I have a folder containing about 100 word documents (.docx format)... I want to make a search application for them. How to read a document using the openxml method... but my query is how to search for text, shall I load each one and carry out the search in the textbox?

ASP.net app inserts Microsoft Windows 2007 .docx file into a row on DB2 OS/390 Blob table. A different VB.net app gets the DB2 OS/390 Blob data. VB.net app kicks off Microsoft Word to open the .docx file but then Microsoft Word pops up a message that the data is corrupted. Word will allow you to fix the data so the file can be viewed but it is extra steps and users complain.I've seen some examples where .docx can be converted to .doc but they only talk about stripping out the text. Some of our .docx have pictures in them.

Unfortunately it only works with .docx and from what I understand .doc is not compatible with the OpenXML format. So, what I'm wondering is if I can take that WordprocessingDocument and convert it to a .doc when users try and download it.

View 2 RepliesTrying to write an app to load a Text file and then search for substrings that contains some specific characters to compose a list. Tried first loading the text file into a StreamReader then search line by line for my substrings. Had to write a lot of code to identify my strings, but it worked ok. Then tried loading the text file into a RichTextBox then use RichTextBox.Find(......) to look for my substrings. The " .Find" property makes the code really simple, but using RichTextBox the app was really slow.
Using Stream the loop was completed in about 2 minutes and using RichTextBox in about 30 minutes! I will need to make a lot of searches and using RichTextBox is lots easier, but is too slow. Is there any way to perform search operations using Streams instead making a loop and go looking line by line??? Or what else would be a good solution to search for strings in a text file??
I got some code that im try to make search and text file and replace it. The code im using to replace it with is whatever the user entered in txtURL.text. Here is what i have

The format I need is a group of numbers in a text file and it looks like this and it will always look like this:xxxx x xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx x xxxxxxxxxxx xxxx x
The problem is that it can be anywhere in a text file so I cannot search by a particular line.

So I am trying to create a Win App to make copying files using Robocopy easier and eventually other tasks. Basically what I have so far is a Button that calls the Sub Robcopy_EXE. There is a tab on the form with 100 check boxes, one for each terminal, that will be designated by the user and a check box to determine if you want a detailed report or not from Robocopy. I also have a text box for the user to input the first 3 octets of the site IP Address. The check boxes and Input field are used to create string "Terminal_input" which is what runs Robocopy in CMD. Robocopy logs its progress to a text file that I have labeled "Status.txt". That is as far as I have gotten.
