other than GML (Yoyogames.com Game Maker Language), I am new to the coding world. The only "major" project I have completed using VB is a computer calculator that exactly mimics the capabilities of Windows 7's calculator. Yesterday, I began a Chatbot program for my girlfriend. Lol. I have used the instr() function to answer most of the questions or answers which are typed into the textbox1. I find this extremely troublesome because when using the instr() function you cannot say instr(textbox1.
Public Class Form1 Dim fos As String = "Foster: " Dim ash As String = "Ashley: "
It's exactly as the topic says. I have a text file with an unknown amount of words, typed out like this:tastymuffinsaredeliciousWhat I need is a counter that will tell me how many words there are, and in this case (besides a tasty muffin), there are 4 words. Is there a simple way to do this?
i want to create a html editor. to get started, i want the app to be able to find certain words, and change the font/color/size/etc. as for <a href=""><b> and so on, without changing the rest of the text after the selected text was modified. i'm sure that it has something to do with RichTextBox1_TextChanged for text that is being typed and just a button click for modifying selected text.
how to permanently save to text files then re-open all of the information again using SFD and OFD. Now my teacher has come back at me and said that i need to be able to save the information from multiple text boxes and have the text in certain labels to also be saved into the one text file (the labels need to be done because it is a database and these labels are like the fields and the right text box needs to match the right label)
I have to find a string in a huge text file ( ~ 50MB) and then replace it.Since it's quite huge I tend to open the file and then read line by line, and then replace the necessary line(s) (rather than "readall" the file of course). My question is how to replace the whole line?Let's say I found the line that should be replaced . I know I can create a copy file and copy all lines into there ... but I'd prefer to replace the line in the original file rather than creating a copy instance.
I am using the following code, but cannot get this to work. I have got it to work if the replacement is just of one word. So if the word test is replaced by mouse and the only thing in the file is the word test, it works.
How can I replace like this: CH_IPVOD_filename.mpg > replace the CH_IPVOD_ with nothing for the result of: filename.mpg ?
I would like to replace every instance of ch_ipvod_ with nothing. Public Class Form4 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim fso, inputFile, outputFile Dim str As String [Code] .....
I am using VB2010 and currently have a random letter and number applicaation but for some reason students dont seem to have the ability to type these in correctly!Does anyone have some code to put words from text file or string into a text box.
I have found a list of words [URL] that I saved as a txt. I want to be able to cycle through it with my program I am making. I have a string and I want it to change everytime that timer3 is finished, timer1 will use it again.
An example: dim theWord as String timer1.tick....textbox1.text = "It is a " & theWord " day!"end sub timer2.tick....Whatever I have this doend sub timer3.tick...theWord = the next word in the listend sub
How would I accomplish this? Anyone better list of words than 850 in txt format.
I just got VB and I am having a hard time learning this stuff. but I am not giving up.I am looking to make a web text scraper, so I can scrape words off of webpages and put them into a text file.I couldnt find a whole lot of help in the search function. bare with me, I am new here and new to programing also.
i want to search "words with mark" in txt file. For example: i want to search: "tm" in my txt file. but my code couldn't find that word, it could find a word "tam".[code]
there is no sequence like tab delimited, comma delimited or CL/LF, so it need to search on every prefix series and fetch entire serial number. But i have no clue how to write code in vb.net 2005.
I need to be able to search through a text file and find a line of text, then delete that line and the 7 previous lines and also the line following the searched line. Basically the program creates student records to a text file and asks if the user wants to mark the record for deletion then when the user exits the program, I want it to find the records mark for deletion and delete them. The records in the text file look like this:
Name: Some, Students, Name Age: 20 Phone Number: (555) 555-5555
Sorry if this seems like I haven't searched, however I have. Maybe I'm not understanding something or maybe I just haven't found what I need. Anyway my question is this. How would I find multiple strings in a text file and replace them? So far I've been able to find out how to replace a single string with:
I have a text file stored as a string variable. The text file is processed so that it only contains lowercase words and spaces. Now, say I have a static dictionary, which is just a list of specific words, and I want to count, from within the text file, the frequency of each word in the dictionary. For example:
Text file:
i love love vb development although i m a total newbie
Dictionary:
love, development, fire, stone
The output I'd like to see is something like the following, listing both the dictionary word and its count. If it makes coding simpler, it can also only list the dictionary word that appeared in the text.
WORD, COUNT
love, 2
development, 1
fire, 0 stone, 0
Using a regex (eg "w+") I can get all the word matches, but I have no clue how to get the counts that are also in the dictionary, so I'm stuck. Efficiency is crucial here since the dictionary is quite large (~100,000 words) and the text files are not small either (~200kb each).
i can open a text file with 196000 words to listbox1. can i pick out 10 random words out of listbox1 to listbox2 by clicking button2? and if i click button2 again can it shuffle to a new words?
I am attempting to make a text editor. I have a folder which contains hundreds of text files. I would like to search through all files simultaneously, for some text then replace the text with other text & save, & overwrite originals. I've got most of the basic structure done, but I've go no idea how to search for text in all files in a folder.
I've been working on a small project to sort through multiple text files which have all the same strings. Basically, I am looking to sort through and create a text delimited file for future use. The below script is what I have come up with so far, and have tried several "For Loops" but found that I was lot worse off than working with the "Do"[code]...
I am trying to open up a text file that contains some text. I have 3 text boxes on my screen. What I need to figure out is how to replace multiple words (1 in each textbox) with text it finds in the txt file.
I can do this by using the single find / replace feature but I'm trying to be able to fill out the 3 textboxes and then click my find / replace button to have my Regex find each predefined word and replace it with what is in the text boxes.
Here is my code to get the find / replace one word at time feature. I've tinkered with this to just add more variables to my Regex but it doesn't seem to work.
I am making a program which generates Tambola Tickets. The program reads a list of movie names from a file and it randomly selects x no. of names per ticket and writes those names to a file.
For e.g. imagine there are 24 movie names. The program has to print 10 tickets and each ticket will habe 12 names.
I have written a program which does that but I think my random no. generator is repeating a few movie names pretty frequently.
plus I have to ensure that no one ticket can have a name repeated.
Dim NoTickets as Short = 10, Total as byte = 24 ' total = total movies in array ' Duplicate is function that ensures that no number is repeated ' MovieList is normal array with movie names
So I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:
Quote:
SHOWNAME CALLNAME BREED
[Code]....
So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.
