VS 2008 - Possible To Set Prerequisites For EXE File?

I have created a windows project that has one form which is like a wizard. Now what this wizard does is, it runs an msi file which is my main project setup as well as running the sql server 2005 express setup file. The project embeds sql express in it so I can pass parameters such as sa password etc. That's the reason I've done it this way. Now I need it to be so that when The user clicks my .exe file it detects if the .Net framework 3.5 is installed, and if not it installs it. Is it possible to set prerquisites for my .exe file. I don't want to put all this in a setup project because sql express doesn't support msi chaining.

I have a problem here. I want to distribute .net framework and windows installer along with my app installation file. The questions:1. Is it legal? Windows installer, yes it is legal. I don't know about .net framework 3.52. Which folder do I have to put the files? I tried the publish, debug, and root folder of the application, none works. I select download from the same location of my application in clickonce.

i create a Setup for my application and I want to Download prerequisites (DotNetFX and WindowsInstaller3_1) from my site location.I choose Download prerequisites from the following location: url...On that location i put this folders: DotNetFX and WindowsInstaller3_1But when I install my application on a computer with no DotNetFX and WindowsInstaller3_1 it redirect me to the Microsoft site.

I have a non-click once setup to install a windows service. I have added the prerequisites as specified (extract from doc below). But when I build the solution the prerequisites do not show up. I am choosing .net, mdac 28, crystal XI r2 and the option to download prerequisites from the same location as my application. The program dosen't look for them. What am I missing? I have another windows service that is setup identically and it drops the prerequisites in sub-directories off the.. elease folder and the setup installs them if necessary. I am configuring VS2008 on a new machine. Everything looks good except for the Prerequisites list. On my other machine, I have "SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1" listed, which is what I want to set my build to. However, on my new machine, I don't have this, and clicking the "Check Microsoft Update..." link does not present this as an option. how I might manually get this added to the list?

I created a small project in VB using a SQLExpress db. So far everything has been fine. I need to take the little I've done to the customer for a look and feel approval.
When attempting to publish the project, I get the following errors:
"The install location for prerequisites has not been set to 'component vendor's web site' and the file...." You know the drill.
The two files are SQLEXPR32_x86_ENU.EXE and SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.EXE
I have downloaded the files and put them in the following directory:

I am trying add the prerequisites with my setup i have set the prerequisites download location to the same whwere my application is and now i am getting this type of several errors.

I can read the file when I run the program, but how do I write the file path so that someone else can download my program and file and read the file on their system?

Alright here's my situation: I have a form. This is a very small form that can be moved with the mouse (formborderstyle=none). The transparencyKey is 0,0,1. The form back color is 0,0,1. There is a label on the form. I drag files to this label(its backcolor is black[0,0,0]). What I want is for the filesize to be checked. I already have the uploading to ftpcode, I just want to know if the file is above my limit I set. (250mb per file)

I'm looking for a way to specify the location for the User.config file that is used for storing the My.Settings object. It appears that this is not possible. The problem for me is, I don't want to be responsible for creating several different files on the users computer that really have no use and are difficult to find and clean once an update is released. For most users, this is not a serious problem, as many will probably never update the software, and most will probably only go through a couple of updates. On my system, there are config files for every build of the application, and the same to a lesser extent will be true for my beta testers.
I can understand that MS wants to make sure that no two applications will use the same location for storing application data, but a simple [UserData] [CompanyName][ApplicationName] for storing application data will probably suffice for 99.9999 percent of the legitimate applications in the world. Bogging a user's system down with erroneous files, no matter how small, is an unnecessary drain on system resources and a potential source of problems for the user. It's bad enough that most programs leave bits and pieces of themselves all over a user's system after De-installation - this to me seems only to exaggerate this problem.
Is the only way to get around this problem to write a whole new Settings Class? Is there a way to change the location of the UserConfig file to a more friendly (and more predictable) location that I am not finding for myself? It would seem that having at least the OPTION to specify a location for the User.Config file would be OBVIOUS and easy to implement, so why did they leave this out?

I am trying to run a fortran .exe in VB with the Shell() command. The fortran .exe, when ran, it asks you for a file name. It works perfectly on it's own, but when I try calling it through VB Shell(), it does not work.. (i.e. I cannot get VB to get the file name in it.)
Added info:I am using VB9 but I'm writing in compatibility to .NET. As for the Fortran .exe, when you call it, it opens a command window where it asks for a file name (which I got as a string in VB and I'm trying to pass it in), then you press Enter and it's done. Basically the .exe takes a text file and creates a new text file. We've also tried adding & mystring when calling the exe, but it gives a "file not found" error.

I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

Ok here we go again, im a complete beginner to coding and have started with visual studio 2008 using the .net/vb libraries, as my first project i went with an emulation application, and it went great:So now i think its time to move onto a little more advanced tech's, so i added in a combo box and i want to change how my code works, and this is where my troubles are.To start of with the combo box, i have it added to my winform and have 3 items on it 'Action' 'RPG' and 'Sim' and i have made 3 .txt files in the projects root folder with the same names. What i want to have happen is when the user selects for instance 'RPG' from the combo box the items displayed in the listbox change to the contents of the rpg.txt file. After searching around for a few hours and no luck i tried this

So, I have a task where I need to basically copy about 600,000 PDFs, some of which can be 5-6 MBs from one network fileshare to another network fileshare on another pc.Now, I crawled through the directories, sub-directories etc etc and created what I call a Filename/Filepath Database lookup table. This table contains the name and the unc fileshare path of each file which comes in handy.I have used Multi-threading and File.Copy to "copy" the files and I getting about 45K files per 4 hours which I need to be significantly faster then that and I am seeing performance degrade over time
