I have an app developed in VB that works fine on Vista machines but fails on Win7. The offending line of code merely references a variable stored in a module. Evidentally, something is quite different on Win7. How to I find and fix this behavior?
The code is very straightforward. The error occurs in the Application Startup event.
Public Sub MyApplication_Startup(ByVal sender As Object,
ByVal e As ApplicationServices.StartupEventArgs) _
Handles Me.Startup
I used VB6 to create an EXE file that uses MSComm1.The program runs OK in my XP computer and also in my Win7 computer (that has VBE installed). It would not run on my Vista laptop. I installed the VB runtime files (even though Microsoft says they are not compatible with Vista/Win7) but with no success. However, when I installed VBE on the laptop, it now runs the EXE quite happily.Does installing VBE also install a different set of runtime files? Is it posible to distribute my program to my friends who have Vista or Win 7, without them having to first install VBE?
how to get my vb6 exe to run in any win7 or Vista? The error I'm getting is: Component comdlg32.ocx or one of it's components is not correctly registered or missing. I've tried using the P&D Wizard to specifiy loading it into the SysWOW64 folder but I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly. I use the P&D Wizard then load everything into Inno for delivery but my customers who now have Win7 or Vista can't use my product.
I have a program for playing MP3 files using Media Player. The program developed originally under Vista using VBExpress 2010 works fine.
But when I run it under Win7 parts of the program don't work. In both cases the audio is played OK but under Win7 the 'playstatechange' events don't seem to happen!?!
I have put a breakpoint in event and under Vista the events happen...under Win7 the breakpoint is never reached. In both cases I am using VB Express 2010 and running under the debugger. I have seen this problem reported before in the forums but no answer was apparent.
Ok I have a application that works great on XP, but in windows 7 it will not let me write to my login file, says access is denied since I am not running as admin. Log file is located in "C:Program FilesCompany NameProductMyLog.LOG"
I am facing an interesting problem: I compile an exe file on my computer with XP pack3. And then I gave it to several people. One people told me my application works well on her vista machine but cannot run on her XP machine. Another person told me my application does not work on her Win7.
I want to install my app or (just access db)to AppData folder to enable write for it. so, how can I do that in setup project. Is there just parameter or should I wirte custom action.
We have code in our former VB6 application, that ported fine to VB.NET, that plays a simple AVI file of the typical "flying folders" and "spinning maginfying glass" AVI. Under Windows XP, our application ran fine and everything was good.
Then we had customers start using Vista and Win7 and this stuff crashes. We were using the MS Common Controls (SP4) and then (SP6) - utilizing the Animation player. Now - these dont work and we get nasty errors.
I searched Microsoft and the web to answer the "what now?" question and though there are numerous suggestions, none of them work. We cant use Media Player because we dont want any menu - just the graphic. We dont know why, with the cool tools given in .NET, there is no animation player (seems a huge oversight...) But we need to get "unstuck" on this one, and we need that fast...
So, How does on play a simple AVI file using VB.NET code? What DLL or OCX does Microsoft recommend and is there a place we can find some sample code for it?
Can a form be Created that has Aero Glass when in Vista/Win7 and when running in XP or 98 use a regular border? If so can I have a link to the infromation or a code sample?
I've developed an application that uses NET 2.0 webBrowser controls... runs fine on every platform including XP 64bit on a 64 bit box but fails when tried on a 64 bit Vista - 64 bit box... It should be ok to run a 32 bit app on a 64 bit box... I assume there must be a Hotfix or a SP for this issue but I can find it and I have searched quite a bit.Could it be compiling with NET 2.0 SP 1 or 2 on the development machine OR a Visual Studio 2005 Service pack upgrade on the development machine OR possibly a required Service Pack for the target Vista 64 bit box OR could it be a conflict with a 32 bit WebBrowser control on a system that has 64 bit WebBrowser control - a switch needs to be set somewhere?
i compile my form with the below code when i run it on vista work fine without any problem but when i try to run in on XP cant run... that happened with any XP machine.[code]when i run my exe to other Vista machines work fine... but on xp NO.
I already build an Antivirus but the problem is When the windows start show the UAC message for Users, so that let them aware from it.So how can I turn it off on bith windows Vista and win 7? or make my software as a secure software for Windows?
I'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. (by the way it failes on the line Dim da as BdpDataAdapter...)
I know the propertys transparency key and opacity. It isnt what I am looking for. I need to have my form to have the same Glass Effect the as win7 does while runing under win7 plataform. Like, if i have glass effect in the top I should have it in the background.
I created an application for Windows XP, now it needs to run on Windows 7. I have had some issues to resolve, but rather small ones. I am now stumped on this one... Here is my code block
vb.net Private Shared Sub RenameFileAfterDownload(ByVal File As String) Try
[code]....
