Read Text File / Search For String Then Add To Line And Write Back?
Nov 18, 2010I would like to read an HTML file, search each line to see if it starts with </head>. Then add the centering code after it. That line at destination file should read:
</head><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="2" width="760"align="center"><tr><td>
After this I don't care to search for anything. Just read from source and write to destination. I know there are programs out there to find/replace text in series of files but I am not allowed to use external programs.

Dec 15, 2009I'm using vb.net 1.1 to develop the program. I got text files that contain test result from a machine, like below.
T1 1.24535 2.56335 2.43253 1.24538 2.55619 4.35243
T2 1.42542 1.63728 3.57295 4.59275 1.57320 2.72057
T3 5.12857 2.45375 6.38593 2.58375 3.57259 3.57204
I need to check the test result with the data from database, to find out which test result is failed. If there is a fail test result, I will show an alert to the operator and stop the checking process. Until the operator close the alert, then the checking process will continue from the last read point.

I already know how to do the trial part of this program and I know that this is not secure as someone could just hack it and find the text file and read the numbers, however this is for school and is not commercial. The only thing I need to know is how to search a text file for exact text that has been inputted by the user. May 26, 2008how to do this for vb6 however i am using vb 2008 and the code for vb6 does not seem to work.
I have designed a form with a text box on it, and a command button underneath. The idea is to run this as a sort of stiky notes section.
I want the text box to read rich text into the textbox (C:\\stickynotes.rtf")
Then i have a command button underneath which i want to save the content of the rich text box to the rtf file (C:\\stickynotes.rtf). This is so that the user can edit and ammend information.

Dec 16, 2010Trying to write an app to load a Text file and then search for substrings that contains some specific characters to compose a list. Tried first loading the text file into a StreamReader then search line by line for my substrings. Had to write a lot of code to identify my strings, but it worked ok. Then tried loading the text file into a RichTextBox then use RichTextBox.Find(......) to look for my substrings. The " .Find" property makes the code really simple, but using RichTextBox the app was really slow.
Using Stream the loop was completed in about 2 minutes and using RichTextBox in about 30 minutes! I will need to make a lot of searches and using RichTextBox is lots easier, but is too slow. Is there any way to perform search operations using Streams instead making a loop and go looking line by line??? Or what else would be a good solution to search for strings in a text file??
