windows service app I am developing to audit events in the Windows Security Event Log. I am using the EventLog class to read entries from the "Security" event log. I have set the log to raise events when an entry is written so I can parse the data. Here is where my problem comes in. If I run the service on Windows 2003 I can get all the data I need from each entry, but when installed on Server 2008 the EventLogEntry ".message" property comes back with useless data like this, "The description for Event ID '4738' in Source 'Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing' cannot be found." Under Server 2003 the message property has good data. Using the Event Log Viewer in Server 2008 I can see that it is rendering the correct data, but I am having a heak of a time doing the same. The "replacementStrings" property has the corresponding data that I need, but it appears to involve some other steps to get the data localized to the event provider, but I do not know how to do that.
I also checked the registry HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesEventlogSecuritySecurity on both the 2003 servers and 2008 servers. They are identical execpt the 2003 has an entry the 2008 server does not:
I have a program where you have three entries, CD name, artist, price and it goes into a listbox and .txt file when closing. I have to have a message box if you enter the same CD name. I have a code to open the .txt file and compare strings but I need to change it to compare only the CD name and not all three entries. Is there a way to do my string compare against my listbox without opening the .txt file?? The program loads the listbox from the .txt file when opening. Private Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAdd.Click' adds CD information to the list box
' declare variables Dim strName As String Dim strArtist As String Dim strPrice As String
Using VB6 to create a file and then open the file just created fails when run on a Vista client with Windows 2008 Server. The same code will work when run directly on the Windows 2008 Server or when using an XP client. If a Sleep 10000 is placed after the close, the program will work. What is the problem here? The code is as follows:
Option Explicit Private Declare Function GetTempFileName Lib "kernel32" Alias "GetTempFileNameA" _ (ByVal lpszPath As String, ByVal lpPrefixString As String, ByVal wUnique As Long, _
i compile my form with the below code when i run it on vista work fine without any problem but when i try to run in on XP cant run... that happened with any XP machine.[code]when i run my exe to other Vista machines work fine... but on xp NO.
I've imported data from a text file using Streamreader and populated a listbox with this in 3 columns. I now need to a) get a total value from the 'Hours Worked' column (sum) and b) put in a calculation to populate an extra column for each entry (Gross Pay) where values are not imported but entered as a result of a calculation.
My current code is as follows: Private Sub btnRefresh_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRefresh.Click 'Program Objective: Display payroll report for National Success Coaches which could be updated unknowingly at any time. Dim name As String [Code] .....
example of how to create a custom EventViewer log, define the source, and write an entry or custom thrown exception from a windows service? I haven't been able to write entries from my service without it unexpectedly stopping because the logs filled up or getting an securityexception from the code below.
I created a simple database that has 3 tables & 2 joint tables for data entry purposes. The tables & fields are listed below. All items that appear in red are the primary keys
VB 2008 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click 'Dim Reader As New StreamReader(Application.StartupPath + "/pbucon.log") 'TextBox1.Clear() Dim Reader As New StreamReader("C:/Documents and Settings/Dorinda/Desktop/pbucon/pbucon.log") Dim Line As String = Reader.ReadLine() [Code] .....
I am trying to parse a log file and only display new entries containing the word "say". I have this set on a button click event, but I prefer a timer or something, but the textbox flashes everytime the timer ticks so I am using a button right now..
I have the following code to show event log entries in my app - but it is showing them as oldest first, where I really want to show newest first and perhaps even just show the latest 5 entries
Dim eventLog2App As New System.Diagnostics.EventLog("System") Dim eventLog2Entry As System.Diagnostics.EventLogEntry Dim eventCntr2 As Integer = 1
I have data entries in my database that have a common field. For example:
account_id type user_id
1 new 1 2 old 3 3 new 1 4 old 1
I am using a query like this(mysql): SELECT account_id, type, user_id FROM table WHERE user_id = 1
This is just all theoretical. The problem that I am having with this is it is only returning the first result in this case account_id 1. How can I get it to find all the results with the user_id 1 because in the way I am thinking that it is failing is that it is finding only the first result and then ending?
I have a program that will process the files and produce the result in output file. When i publish and install the software in xp windows it run but in windows vista it read the file everything when i look for output file. The file is not created in vista. But other program which similar with previous one can run in windows vista expect one program. This is how i write the coding to create the file.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim OpenFileDialog1 As New OpenFileDialog With OpenFileDialog1
[code]....
I dont know why it can not create a file in vista?
I was having trouble before editing the registry on a WPF application I'm working on, in order to get autostart to work, so I ended up creating a shortcut in the startup folder to automatically start the application. My problem is, that this not working on Windows 7 (and Im guessing Vista too). Here's my code. Does Environment.SpecialFolder.Startup not work on Windows 7?
Dim PathToStartupFolder As String = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Startup) If File.Exists(PathToStartupFolder & "Application.Exe.LNK") = False Then Dim ShellObject As New IWshRuntimeLibrary.WshShell
how to get working aero in Visual Basic 2008.I am making this media player and got everything I need for that. But what I really wanted is aero since Windows Vista got a nice interface and a few lucky people got it.But the tutorials I got worked great on Windows 7! However, I couldn't get aero because of a transparency key. (I swear I use a color picker to see if background color and transparency key are the same color.)I can't get it to work any piece of code I give. But the good part is that aero WILL work on any 7 or Vista without any form change, but the text is white with blue specks and that is not what I want.
EDIT:i found how to do it now! you need to use the property UseCompatibleTextRendring and put it to True. Now the problem is how do i do the same for the rest? (microsoft was to lazy to edit the controls)
I have an app developed in VB that works fine on Vista machines but fails on Win7. The offending line of code merely references a variable stored in a module. Evidentally, something is quite different on Win7. How to I find and fix this behavior?
The code is very straightforward. The error occurs in the Application Startup event.
Public Sub MyApplication_Startup(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As ApplicationServices.StartupEventArgs) _ Handles Me.Startup
my goal is to control the incoming and outgoing packets to a game server, to alert when a game round finishes the main code is this:
Private Buffer(65535) As Byte Private RawSocket As Socket Public Event PacketReceived(ByVal PacketBuffer() As Byte)
[code]....
this code works perfectly with XP (you can read both incoming and outgoing packets to the game server)... with Vista the same code displays ONLY the incoming packets....
Ok, I'm trying to tackle this topic again. I have searched for setting file associations in the registry, and I only find references to adding the association the ClassesRoot, which, in Vista 64, throws an Access Denied exception.I would like to know if it is possible to set the association somewhere other than classesroot in the registry. Or, if it must be set in HKCR, then the proper way to temporarily elevate the application to perform the registry change.
What should happen is user clicks a button in my program to add the file associations, a Vista security dialog pops up prompting the user to confirm the operation or enter administrative username and password, user confirms, application sets the file associations, then drops back down to regular security.
I have a VB.NEt app developed on XP using Visual studio 2008. My crystal reports work fine on XP but if I install the app and try to run the reports on Vista I recieve the following error message - can somebody offer a fix.
The reason I am starting a new thread is to be more concise; explain the exact issue I now face in detail. Reading my last thread may help, but what I provide here should be sufficient. I am basically trying to find the best route I should take for my program as far as UAC and Vista is concerned. My program (SysPad) is accessible through my sig).
My program requires constant write access. The purpose of my program is to provide access to a quick notepad-esque program that is directly accessible from the Notification Area. It saves every time the user types into one of the textboxes.
The issue lies in the fact that when UAC is enabled on Vista, there is no folder that is writable to without elevation to Administrator rights. The hitch is that my program is designed to be a startup utility and the issue is that a user who has UAC enabled will have to allow my program through UAC confirmation every time my program runs at startup.
Basically, I am looking for options that will resolve this and make it less "painful" on the end user who uses UAC.
