Neither code is firing.The CausesValidatition of the txtMenuOwnIP is set to true.I can enter stuff into that Textbox and leave it using the Mouse or simply piush Enter, but the posted code won't get fired (used a Breakpoint in both subs). There are no other event routines for this command used.

So rather than having a sub routine to validate every groupbox, i was wanting to have just the one keypress event that handles the textbox entries, and depending on the textbox calls a specific validation routine.[code]
View 2 RepliesIs there anyway to check if a Control has been validated yet?I have some code that I want to run when the Selected of a TabControl fires off.The thing is, that I have TabPages added to the TabControl at the beginning of runtime, which then triggers the Selected event before the control is completely existent, which means the Sub I have that also happens to reference the control during that event errors out because there is technically not an instance of the control completely finished building so it says I don't have a correct reference set to that object.So basically, I want to be able to check in the Sub if the control has been Validated, or maybe even created or whatever is going on.

The problem is when i first open my application and i enter my code it goes red, but when i re-enter the code in textbox 1 it works fine, how can i make it work without re-typing?
The problem is that if you never enter anything into a cell for a new row then that cell is never validated. This is a problem because I have columns that should not be null. I am doing the check in the row level validation and storing the information about which cells are empty that should not be empty. The row level validation works fine and the row level validation error indicator goes on,(red exclamation mark at the beginning of the row) but I also need a visual indicator on the individual cells that are in error.
I am thinking that setting the HasError property for the cells that are in error should cause them to display n error style (the default red border). Is there a way to this this either from XAML (perferably) or from code?Alternatively I could cause those cells to re-validate when the row editing is finished. Does anyone know how to do this?
I have a form with a binding navigator on it. It also has a DGV and text boxes bound by the binding navigator. Everything works fine. If you scroll through the row's in the binding navigator it updates the DGV and text boxes at the same time. And also if you click any row in the DGV it automatically updates the text boxes.
Ideally I want to impletment some validation to make sure the users are not only filling in all the required text boxes but also that the data entered is correct.
I have some validation setup in SQL, for example not allowing nulls on particular columns but I really need to be more extensive in the validation than that.
Ideally I need some way of validating the current row selected whether it's an existing row or a new one, before moving to the next row or before save is clicked on the binding navigator. Firstly because the SQL validation messages are not very good, secondly because whilst the data may meet SQL's requirments, it may not be right. For example SQL might accept 12:00 as a time but the program specification requires the user to input within a certain time frame, i.e. 14:00 - 16:00.
Finally, I feel like the validation needs to be handled immediatly on the record that is displayed as ultimatley, the way the form is setup, allows the user to add and amend more than one record at once and if the validation was handled on 4 or 5 different rows then it would bring another problem of having to bring each row up to correct. Therefore I think the best aproach is to handle each row before allowing the user to move onto another one.
When I click the Add button to save new form information to the database the form doesn't show the new information unless I close and re-load the form.

Is there a way to prevent the form closing event from executing if validation fails on a control? If validation on a control fails this stops the form from closing, but the closing event still executes. Scenario is user has focus in a text box, tries to close the form. Validation fails, but closing event is fired. I'm not sure how I can abort that event.

View 34 RepliesI am trying to close my application and I have coded on the form closing, form closed events to call an exit form which asks the user for confirmation to exit or not. All works fine. When I press the X button on the winform things act different. On the main form where I press the X btn I store some user ID data that I use throughout the app. If I press cancel on the exit form that data is lost from the main form and cannot be used afterwards. So if the user pressed by mistake the X btn and then presses cancel on the exit form the application loses some stored data and many functions stop working.

The user controls are docked in the form so no actual space from the form is available to the user.

when you enter the form, the form opacity is set to 1. And when left, the form opacity is set to 0.7 .However, what happens right now is obviously that when the user changes the mouse position from one user control to another, the form opacity flickers (turns to 0.7 and back to 1 really fast).

Ok, so I have created an Access database, and everything is working fine (much to my amazement) except for one thing. I want the database "update" button to validate the input before applying it to the dataset, and if there is an error (empty field) I want it to pop a message and highlight the text box in question where the error occured (there are 7 textboxes).
How precisely do I go about doing that?

I have a Dataset Lets call it Dataset1. I have 1 table in this dataset created in designer called settings. I want to be able to declare the intial dataset in one form as a global variable and make a copy of it in another form. However I don't want to fill it until after I have made the copy except that it is not working.[code]The problem is the Dt returns the same amount of columns and the exact column names that I have in the settings datatable. When I do Dt.ReadXml("Myxmlfile") I don't get any rows populated yet the columns are in the xml file and in the dt copy of the datable.

If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table.
