I am using VS/VB 08 together with access 07 for my project. I am trying to fill my datagridview using a custom SQL query where the "where" criteria is altered to accept the column name from the selection of the user. When a user clicks on a column in the datagrid I want that column to be represented in the query. This is what I have but is not working. Is this possible by the way?

I have a project I have a dataset that contains tables In the dataset designer, each table has a defaiult FILL command set. I have draged and droped my table as a grid onto my form VB automatically sets up the table adapter, and binding source to make it all work.
in my code, is placed in the form load routine, a tableadapter.fill(dataset.datatable)
Here is my dilemma. The data in my table may have 100's of thousands or rows.
I have presented the user with a front end that allows for filterring and selecting based on several columns. reguardless of how many rows the result set contains, there will always be the same columns in the dataset.
Because there are so many combinations of select query, i do not want to make 20 or 30 custom fillby's in the dataset. I want to make an addhoc select query and have the binding source and table adapters work as expected. I have created a query called "FillByCustom" in the dataset designer attached to the DataTable Adapter section.
My question is this.
If i build a select query that returns the desired rows, how do i place it into the adapter in place of the FILLBYCUSTOM select command, such that it all works as expected?
GOAL: Bind nested ListViews to LINQ generated iQueryable of anonymous type. I want to use LINQ because you can use GroupBy and bind the nested ListView to the 'it' keyword.
SETUP: I have groups of sets of conditions. Each set of conditions is stored in the BillingCodes table. Each group of BillingCodes is stored in the BillingGroups table.
I have a custom object that stores the ID, Name, and NumCodes for each BillingGroup that the user has chosen.I have a collection of these objects called GroupsList that has a list of the groups that the user has chosen.
Problem 1: I can iterate through GroupsList and grab all the IDs. How do I translate the SQL 'WHERE ID IN(a string of comma delineated IDs)' for LINQ to SQL? Is that the best way to do that?
Problem 2: Once I have the list of BillingGroups I need to iterate through each group. For each group, I need to iterate through the BillingCodes. For each BillingCode I need to generate a WHERE clause that has all of the conditions in the BillingCode. I propose something like so:

Problem 3: Here's the part where I don't have a clue. I need to dynamically create a query in LINQ to SQL. Keep in mind that I don't know how many groups there'll be or how many codes are in each group.

The popup window comes by pressing F4 or ALT+DOWN keys in my datagrid which is getting closed if I press the down arrow for the first time, after showing the first value in the combo box as selected. Next time onwards, if I press the F4 key and down arrow, I can move to any item in the popup window and select the item using keyboard and in that case, the popup window is not getting closed till I press the ENTER key or selection using the Mouse. Is there any specific reason for this behaviour or something is missing in my code part? [code]...

I am trying to display some of the properties of the list within a combobox column for the dgv but what i end up with is an identical combobox for each row which contains all the info for the entire list of items. here is the relevent code which constucts the combobox column.

I have looked at using a parent and child form but it seems somewhat difficult to pass data between forms. I have also looked at custom dialog boxes but it seems like there would be an easier way? Is there a way that a form or similar box could pop up when a button on form1 was pressed and then the user could make the needed selections and then click ok on form 2. This would then save the selections to some global variable that could be accessed by form1 after form 2 has been closed?

I have a dll application that has its own app.config file associated with it.It has custom sectiongroups, sections, element collections, etc.The application name is WireShopAutomation.dll, so the built config ends up as WireShopAutomation.dll.config.The problem is that I seem to be unable to open the section group.The error message is:"Could not load type 'WireShopAutomation.cfgSectionGroup_WireShopMain' from assembly 'WireShop Automation'"It seems to find the config file, but not the class handler for the section group and possibly the assembly itself.The class handler for this is in the same project as the application itself.[code]I should've also indicated that I can see the properties of configuration file in the Config object. In fact, I can even see the WireShopAutomation_Main section group. However, it can't seem to access it.

yes these are all things capable with the traditional windows form but i want something more my style. Also im creating a orb like thing in the top left and a minimize/maximize/close button at the top right. I was going to use just images...is this the best way or can i create better graphics in wpf or something like that? Some more things that i would like but dont nessarly need would be the capablity to make my form with the clear vista aero glass instead of a single static color...i dont know mutch about this but is there an easy way to extend the vista aero glass theme across forms and if so what would that look like on xp machines.
I would like to generate some custom dialog boxes that I can call from anywhere in my project.
The easiest example I can give is of a form that waits for two numbers to be entered then returns their sum. I want to call it like a function ie. sum = add_two_numbers( " Enter the numbers you want to add then click add)This is not what I actually want to do, that is far more complex, this just a simple way to explain what I want to do. If I can do this I can do what I really want.
Essentially I want forms that will accept some input, process it and return a string. A bit like an input inputbox, an openfiledialog box or a fontdialog box. I also need to pass strings to it.I can do it if I use a function declared in a module which calls the form and then returns the value once it is calculated but isn't there a simpler more elegant method?
Is this possible? Must be surely but I've tried and come up short. I've created a very basic class (person) with 2 public properties, forename, surname. My user control is databound to this class and has 2 textboxes to store the properties.
I've built the control and can add the user control to a windows form but how can I add to a new user control (Staff) which will show my 2 existing textboxes and I can add dateJoined datepicker also??