Basically, the only idea I've been able to come up with that is least annoying/intrusive, is to create a Launcher.exe program that does not require elevation and have it sitting in the Notification Area with the same icon as my program at startup. When the user goes to access the program, it then launches the actual program (exiting the launcher) thus invoking the UAC verification.
Of course this would happen every time they boot their PC or restart my program; but, at least they won't be asked for UAC verification as soon as their PC boots.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I really would like to get this to work with UAC as best as possible. Otherwise, I could just make my program check if UAC is enabled, and if it is, tell them they can't use my program lol. But, I'd rather not do that.
I have detected a problem running my application under Vista 64 bits OS.
My application is developed using VB.NT 2008 and compiled as x86
I have a main form. In this form there is an option to open other form. TThis second form must return a few values to the main form. When the user click on this 2nd form, to return values, this form hangs up (2nd form hangs up)
But for what I could have known, it continues executing the rest of code that exists after to open form. I want to say that the form dialog (2nd form) is not closed (hangs up) but it the code continues being executed, because I have seen that inserts the data in the database.
The application not returns any error and any exception.
frmWaiting (form displayed when call thread) This forms contains progressbar main form Dim ThreadVentas As System.Threading.Thread
i've been looking for a solutions/alternatives to use sendkeys in Vista after reading many threads about the issue, i did see posts of alternatives, there was mentioning that SendKeys does work in Vista with .Net v3.x Framwork. (thread :"[RESOLVED] cant use the sendkeys function in vista " post # 14 ,with the following link
[Code]...
so before i download and install .Net v3.5 Framework (because the computer i am using is not mine, borrowed it from a freind)i wanted to ask , can anyone confirm that this is true,if i will install .Net v3.5 Framework on windows Vista then the SendKeys command will work as usual (as on windows XP)??p.s. here is a link explaining how to know which version of .Net framework is installed on the computer[URL]..
I am trying to use an unmanaged dll in my VBE2008 Project. My application works fine on my computers (3 Vista sp1 and 2 XP sp3 / all with .net framwork 3.5), but after the sp2 update for 2 of Vista machines, it throws often an AccessViolationException (on those machines with Vista sp2). The error message is:"Attempt to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."I have checked and found that the exception was thrown by the dll call-sub.
vb.net Public Sub AntiCorrupt() Dim DirInfo As New IO.DirectoryInfo(HardDrive) DoneGather = False Results.AddRange(IO.Directory.GetFiles(HardDrive, "*.*", IO.SearchOption.AllDirectories)) 'Admin Access

I tried running this application as administrator, even though I am on an admin account. I even disabled UAC. Nothing seems to work. I do not want to just skip the file, I want to read it.How does a antivirus program scan every file on your computer for errors? How do it read the file if Vista prevents it?
on good computers direct show works fine on vista computers that are a few years old; after playing a few (4 hours or so) videos my program crashes on this line:
[Code]....
when i say crashes it just stops responding ... i hit ctl+break and it has a green arrow on that line that means it's busy executing the constructor of the filter graph it seems to run fine on descent brand new vista machines, the memory usage is minimal on all occurrences. seems fairly constant on older machines.
I've encountered several scenarios when my application wants to delete an item, but is prevented from doing so by the operating system. So I've been wondering, is it possible to ask for elevated status after the application has launched? E.g. the application needs to delete a certain file, so it asks for confirmation and then deletes the file...
I want to set a certain column to true or false automatically based on what value another column has entered. I managed to get this working by myself using the 'SQL Pane' in VB and testing it by using execute sql but I don't know what to do now. I assumed that I could just save it and it would work from there but that's not the case, it dissapears from the SQL Pane if I close the project (even though it worked fine when I ran the project the first time), so where do I put it/what do I do with it in order to get this to work?
So I'm a bit new to the whole Vista/7 audio setup. My understanding is that a new "mixer" is created for each application. Is there some new .Net function which interfaces with these mixers? I'm actually trying to create an application which can adjust the MAIN system volume level as well as the mute function.
I was looking at the Endpointvolume API however I cant get it to work for me :(. Does anyone have a vb.net demo of how to harness this API?
