I have a large project where we have 2-3 dll projects that are converted from VB6 to VB.NET. We have fixed all the issues that caused compilation errors, and most of obvious issues in running, so now we have basically a program up and running. The exe is created from scratch in VB.NET, using a lot of functionality from the converted dll's (including GUI forms). What I wonder is when I run the program in debug mode, I get a bunch of warnings in the "Immediate Window" saying:

...and some of other type (but most of them in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll).I was wondering if this is common in projects converted from VB6, or if it is caused by bad design in our code...

I have several ActiveX controls in my project one of them loads solidmodeling files for viewing. Because this process can take some time the authors provided an OnFinishedLoadingDocument event.This worked fine under VB6.Now however under VB.NET 2008 framework 3.5 I get an exception thrown When I try to access a form control from this event.

I am trying to perform a simple bound connection between an Access database and a text box on a form. A developer has created a custom control in ASP.NET using VB.NET. The custom control uses a repeater. In certain scenarios, the rpt_ItemDataBound event is encountering a data error. My goal is rather than having the user see the yellow screen of death, give the user a friendlier error explaining exactly what the data error is. I figured I would be able to use a Try/Catch block as shown below throw the exception, however, it appears that the event has nowhere to be thrown to and stops executing at the "End Try" line.

In VB.NET, I can find where the repeater's DataSource is being set, however, I can not find a DataBind event. How I can capture the exception in this ASCX control so I can report it to the user. The stack trace looks like this. There is another repeater within the repeater that is actually causing the error (rptOther) and I'm able to catch the error, but I can only throw it to the rpt_ItemDataBound. How rpt_ItemDataBound is getting called without a DataBind event.

I have created a windows form based application and I want the form to add a user specified amount of user controls (with textboxes) on to a panel. The user can then click some button and the controls on this panel are cleared and new ones are added. The user does something and the process is repeated. Now, I wanted these textboxes to support spell checking and looked all over for a free solution.
WPF textboxes support spell checking where the ones in regular win forms do not. I thought I would be able to use these WPF textboxes by adding them to an ElementHost object which is, in turn, within a panel. This panel would be a user control.
So, in my application, I would be able to add instances of these user controls onto the form and make use of .NET's spell checking goodness. This actually worked but after using the application for a while, found that the application would eventually freeze on me due to out of memory errors. I have pinpointed the memory errors to these WPF controls since this problem does not happen with normal textboxes.
When the window is opened and the number of controls is specified, this is pretty much how the controls are added:

Following this conclusion, I have tried different solutions regarding disposing these controls or setting them to nothing but the memory problem keeps occurring.

I am using VS 2008, Office 2007, and Win7 Home Premium on my system.I have a simple application which should be a breeze to build. All I am attempting to do is pull data from an Access database with four small tables into a data grid on a windows project. Should be simple, set up the data connection, choose a datagrid from the table in the data source view, drag it onto the page and done, right?I can't get it to work. It will all work fine until I attempt to run or debug the project. The data will not show up. As I said, the project seems to build fine, but it will not pull the data. After the initial build I get the message that Windows will show this page in Compatibility View. Is it something with Win7 Home Premium, or a setting somewhere?

Brief of my project: Taking attendance using RFID reader and RFID passive tag. Main tasks:
1) Scan a Tag and Tag ID is transmitted to GUI.
2) Tag ID is matched with Student ID in database.
3) Successfully matched Student ID is displayed on GUI and LCD.
When i had experienced this problem, student ID was only display on UI but not LCD. After that, my system hang. This happened only when the data of tag scanned is taken from text file through OpenFileDialog. Manually add of data via UI just work fine.

View 4 RepliesI have a project that I am working on and I just recently transfered it from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine. Both machines are running VB Studio and the only thing that changed was I moved it from the XP machine to the WIndows 7 environment. I have not changed any of the code, I just transfered it and ran it to make certain nothing happened.
