VS 2008 Cannot Import Data Into Dataset Using ReadXML

Jul 18, 2011

I have a Dataset Lets call it Dataset1. I have 1 table in this dataset created in designer called settings. I want to be able to declare the intial dataset in one form as a global variable and make a copy of it in another form. However I don't want to fill it until after I have made the copy except that it is not working.[code]The problem is the Dt returns the same amount of columns and the exact column names that I have in the settings datatable. When I do Dt.ReadXml("Myxmlfile") I don't get any rows populated yet the columns are in the xml file and in the dt copy of the datable.

System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet DataSet)

May 14, 2012

I have tried everything I can to get beyond this error which shows below as <<<<< error here. It is trying to fill a dataset from a data adapter. If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table. IS there something wrong with the Imports section: Imports System

Detect Data Changes In A Dataset On Runtime Program And SQL Express 2008?

Dec 14, 2009

I have designed an application for a company which has 5 client computers that read and write data to an sql2008 instance on a server.I would like to know the way to detect a change in a table whithout having to refill the table adapter.Let's say that all the client applications have a datagridview on the main form which binds to a table on the database lets say Members table (members binding source)Whenever a client makes a change to that table (lets say that it updates the Last name of a member) i would like the rest of the clients to detect that update and as a result ,update the specific row or cell in the datagridview.Is there some kind of event that is raised?

VS 2008 Dataset - Form Validation And Validated Events To Validate The Data

Mar 22, 2012

I have an application has a data entry form, and currently I'm using the form validation and validated events to validate the data - along with an error provider. I've read that this logic should be placed in the Dataset rather than the form. To that end, i've started exploring how to do that.

VS 2008 ListView - How To Find Out Data Row Height

Mar 21, 2010

My task for the moment is just to find out what the height of ListView's data row is (not the header--different height). The height of a ListView meant to fit exactly the contents of the list can't be set statically. This is because, when a system uses font scaling, the ListView rows are going to be scaled relative to the scaled font. So, I have to find out what the height of the first row is (since they're all the same height) and then multiply that by the number of items in the list. This should get me an exact fit for the height of the ListView.

Find Value In Dataset?

Apr 21, 2009

I'm having trouble locating a specific value in a dataset.

I have a datatable with 2 columns... "TaskName" and "TaskID" ...I need to look against the dataset using a "Task Name" to return a "TaskID"

on button click...

dim dv as new dataview(ds.tables("TaskTable")
dv.sort = "TaskName"
dv.RowFilter = "TaskName = '" & Textbox1.Text & "'"
Textbox2.text = dv.item(0).toString

This doesnt work, and I don't really want to use a dataview object when I'm not publishing the data to a datagrid or anything like that..

Cannot Find Relationship In Dataset

Mar 14, 2011

I have made a small "front-end" application for an Access databasefile.

I set up 3 tables with relations in Access, and added the database as a datasource in my project. I have done no database programming, and the app has worked nicely for about 2 years. It's a simple master-detail form with 2 datagridviews dragged from the datasource window.

Yesterday I opened the project to add a new form. The form is just a "setttings form" with no database activities.

When I press F5 - the main form do not start, and I get the error message "DataMember property '{0}' cannot be found on the DataSource." - where the property name is the name of one of the 2 relationships in the datasource.

The second method would involve creating a dataset and populating it with a select statement.

.net - Find Whether A Filtered BindingSource Contains An Item From The Underlying DataSet?

Apr 25, 2012

I've got a databound query in my application which is querying the "Customers" table in our database.I've created this directly from the ComboBox's datasource creator in the Design view.Various bits of code created in the designer include:

Me.CustomerBindingSource.DataSource = Me.CustomerDataSet
Me.ComboBox_Customers.DataSource = Me.CustomerBindingSource

What I've done in the first stage of developing this feature is to show my users a ComboBox showing a specific subset of the customer list by applying a filter to the BindingSource.

Me.CustomerBindingSource.Filter = "someColumn = 3"

What I want to do on a second pass is to allow the users to type a specific bit of information into a textbox and check whether it appears in Me.CustomerDataSet like so:

Dim x As IEnumerable(Of CustomerDataSet.customerRow) = From cust In Me.CustomerDataSet.customer Where cust.custno.Trim = "test"
If x.Count <> 0 Then

At this point, I have a customerRow object. I want to check whether this customerRow object appears in the list presented to users in Me.ComboBox_Customers via the filtered Me.CustomerBindingSource. Me.CustomerBindingSource does not (directly) contain customerRow objects, it contains Object objects.How do I find out whether Me.CustomerBindingSource contains the customerRow object at whatever lower level?Also Once I've determined that Me.CustomerBindingSource contains the item, how do I select that entry in the ComboBox?

Dim cfIndex As Integer = CMCConsole.caseBS.Find("MatterNumber", MtrNum)
Dim cfIndex2 As Integer = CMCConsole.casefileBS.Find("MatterNumber", MtrNum)

VB 2008 Dataset Error : "A First Chance Exception Of Type 'System.InvalidOperationException' Occurred In System.Data.dll"

Sep 27, 2008

I am trying to perform a simple bound connection between an Access database and a text box on a form. This is actually Chapter 18 of the "Microsoft Visual Basic 2008" book.I get the same error message when trying to create my own project "MY ADO Form" or the "ADO Form" project supplied from the DVD provided with the book. I am running the 90 Day Trial Version of Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 and Net 3.5 SP1.

My operating system is the 64 bit Version of Vista with all updates.The error when I try to run the application in the debug mode is:"A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll"and as a result no data shows up in the text box from the database and the data selection bar is grayed out in the form. The underlying database "Students Data Set" appears to be fine as I have seen the correct data for the fields "Instructor" and "PhoneNumber" prior to running the program and when connecting with the database.

Can't Save Data To Install Folder - Can't Find Data After Written

May 19, 2011

I've written a very simple program that writes a tiny "config.cfg" (text) file to the computer (using StreamWriter), and a second program that is supposed to read that data back.

Unfortunately, it appears you can't save to the same folder as your program under Win7 ("Program Files (x86)" is a restricted folder.) So instead, VB automatically saves my data to the "C:Users(myname)AppDataRoaming..." folder. This is annoying, but tolerable.

PROBLEM IS: How does my second app then FIND my data file (without doing a time-wasting drive search every time the program is run?)

My code:

' Program #1:
Private Sub cmdSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdSave.Click
Dim FileWriter As New StreamWriter("config.cfg")

[Code].....
