I am writing a program and I need a way for the user to input information into a pop up screen, i.e. may be up to 10 settings for the program. I have looked at using a parent and child form but it seems somewhat difficult to pass data between forms. I have also looked at custom dialog boxes but it seems like there would be an easier way? Is there a way that a form or similar box could pop up when a button on form1 was pressed and then the user could make the needed selections and then click ok on form 2. This would then save the selections to some global variable that could be accessed by form1 after form 2 has been closed?
It's been a while since I last posted something, but this attracted my attention. Since many of my programs share the same type of code, I decided to dump it all in a class library for other programs to use.
Now I have a problem, Windows Forms in a class library can't be displayed. There is no "Show(Dialog)" command, only some for event handling. All properties are gone as well. The only way I managed to display a form is by making it as a new variable: 'Dim f as windows.forms.form
But this won't work because of the enormous amount of handlers added to the original.
How can I show my (TextureBrowse in my case) Dialog so other programs can use it?
I'm creating an stock management application. At times I want to be able to search for a customer, location, or institution. I know how to do all of this, but what I really nee dot figure out is:How do I create/design a function that calls a form and has the user query information and then return that query's data, preferable datatable. Now, I've created the form that does all this and I have the dataTable but now I want to have a function that can call this "query form" and return that data.I was thinking I have to do something with multi-threading but maybe I'm just looking over something obvious. The best analogy of what I want to do is to create a custom dialog box, but obviously instead of returning a simple integer I'd be returning a dataTable.
I'm trying to create a installation setup for my VB.net application. I need to insert a custom action while setup is running. So I add a Checkbox Dialog box to my setup. And I add a dll to the setup installation to capture Before Install and After Install events. Those are works fine. But I cannot access my check box value in those events. [code]
I'm having a bit of trouble with my project here... and Google isn't helping very much. To put it briefly, I'm currently making a sticky note program (one fairly similar to Sticky Notes, for those of you familiar with Windows Vista or 7). It's relatively simple, as the "note" itself is basically a glorified Rich Text Box.
My problem is this: I obviously want to allow some for some customization with the font, however I don't want to use a standard full-on Dialog Box. So I designed a small form with 2 Combo Boxes--one for font and the other for size--and 2 buttons, "OK" and "Cancel". What I'm attempting to do is program this form (named dlgFont) to more or less be recognized as a Font Dialog Box. I've got some of it figured out I think, but I can't seem to put the pieces together in a way that actually works. In the code for my main form, I have this within the Class... stuff:
Friend WithEvents dlgFont As System.Windows.Forms.FontDialog
As for the Command Button that pulls up the dialog box itself, well, it's actually a Context Menu Strip Item... I'm not really sure what to put. So far I've only tried this:
dlgFont.ShowDialog
And for the Apply event, I've got the generic stuff:
Private Sub dlgFont_Apply(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles dlgFont.Apply If dlgFont.ShowDialog = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then Me.Font = dlgFont.Font End If End Sub
That's all I have for the main form. This is what dlgFont looks like: 'A limited-ability font dialog box.
Lets say i'm making a new dialog. I don't want to expose the properties of the form to code elsewhere, only specific ones I define. I tried making the form Protected (including the Designer generated code) and putting it in another class, but then I can't figure out how to access the form from my code. Am I going about this completely the wrong way, or what?
I'm trying to show my own dialog (windows form) from a windows service, unfortunatly this is not possible unless I can somehow make it work like a MessageBox and pass it the MessageBoxOptions.ServiceNotification.
Using the standard MessageBox won't work as I actually don't expect it to be seen by users most of the times and therefore was wanting to use my own form that has a countdown timer to close itself if no user interaction occurs within a given timeframe. The Form.Show doesn't take the MessageBoxOptions, but is there a way to make it accept these?
i am creating my own message box. My msgbox contains 4 button , so i want to return an integer value as the button no. that was selected (i.e return 1 for button 1, 2 for btn 2...)i tried me.dialogresult=1 , but its not working
How do I get at and invoke the properties dialog supplied by the manufactured? I have search this many times and found that most of the posts contain solutions that the original poster claims don't work The standard PrintProperties class does not handle a lot of printers who have specifictsks, eg a printer designed to pint on the face odf CD/DVD. I have found examples of how do this in VB6, but every examply I find for the versions of VB Basic after thet have comments that the solution provided did not persist the user chnges. Bow, come on, there has to be a way of displaying and persisting the user choises the dialog bog provided by the printer manufacturer!Terry
I have a simple desktop application that uses a .NET setup project (.msi file) to perform the installation. On the first installation, everything proceeds in a timely fashion with good feedback for the user. The problem occurs when the user is installing the latest version of the application over an old version on their machine. There is an unacceptably long delay of about 60 to 180 seconds from the time the installer's 'Welcome' dialog [It's not the Welcome dialog, I've removed that from the Start section of the setup project and replaced it with a CheckBox dialog to ask if the user wants a shortcut on the desktop] disappears until the 'Progress' dialog appears. The user sees minute(s) of blank screen and thinks the install has stopped or failed.
In the setup project properties, I've got the 'DetectNewerInstalledVersion' and 'RemovePreviousVersions' properties set to true. So, I believe that while nothing appears to be happening, the installer is actually removing the old version. The 'Progress' dialog does not appear until the new version begins installation.I've been trying to either:
a) Get the 'Progress' dialog to display immediately after the 'Install Icon' dialog disappears
b) Show another dialog while the Uninstall is running to let the user know that the setup is still running and everything is OK.
I have been unsuccessful with both methods. I'm using VS 2008 SP1?
Is there a way to launch a Modeless Dialog that stays active even when a Modal Dialog is launched? Can I put the Modeless Dialog in a seperate Thread or something like that?
I often use the process of displaying a dialog from a form, with the dialog user input then used to update the main form without any problem. In a new scenerio I launch the main application screen, I then show a login dialog ontop of the main app screen and can launch another dialog from the login if a new user is required. The plan is to update the login dialog (updating a combobox to reflect the addition of a new user) from the new user dialog.
See code below :-
'Update login forms user list as new user added successfully frmRoomBookingLogin.cboLogin.DataSource = Nothing frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text = "Updating password from dialog" MessageBox.Show("The password text is " & frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text)
[code]....
The messagebox implies the dialog has been updated yet the text does not change. Is it possible to update the dialog when using a setup such as Form -> dialog -> dialog? I'm intrigued as why the dialog does not reflect changes. I have never refreshed/repainted the dialog as never required to in my other examples when updating a form from a dialog and never encountered a problem when using a two tier form setup.
I have an assignment due this week in which I have to make a app that has 5 buttons and a picture box. When each button is clicked it has to show the corresponding picture in the picture box, the fifth button closes the app.
I have the whole form set up the way it should be, but I have no idea how to write the code to make the buttons display the images and close the app.I have the images in a folder within the project folders.
I have yet to be able to find one, the one I found should how to do it using a file opener dialog and a folder browser dialog but that is not what I think my prof wants us to do, as that is more for a picture viewer app that lets the user choose the file of the image they want ot view.
All i want is for the buttons to be linked to specific photos that are part of the application itself and have them open.
Is there a way to launch a Modeless Dialog that stays active even when a Modal Dialog is launched? Can I put the Modeless Dialog in a seperate Thread or something like that?
I Am trying to connect to the database(in Sql Server 2008) through my vb.net desktop application, perform a backup, and then allow the user to save the backup file to their computer Using Save Dialog box in vb.net 2008.
I have a Dialog that is basically a confirmation dialog on some SQL statements. After the dialog I have an if statement: If frmRelease.ShowDialog() <> Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel then.My buttons are set as DialogResult = OK and DialogResult = Cancel respectively on the dialog form.
For some reason, sometimes my button set to DialogResult = OK is returning me a DialogResult.Cancel, and causing me to skip a block of cleanup code.
I have built a Dialog which contains a TreeView. Now, when I invoke this Dialog, I need passing a value based on which a node of the TreeView will be selected. I need help in knowing how do I pass a value to the Dialog?
I'm calling one program from another using the shell command. When I call the second program it loads a file and then displays the details on the screen. But when it runs nothing appears to happen and it is only when the file is loaded that anything is displayed. One of the first things that happens is a Resize, so I expect the dialog box to be displayed, I have added a refresh at the start but the dialog box is still not displayed untill the file is loaded. How can I make the program display the dialog box at the start to show something is happening?
A similar request made the other day was for the color dialog to change at run time using the method below.can you show me where the difference is and of course how to resolve the problem as I want the user to be able to change the fonts.
I found this code online to click a pop up OK dialog button. It's a lot of code but it works. I tried putting this code in a module or another form so I can use it with other programs. I get an error every time. This line is causing the problem.
I keep getting a error that says Access to the path 'C:..FolderIChoose' is denied. I wanted to extract that directory and put it in a text box i have in my program. Is there a setting i need to change on the Folder Dialog properties area?
browseFolder Private Sub Browse_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Browse.Click Dim FileBrowser As StreamReader
I'm having trouble with MDI child and a dialog form. The problem details are listed below:
1. One MDI Parent form (Form1) with a button on it (Button1).
2. One Child form of Form1 (name = Form2) with a button (Button2) and a textbox (text_box1).
3. Another form in the project (not child of Form1 and not MDI Parent) with name Form3. This form has also a button on it (Button3).
The application behaviour is as follows: the application starts with Form1. Clicking the Button1 will show Form2. Form2 correctly opened as a MDI child. Clicking the Button2 on the Form2 will show Form3 as dialog (Form3.ShowDialog() ). Clicking the Button3 on the Form3 need to do the magical thing - to set/change the text in the Form2's text_box1.
Tried various examples from this forum. Also followed a lot of examples from net. Nothing works. Tried to create a writable property in the Form2 class but calling it from the Form3 does nothing.
I tried to access the MDIchildren(ss) while ss loops in MDIchildrens array but I don't know how to access the label control inside the Form2 using this technique. Successfully changed the Form2 caption but no controls are available in VB intellisense - practically correct because VB don't know which form from array I'm referring to.
I've made a program which runs smoothly on XP and also on Windows 7.But after installing it on a windows 7 machine, windows 7 immediatly shows another dialog box of the program compatibility assistent stating:(translating from Dutch, so forgive any mis-translations )
'This program may not have been installed correctly. If this program is not correctly installed, you can try to reinstall the program with compatible configuration of this version of windows.'You than have the option to reinstall the program with the advised compatible settings (?) or choose 'this program is correctly installed'.
If you choose 'reinstall with adviced compatible settings', windows 7 installs the program with 'windows XP, SP2' settings. My program uses only an access database and an internet connetion. Nothing fancy, exotic, registry items or something else.
For writing permission on the database (also win.7), I install the program in 'all users/app data', and not in 'Program Files'. I can't find anything usefull on google,
i got this error in my code when the program runs i dont know what am i doing wrong Datagridview Default Error Dialog The Following exception ocurred in the datagridview System.InvalidOperationException: Binding Source cannot be its own data source.
I'm using a DLL in vb.net 2005, and this dll show a messagebox with OK option. I would like to close this Messagebox by code.
I was investigating to use SetWindowsHookEx, but I can not detect it. Is it possible to don't show any dialog, or detect the dialog using the dll name?
