Oct 14, 2010I am attempting to find some code to use in VB.NET to decrypt a string that has been encrypted using the Java crypto libary.All of the code I have found so far uses an Initialisation Vector and Key to decrypt but the string has been encrypted using the Key only. (Using an Initialisation Vector is apperently an optional step in Java).Does anyone know of code that I can use (preferably in VB.NET but i could convert C#) to decrypt AES 128 Bit encoded string without an Initialisation Vector?

But some one can easily use the "UnprotectSection" method to decrypt the connection strings

Oct 12, 2009I'm working on a way to authenticate users in my app, and what I've come up with is the following method.To write to a database, the user must have an account in SQL server 2008. However, I still want people to be able to view the application if they don't have access, but only read, they can't sync any changes. This is working well, as I have a string array hard coded containing approved users:

The one problem with hardcoding is that if I need to ever add a user later on, I'd have to release an update to the program. (which isn't hard as I already have updating built into the app, and users can still download updates even if they can't sync.)
What I'd like to do, is use an encrypted .dat file that contains the user names, and store that with the application, so that i could always be added to, and only one file would need to be downloaded.
I have code in place to encrpt and decrypt the .dat file (called users.dat) and this code works for single text entries in the file. I need to figure out how to load a list however into the array in place.

Basically each line in the file will have an encrypted user name, and i want it to decrypt each line and store it back into that authorized user list.

We used to save all settings to registry for user settings, servername, size and locations.so we are now saving them into My.Settings app.config the only problem is that each time there is an update clickonce will isntall the newupdate but now all settings are loist and user has to save everything all over again..
I am trying to follow the book here but it seems i keep getting stuck somewhere. registry has worked fine for years but i understand we must move on, but if stuff like this happens then i just wasted a long time converting all code to conform for it to not work..

This means that the pluginApp never will read the settings according the values of the file.

Jul 29, 2009Im doing a lil coding project in vb .net, i wrote up my login script and can can successful connect to a mysql database (not talking about the wordpress one) and pull login data from a table(called logins, fields are just username and password) to use for logging into my application. When i looked at the password fields in the wordpress database all the passwords are like encrypted and are random characters.
So the problem is im not sure of what type of encryption it is, and how I can utilize it for my login form in my vb project. I havn't tried coding this since i was certain if it was possible.

Sep 27, 2009I set up some application settings for checkboxes on an app and then decided to remove them. When I set the Application Settings to (none) in the designer and restarted the app, the checkbox constantly checks and unchecks itself. I completely remade the app and removed the file that is used to store my.settings in the Local folder of the user's appdata profile. I also made sure to uncheck the "save my.settings" on shutdown.

My.Settings.Upgrade Stopped Preserving Settings After Visual Studio And Framework Were Upgraded?
Jan 13, 2011The company has been using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0 for approximately 2 years. During that time we released several versions (4.x.x) of our program to the public and were able to preserve the user's settings using My.Settings.Upgrade.During the past development cycle we upgraded the program to Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 and changed the version to 5.x.x. Now, when a user upgrades from 4.x.x to 5.x.x they lose all of their settings.However, in all upgrades after that point (ie 5.0 to 5.1) all the user's settings are once again preserved.I checked C:Documents and Settings<USER_NAME>Local SettingsApplication DataCompanyName and it contains two directories:
ApplicationName_Url_aaa ApplicationName_Url_bbb
where aaa and bbb are 32 character strings. All of the user.config files for the 4.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_ Url_aaa directory. All of the user.config files for the 5.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_Url_bbb directory.Based on this information it seems like something changed when we converted our program to VS2010 and Framework4 that is now causing a different 32 character string to be generated. However, we have been unable to track it down.

Jan 14, 2009I just wondered if you can or can't save arrays using the settings system object. There seems to be no way of entering it at designtime. It seems implied you cannot create new user settings.subobjects at runtime. I'm looking to find the easiest way to save a populated array of PictureBox's. If the only way is a self/custom made/managed .ini file then I need to know so i can start on that but I was hoping to use some of all this phaff in the new frameworks usefully.

Nov 10, 2011i am trying to decrypt a file that was encrypted with Des. However not all of the file is encrypted just a few lines are. Here is an example of the file im trying to decrypt:
Random text
Encrypted Text
MD5 Hash
Encryption Key(Only there for tests)
Number of encrypted lines
The idea is to read the last three lines into variables and use them to decrypt the text. At the moment i use the number of lines - (the number of encrypted lines + 3) to find where the encrypted text starts. Then i was trying to copy the encrypted text to a temp file so i could run the code bellow on it, however i am getting an encoding error apparently i need to be using base64 or something. So my question is can anybody explain to me or show me how i can pull the encrypted text out of the file so that i can use the code bellow on it.
