I am converting an old Vb6 solution to .net 2.0 in vs2010. I've been working in C# for about 3 years now and .net for 5. I don't recall having this problem in C#, but if I want initialize a readonly collection of DerivedControlFoo Is there a clean way to do it besides creating a sub to do it all off somewhere else? I'd love to be able to do it at the class level at the declaration for readability and simplicity.

I have a problem that when I drag the app out of the Release folder, it crashes, giving me this error:Could not load file or assembly 'Encryption_Class, Version=1.0.0.0...' or one of its dependencies. View 2 RepliesIt's been a while since I last posted something, but this attracted my attention. Since many of my programs share the same type of code, I decided to dump it all in a class library for other programs to use.
Now I have a problem, Windows Forms in a class library can't be displayed. There is no "Show(Dialog)" command, only some for event handling. All properties are gone as well. The only way I managed to display a form is by making it as a new variable: 'Dim f as windows.forms.form
But this won't work because of the enormous amount of handlers added to the original.
How can I show my (TextureBrowse in my case) Dialog so other programs can use it?
You know we have to register a type library for a COM component.My question is do we need to do in .net environment if I created a library?

is there any way of 'Widening' the inherited class to the base class so this would work?
EDIT:regarding XmlInclude(typeof inheritedClass), currently this method could potentially return a number of types of inherited class (i.e myInheritedClassA and myInheritedClassB) is it case of simply having to add each of the inheritedTypes in this tag?

The problem is that applicarion.run(frmMain) displays the form in the same thread the the code stops work while the form is open. And I need that the app works in this way because the user need to send files to the app using args and this avoid that the app init another instance of it (in other code) and update the form with the info when the event is raised.

I have a class library in VB.NET that does a NET-envelope for an USB device driver.There is only one function of that driver that I could not envelope in a traditional class, but I had to put it in a Windows Service as described here:Sharing a class property (field) between applications.The Windows Service works fine, but I have now two projects for my NET-envelope: the one with the class library, the second with the windows service and I do not like the idea to maintain two distinct projects for the same driver.Is it a good practice (or even if possible) to add a windows service class to a normal class library (without creating its own project as described in the vb tutorial)?I know, in any case I should create a separate setup only for the windows service, but in this way I could have together all the classes that envelope my usb device driver in only one project.
View 1 RepliesI have extended an Entity Framework 4 entity class with a calculated property in a partial class. This member is not available on the client to which the entities are exposed via WCF RIA Services.when using C# appears to be changing the extension of the partial class file from .cs to .shared.cs. I tried this with my VB.Net solution (.vb to .shared.vb) and got a long list of errors. I believe what happened is that the partial class lost its association with the entity on the client - it inherited from object rather than EntityObject.
My best guess is that this is related to the way that VB.Net handles namespaces.Each project has a 'Root Namespace' which is prepended to anything that is defined within a code file. C# has a 'Default Namespace'which is the namespace into which new types are placed by default - via a namespace statement within the file.The partial class is probably having the client namespace prepended to it which puts it into a different namespace than the entity with which it is associated on the server.Is there any means of extending an entity in such a way that those extensions are available on the client via WCF RIA Services and VB.Net?
I've createda vb.net class library where I've defined a number of small classes... nothing complicated, just working with strings, sending emails, etc.In another project, I reference the class library and I'm seemingly able to create an instance ofone of tclasses - intellisense shows me all of the plic properties, methods, etc... all looks perfect. No compile errors at all, nothing b gumdropsand lollipops.When I run the app I'm working on that references the class library, it fails at the point where I'm creating an instance of the class and gives me a vague exception, "System.TypeLoadException".

I have two projects, namely:
1. Project1 (Windows Application)
2. Project2 (Class Library)
in Project2 there are several classes:
* frmLogin.vb
* frmCustomer.vb
* clsGlobals.vb
in my case, I want to frmLogin.vb and frmCustomer.vb not called in Project1 and I can only call is clsGlobals.vb
In our application, we have a number of Windows Services (more than 30) that must run behind the scenes to process data at given times throughout the day. I was attempting to create a BaseService class that I could inherit from that would log to our database when the service started or stopped as well as some other common functionality. However, I ran into a show stopper in trying to create BaseService as MustInherit as we have a number of MustOverride properties. The issue lies in:

Our code is all in VB (as you can probably tell). Given that it is a Shared method, I cannot have it be overriden (i.e. make it MustOverride). Without this method, the code will not compile, however it will not really work in the base class. The code in this method is:

The BaseService (the name of my base class) cannot be created because it is specified as MustInherit. And therein lies my problem. I cannot create this in the Base Class and cannot override it in the inheriting classes.
I have a class library project (.dll) which contains a couple of forms.I now have a new project that would be the Client.
1) How do I load the forms from the dll into this project at runtime?
2) How do I set the client to be the MDiParent of the forms that will be opened from the dll?
I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

After I write the code I chose from the vb menu: Build->Build Solution_name
Before writing the code I choose File->New->and selected class library then save all to save as a project.
Or class library is only a dll file that runs with a windows forms application. (that is added after i write the code for write library).
