I am working on a windows application in vb.net 2005 and it needs to connect to the SQL Server database. In this example I testing if the connection is able to open properly:
[Code]...
Is it something dealing with the permissions set with the database server or something? I am new at .NET programming and I have been spinning my wheels on this for the past couple of days and I am at a loss. From what I research, this error should only occur if I was creating a web program, but I am not. It is a windows application.

I have 1 exe and 1 dll. The dll (ClassLibrary1) file is located in the root of a website. In the dll I have a UserControl that populates with data its controls, from a database that is on a website too. The end user gets the exe file. This exe loads the dll and displays the UserControl1 on the form. This is how i load the control from inside the dll (located on the web site), on my form (exe file).
Private _dll As String = "http://www.site.com/ClassLibrary1.dll"
Private _class As String = "ClassLibrary1.UserControl1"
Private WithEvents cont As UserControl
[code]....
The error is "Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed."Note that if i dont load the usercontrol from the web and instead have it locally, there is no problem. The data are fetched from the database (db is on the web) with no problem. The problem seems to be that the loaded assembly from the web (the usercontrol1 inside the dll) has no permission to access anything. I am not trying to access stuff from the user's pc (like file IO), but access a database located on a web server.

the error code points to a Stack-Overflow I can not pin the offending code down because the software works faultlessly on some computers after deployment but on others the crash occurs when a Gantt chart gets redrawn after changing activity dates. All the computers are situated on the same LAN and connect to the same SQL server 2008 database. The application has been developed with Visual Studio 2008.
I used the same install disk on all the computers and they are all using the same date/time format. The crashes occur on both 32 - and 64 bit machines.
The error message:
Stopped working
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Pfisterer Project Manager.exe

It is possible to catch an exception and throw a new exception which wraps the first exception as an inner exception: [URL] Also, if I call a function and it throws a certain error, but I catch it, will the calling code's catch handler execute? If so, and it is of a higher exception type, is this not wrapping the exception? eg I can throw exception ex of type IndexOutOfRange, log it but rethrow, catch a higher up exception and do something, or I can throw a new exception and wrap an inner exception like:

I've been using it for three days, and tried to make my own application. Everything was going okay, it ran fine in the debugger and everything worked, so I assumed there would be no problems. But then when I went to run it from the exe in the folder, it shows me this:
Quote:
System.Threading.ThreadStateException: Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your Main function has STAThreadAttribute marked on it.
at System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowserBase.OnHandleCreated(EventArgs e)
[CODE]............
I copied what I think to be the most important part of it. I've been searching around, and it says to do something with the main method, but I have no idea what that means.

But the problem is : When an user try to connect to the second server without be "ADMIN", (So he's a simple user) the application runs but when it try to connect oracle an exception occurs (in the end of this message I put it).All folders of my application and oracle database have all permisions to all. I want to define a global exception handler for unhandled exceptions in my console application. In asp.net, one can define one in global.asax, and in windows applications /services, one can define as below
AppDomain currentDomain = AppDomain.CurrentDomain;
currentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(MyExceptionHandler);
But how can I define a global exception handler for a console application ?currentDomain seems not to work (.NET 2.0) ?

See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. [Code]. When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box. What is this Error about, can anyone explain please?

I have an application that starts one of two external CAD applications depending upon the extension of a file in a ListView. I have been able to start up the application to view the file selected without a problem. I also have a seperate print click event for printing the file that opens the viewer application in the background and prints the file. This works perfectly for one of the CAD viewers but when I select a file that requires the other viewer application to print I get a Win32 exception and an error message stating that the file is not associated with any application and it cannot be opened. This of course is rediculous as it opens fine in the "View File" click event that opens the viewer to check the drawing.
One rather strange observation is that the CAD viewer that does print the associated file will launch the other CAD viewer application (that is associated with the other file extensions) when the "View" click event is handled even though I had not incuded the code to execute the process to start the viewer for that type of file. I realize this rather convoluted and may lie in the ProcessStartInfo arguments that I pass to the application.
Here's a code snippet:
Private Sub PrintFinGoods_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PrintFinGoods.Click
Dim message As String = "No application is associated with file"
Dim source_exception As New Exception
[code]....

In the process of finnishing up the application. Some NOT all beta testers have had the same problem.
An error box that states: Unhandled exceptions has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignor this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the applicatiob will close immediatly.
An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for detailes. The error is: Could not load file or assembly "Microsoft VisualBasic PowerPacks vs, Version = 9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
The details displays this: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
Exception Text
CODE:
JIT Debugging
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. The application must also be compiled with debugging enabled.
For example:
CODE:
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.
This does not happen on all the forms within the app, just some. This happens on some systems running XP and the app runs fine on others running XP. So foar it has run on all systems running Vista. It happens some of the time on Windows 7

I have a Windows Form application that has a global error handler to display unexpected errors.
Namespace My
Class MyApplication
Delegate Sub ProcessParametersDelegate(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal args() As String)
[code]....
1) for the same deployed code, I SOMETIMES get line number in the displayed StackTrace error message and sometimes do not, even when the error message includes source code that I have written rather than a referenced binary. The project is compiled with a DEBUG configuration.
2) The application strangely minimizes to the tray when the error occurs (I thin it is unlikely that anyone can diagnose this issue w/o my more code posted, but I'll mention it anyways)
3) When I try to intentionally raise an error by, for example, dividing by zero hoping to test by global error handler, I get a dialog error message from the interactive debugger rather than jumping into my global error handler (which i want to debug because there is more to it than I posted.) Do you have any idea how to triggerand force teh execution of the global event handler?