The code works perfectly for Windows XP, but the ftpRequest does not work in Windows 7 for renaming. That said, the code runs that entire sub becaues WriteToEventLog get's written, but seems to ignore the ftpRequest lines.
I have a sub that I just discovered does not work for my windows 7 users but works fine for my windows XP users. This is basically a sub for a ping monitor to ping devices on a timer. What happens is that when the windows 7 user tries to ping, it always reports "down" on a windows 7 whether actually up or down. But, windows xp will report correctly with "up". 3 different windows 7 boxes, users say it worked before. Can't quite debug correctly as i'm on xp myself and it works just fine. Also, I haven't changed anything in the code in quite awhile and this is a recent bug that just started.
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick Dim itm As Object Sec = Sec - 1 If ListView1.Items.Count = 0 Then Me.Close() If Sec <= 0 Then [Code] .....
It seems like this would be a very easy thing to accomplish, but, from what I can tell, it's most definitely not. My OS is Windows 7. All I need to do is get the current volume/audio level - the master volume. When you click the little speaker icon in the task bar and change the volume - I need that number. All I need to do is get the current volume and assign it to a label. So if the volume is at 74 when the application starts, I need my label to display 74. I've been searching for days now for a way to do this and I'm starting to get frustrated. I've looked everywhere. I've tried 3 different classes, at least a dozen different codes, assorted imported dll's- none of it even came close to what I need. From what I can tell, the current methods are all designed for windows xp. I need a way to do it in windows 7.
I develop my VS2010 project in my laptop with SQL 2008 Standard. In my laptop everything is working good, using the following connect string as global public string when the main form loads:
I am been working on an a small app that has a Forms.Webbrowser control that navigates to a Adobe Flash program. I have developed the app on Vista 32bit platform and have had no problems. I have sent the app to a couple of people to test out and one is using Vista 64bit and is running into a problem. I know the webbrowser control just uses the underlying base framework of IE. The problem on the 64 bit machine is when the site is navigated to it says that it needs to have Flash installed. When the user goes to Adobe's site it says they need to use a 32bit browser.
As stated on Adobe site here:[URL] the Flash player need to be in a 32 bit browser. What options do I have to be able fix this problem? Is there another control that I can use that would be the same in a 32bit platform and 64bit platform? Besides navigating to the Flash program, the browser also goes to standard web pages.
I am totally into structures at this point, mostly because of their simplicity in use. I am now working on a "download structure", which allows you to download and keep track on a file. This is the
Public Structure FileDownload Sub New(ByVal URL As String, ByVal DestFilePath As String) Me.URL = URL
I have made a small form where I have bound textbox with records from database.Although my code for inserting and updating the record seems fine and working. But when I view the database, tables i see no inserts/updates made there. But When I run my application again, I see the records in the bound textbox but only for some seconds (for around 1 and half minutes), although they are not shown in the database (tables) actually.
When I close the application and run again it after 1-2 minutes there are no more records bound to the textbox, since no records at all.How can this be possible. I don't have any idea what's going on.
I have been using visual studio 2008 and sql server.Code I have been using for ::
'Update the Records Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click
I use a textfieldparser to read a csv file in my app. I set the delimiter to a, Problem is, if there is a field that contains double quotes, the textfieldparser fails. So if I have Example",test. it fails. If i remove the " it works. That's quite odd. How can I fix this.
For some reason i can't select text with the mouse in my application. Also my clients experience the same behaviour.I know it was possible to select a part of the textbox and it stayd selected. Now the selection dissappears and the cursor moves to the front.Only a doubleclick functions properly but selects a single word only.
I have a class that inherits from control with some custom properties added, and I am using a propertygrid to change the properties at run time. I don't want any of the inherited properties of the control available in the PG so to each of my class properties I amassigning a CategoryAttribute and I am adding the same categories to the PG.BrowsableAttributes collection. When I add a single category to the BrowsableAttributes collection it works fine, but when I add more than one, none of the categories show up in the PG. I am wonding if there is a simple setting in the PG, or if I have missed something setting it all up.
windows service app I am developing to audit events in the Windows Security Event Log. I am using the EventLog class to read entries from the "Security" event log. I have set the log to raise events when an entry is written so I can parse the data. Here is where my problem comes in. If I run the service on Windows 2003 I can get all the data I need from each entry, but when installed on Server 2008 the EventLogEntry ".message" property comes back with useless data like this, "The description for Event ID '4738' in Source 'Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing' cannot be found." Under Server 2003 the message property has good data. Using the Event Log Viewer in Server 2008 I can see that it is rendering the correct data, but I am having a heak of a time doing the same. The "replacementStrings" property has the corresponding data that I need, but it appears to involve some other steps to get the data localized to the event provider, but I do not know how to do that.
I also checked the registry HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesEventlogSecuritySecurity on both the 2003 servers and 2008 servers. They are identical execpt the 2003 has an entry the 2008 server does not:
