I've seen some similar threads on here but no resolution. I have an app written with VB Express 2008 which uses SQL Compact Edition 3.5, the DB that comes shipped with VB Express 2008.
When I publish, I can run the app on my machine (development machine).
When I try and install on another machine, it is giving this error:

View 1 RepliesI've developed a small application using VB 2008 express and I am trying to deploy it for the first time.I have done this using the options with VB 2008 express and installed onto another PC. I find it has installed using what is termed a user instance which I understand comes with some limitations.I want the option for the application and data base to be multi user in the future. I want to be able to connect to it from Business intelligence for reporting purposes (there is no report viewer control in VB2008 express) and ideally I would like to be able to back it up using SSMS.Does anyone know what the options for deployement are and how to deploy using a "traditional" instance rather than a "user" instance?
View 1 Repliesim using vb express 2008 and have just created an application. i am also using windows xp sp2. when i build the application and it creates the .exe file i can only run the .exe successfully on my own system. when i try and send it to other xp systems, or vista it doesnt work!im guessing it needs specific files to run the .exe on other platforms. someone mentioned that there might be an option in vb express to package up the program so it can be installed and used on other pcs ?

View 1 RepliesIt's probably just a case of me not looking in the right place or not seeing the obvious, but does anyone know if a machine with just version 2.0 of the .NET Framework should be able to run a VB.NET Express application which accesses a SQL Server Express database file? Or is there an additional requirement for a non-development machine to have some kind of SQL Server Express runtime component in addition to the 2.0 Framework?It seems to be counterintuitive to expect that a VB.NET application would be able to access any kind of SQL Server data without having some kind of SQL Server host component (Express or otherwise) installed. But then again, it seems just as counterintuitive that Microsoft would require the download and installation of the new framework as well as a separate database runtime in order for the average user to run an application with accesses a local SQL Server Express database.To me, it runs contrary to the whole concept of XCopy deployment to require more than just the application's files and .NET Framework for an application to run properly. But nothing I've read so far explicitly indicates that a user would require anything more than the app files and the framework to run an application which accesses SQL Server Express data. But...I can't get any VB Express applications which uses a SQL Server Express databases to run on any machine that doesn't have SQL Server Express installed.What am I missing?(Apologies if this isn't the right group to post this in.
View 3 RepliesI've built a couple of Apps successfully, but having published them to a Network Folder, Non-Admin Users can't install them themselves because the Install attempts to create an Entry in the Start Menu. There may be other Security issues (I need 4 of the permissions included if I publish it as a Partial Trust Applications, which I think affect this) after this point that I'm not aware of, but yeah, it fails when trying to create a Start Menu item -
+ Access to the path 'C:Documents and SettingsJameOStart MenuProgramsMynas' is denied.
I think excluding the right is just part of the SOE, but is there some way I can create this and have it NOT create a Start Menu item, haven't been able to find any?
ive created a program in VB 2008 and i cant remember how to publish it in such a way that it includes the database that the program uses. At the moment when i publish it, it only works on my system because i have the database on my PC, if i delete the database from my pc the program messes up because it doesnt have a copy of the database in its program resources etc.how do i publish the program so that it includes a copy of the database that it needs to function?
View 6 RepliesI'm having some trouble sharing my application to other PC users. I have tried to Build my application and Publish my application into a folder, zip it, and put it on my website for people to download, but when they try to run the setup file it gives an error message saying they need to download "Mysql.Data V 6.4.4.0", which makes sense seeing how I have a resource that uses this. Do I need to use a different method to pack my application or what? I don't quite understand how I can incorporate this into the files so the end-user doesn't need to do any other downloading than my file.

I would at least like to include a "Terms of Use" document the user must agree to before installing the program. I have dovnloaded and installed web developer, c# and vs 2008. Do any of these include a professional installer? If not are there any free installer packages available? I am 72 and live on a limited budget so I cannot aford an expensive package for one program.

As the title says, I have a program written in VB.net 2010. When I use the publish feature it creates a manifest and setup file that install the program nicely on another PC, but I think the security settings are somehow wrong because it sits there for ninety seconds upon launch. The program works fine on the computer that built it. There is no CPU usage while it is sitting around.

View 2 RepliesI have created a resource directory loaded with 10 mp3 files in it and added it to the resources tab. The problem I am having is when the program is compiled and installed, it does not add the resource directory to the hard drive. I know that resources can be added into the applications files in the publish tab but cannot seem to figure out how to get it listed or added in there.I also took each mp3 and set the build action to Embedded Resource... That didnt help much though.The resource directory i want to include in the deployement is in my bin/debug/resources in the solution explorer.

It uses Word Library functionality to access several .docx and .dotx files.Everything works in the development environment. However, after deployment, my application can't find any of the Word document files. When I install the application, the database is deployed with read only rights causing errors in the program. Of course, I manually change the rights to Full Control and the application works great. How do I get the database to deploy with Full Control?

I can Add the event to the calendar I have the necessary items on my form linked to my table and I can save them to my table:

But I cant keep the event displayed on my calendar when I close it and open it again.
I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.
Now I did a clean build, and tried to publish, and I get a lot of errors and warnings that I don't understand.

Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.
