all images together, so i cant add multiple images with the same name? (needs to be the same name - its a filename)
how to add folders and images right into the project explorer. How do I then reference the images? are they just like files? so it would be app pathfolderimage.png ? WIll it add to the distibution like this?
