I have a folder containing about 100 word documents (.docx format)... I want to make a search application for them. How to read a document using the openxml method... but my query is how to search for text, shall I load each one and carry out the search in the textbox?
we consistently get a file corrupted error message when opening a docx file from a saved bytestream, evry other file type works just ok
Below is code from a sample form that replciate the issue
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click 'Objective is to be able to copy a file to a bytestream then create a new document from that stream and then opne it.
ASP.net app inserts Microsoft Windows 2007 .docx file into a row on DB2 OS/390 Blob table. A different VB.net app gets the DB2 OS/390 Blob data. VB.net app kicks off Microsoft Word to open the .docx file but then Microsoft Word pops up a message that the data is corrupted. Word will allow you to fix the data so the file can be viewed but it is extra steps and users complain.I've seen some examples where .docx can be converted to .doc but they only talk about stripping out the text. Some of our .docx have pictures in them.
I've successfully implemented OpenXML that takes the bookmarks within a document and replaces them. Unfortunately it only works with .docx and from what I understand .doc is not compatible with the OpenXML format. So, what I'm wondering is if I can take that WordprocessingDocument and convert it to a .doc when users try and download it.
I am not sure if this is a dumb question or not? Is there a way that we can read a .docx file and put it into a richtextbox? If so how? I have tried.LoadFile and it throws an exception saying invalid format? I tried reading the file from a stream and that also doesn't work?
I am trying to set a program that save information to a file(store number, state and name. Then once user put store number and click display it shows the founded result in each box. like state in statebox and name in name box. This is my code so far
for the display button
Private Sub displayButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles displayButton.Click Dim file As String = ""
i had another question when i read a file like this: i need the program to search from the top of the text file and not where you stopped:
Dim FS As New FileStream("First_Player_Properties.txt", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read) Dim textfile As New StreamReader(FS) 'Create an instance of StreamReader to read from a file.
I'm working on the project , the project is to find specific word from text file then if it match find and return specific data from text file , i start to read the text file and search but i have some problem, i want if it match return the next line and the index of that line . How

The column 1 in text file 1 and text file 2 match albeit in different order, what I'm trying to achieve is for every field in column 1 text file 2 I want to search for column 1 in text file 1 and display the matching column 2 field in column 2 text file 2.
I am looking for a code snippit that searches the files in a specified directory for text that is inputed by the user then adds the files that contain that text to a list box
I hav 2 forms the first form has 5 textboxes and second form is only for searching and display the result so I would like a sample code to perform a search in text file for a word but also display the results but all the data is entered from form one
I have a whole bunch of files, which I would need to search for error codes and # of instances it occured. I tried ReadAllLines of File.IO but that just gives # of lines. How would we search for string within a file and count its instances?
Program to search through every text file in a directory even if the names of files are not known and to search through all of them for a particular word.
The user inputs a serial number in a form, the program searches a specified text file on the internet for that serial number, and if it is there then the program runs normally, but if not it exits. I already know how to do the trial part of this program and I know that this is not secure as someone could just hack it and find the text file and read the numbers, however this is for school and is not commercial. The only thing I need to know is how to search a text file for exact text that has been inputted by the user. I've been trawling the internet and I've heard of something called instr or something, but I'm not sure.
Trying to write an app to load a Text file and then search for substrings that contains some specific characters to compose a list. Tried first loading the text file into a StreamReader then search line by line for my substrings. Had to write a lot of code to identify my strings, but it worked ok. Then tried loading the text file into a RichTextBox then use RichTextBox.Find(......) to look for my substrings. The " .Find" property makes the code really simple, but using RichTextBox the app was really slow.
Using Stream the loop was completed in about 2 minutes and using RichTextBox in about 30 minutes! I will need to make a lot of searches and using RichTextBox is lots easier, but is too slow. Is there any way to perform search operations using Streams instead making a loop and go looking line by line??? Or what else would be a good solution to search for strings in a text file??
I got some code that im try to make search and text file and replace it. The code im using to replace it with is whatever the user entered in txtURL.text. Here is what i have
Dim strFile as String Dim result as String strFile = "C:\test.txt" oRead = IO.File.OpenText(strFile) result = Replace(oRead.ReadToEnd(), txtURL.text, "1F.php") oRead.Close()
Is this writing it back to the file also....I think that might be the problem, not sure..
i want to search "words with mark" in txt file. For example: i want to search: "tm" in my txt file. but my code couldn't find that word, it could find a word "tam".[code]
I want to search a text file (*.txt extension) for a certain keyword or a part of it. And then let the found item be displayed in a listbox or something else. Now the more difficult part, how can I display the word in front of that found word ?
Example: I search for VBFORUMS in a file called test.txt I find this: VBFORUMS but in front of that is this: IDS_IDS_TXT_008912VBFORUMS
How can I then display the IDS_IDS_TXT_008912 on a label ?
I want to load a text file (a item master with 7 fields line by line) in windows CE 5.0 and search a item no. then display the record of this item no. from text file. how to search a record from a two-dimensional array, when matching, display the record.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim parser As IO.TextReader = System.IO.File.OpenText("C:\qstck.txt") Dim FileLines() As String = Split(parser.ReadToEnd(), vbCrLf)
The format I need is a group of numbers in a text file and it looks like this and it will always look like this:xxxx x xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx x xxxxxxxxxxx xxxx x
The problem is that it can be anywhere in a text file so I cannot search by a particular line.
How can I search for this type of string format in a text file?
So I am trying to create a Win App to make copying files using Robocopy easier and eventually other tasks. Basically what I have so far is a Button that calls the Sub Robcopy_EXE. There is a tab on the form with 100 check boxes, one for each terminal, that will be designated by the user and a check box to determine if you want a detailed report or not from Robocopy. I also have a text box for the user to input the first 3 octets of the site IP Address. The check boxes and Input field are used to create string "Terminal_input" which is what runs Robocopy in CMD. Robocopy logs its progress to a text file that I have labeled "Status.txt". That is as far as I have gotten.
