I have two projects, namely:
1. Project1 (Windows Application)
2. Project2 (Class Library)
in Project2 there are several classes:
* frmLogin.vb
* frmCustomer.vb
* clsGlobals.vb
in my case, I want to frmLogin.vb and frmCustomer.vb not called in Project1 and I can only call is clsGlobals.vb
I can't make difference between public class and private class and friend and protected friend class.

So far I've taken to putting a 'l' (for local) in front of the all the private variables so as to be able to use the full name for the property. Is there a better way around this, or do you just always have to have different names for private variable/public properties? If so, what sort of conventions do people use?
Its not a huge deal, its just a minor annoyance and I was wondering if I was missing something.
what websites, books or courses you guys suggest to use so I learn the fundamentals of programming. What is a class, method, namespace, private vs public. That leads me into .Net programming. A lot of intro to programming use java or C++ as the platform but I want to find one with VB.net or maybe C# if.

For the sake of this thread, what I would like to do is get the name of the label that was clicked which in the code below is already done, convert it to string (not sure if this needs to be done), this is also done in the code below. Next I want to compare the labelnamestring to all the variables in the public class to find out which one it is equal to and then disply that variable which should be my rs232 string in the message box. I have also added "Cmd" to the variable names above so I also need to work out how to add the text "Cmd" to the string to properly compare.

I am just testing how to use dll and after googling a lot, I made it work partially...Created new project Class Library, named it myFirstDll and made a Public Shared Sub helloDll to do something. Now since this is my first time, the dll is simply showing the input in a msgbox:

After building the dll-file, I started a new project using normal windows forms, named it "useMyDll", I clicked Project -> Add Reference, and added my dll. The program file that I made needed a textbox and a button for using the dll:

And when running this I could write something in the textbox and a msgbox with that input would pop up. Really happy with that. My first attempt to make a dll and use it was very successful. Then I thought, what about running the dll from rundll32.exe? It would be handy to make a dll that could be run without my exe. After googling a long time, I tried to add a new button:

Now the first button still works just fine, but the second button gives some error (translated to english would be) like "missing entry: helloDll" I also tried to open with command prompt, same result.
After googling again I read one place that you can't run a visual basic dll with rundll32.exe, so is this true? Or is there some way of doing it? I read one place that it works if you make the dll be "COM-Visible", but I don't really understand how to or what it means. I tried to open properties, clicked Assembly Information, and "Make assembly COM-Visible", but this doesn't change anything. Then I read somewhere that it has to be in a module to work. Could it be that I need to rewrite some codes and it would work, or would I have to start learning c++ in order to accomplish this?
Is it possible to set a variable in my custom class for Private Read/Write access and Public Readonly access without creating Properties with Get and Set? In other words, from within my class I want full access and from my form I only want read access. Right now I declare my variable as either Private or Public to control Public read/write access. I tried googling my question a bit but I'm not sure what the correct terms even ar

I have a class library in VB.NET that does a NET-envelope for an USB device driver.There is only one function of that driver that I could not envelope in a traditional class, but I had to put it in a Windows Service as described here:Sharing a class property (field) between applications.The Windows Service works fine, but I have now two projects for my NET-envelope: the one with the class library, the second with the windows service and I do not like the idea to maintain two distinct projects for the same driver.Is it a good practice (or even if possible) to add a windows service class to a normal class library (without creating its own project as described in the vb tutorial)?I know, in any case I should create a separate setup only for the windows service, but in this way I could have together all the classes that envelope my usb device driver in only one project.

I've createda vb.net class library where I've defined a number of small classes... nothing complicated, just working with strings, sending emails, etc.In another project, I reference the class library and I'm seemingly able to create an instance ofone of tclasses - intellisense shows me all of the plic properties, methods, etc... all looks perfect. No compile errors at all, nothing b gumdropsand lollipops.When I run the app I'm working on that references the class library, it fails at the point where I'm creating an instance of the class and gives me a vague exception, "System.TypeLoadException".
View 2 RepliesI usually use which is free, works a little too well, it's obfuscating the code that passes between my scripting class and the other classes, so after obfuscating the app, the scripting functions no longer work.However I found another obfuscator called Skater lite which is a free edition, it will only obfuscate private classes and members, so what I would like to do if possible is make most of my classes private and their members (except for the scripting class, which should allow it to work properly after being obfuscated), and somehow still use them globally, declaring an instance of the class doesn't seem to work, I'm not even sure it's possible and I know little about the scope of private classes, so anyone got any ideas or workarounds?

After I write the code I chose from the vb menu: Build->Build Solution_name
Before writing the code I choose File->New->and selected class library then save all to save as a project.
Or class library is only a dll file that runs with a windows forms application. (that is added after i write the code for write library).

Trying to understand the best way to do this and I'm can't get it figured. Here's basically what I have:

I've only included 2 of the class level fields here but there are actually 30, so that's why I was hoping to be able to send the name of the field to set and the value to set it at in the SetValue function. So in some other routine in the program I'd like to be able to issue the following call:
SetValue("iAcctIDStart", "3")
But then when I get into the SetValue routine, I'm not sure how to proceed. I thought about a case statement that would basically be this:

I have an API that I created and currently utilize successfully in C#. I am trying to create an example of interacting with the API in VB.NET (so that the QA without C# experience can still utilize it for creating automated tests).
In C# I do the following

This gives me a compile time error because it claims that FORM_NAME and CASE_TYPE is not defined, even though the class has it defined inside.
How can I use the defined constants inside the class in the class attributes?

I am trying to write some unit tests on a class that looks like this, using Moq [code] the parameterized constructor is private or internal one of the two methods relies on the result of the other.I want to check that when GetThisOrThat is called with a value, it actually calls GetThis. But I also want to mock GetThis so that it returns a specific well-known value.To me this is an example of Partial Mocking, where we create a Mock based on a class, passing the parameters for the constructor. I have created a synchronized queue and am using SyncLock on the SyncRoot property of that queue when I invoke the Enqueue/Dequeue methods. The methods are invoked from instances of standard producer/consumer classes.Is that a proper use of the SyncRoot property?
Would it be better practice to create a private shared object in each class and lock on that instead?

there's a lot of dlls i've got one in the Release folder and one in the Debug folder under bin, there seem to be one in the obj folder as well.they all seem to work fine, but which should be the correct one?
