I have a program where you have three entries, CD name, artist, price and it goes into a listbox and .txt file when closing. I have to have a message box if you enter the same CD name. I have a code to open the .txt file and compare strings but I need to change it to compare only the CD name and not all three entries. Is there a way to do my string compare against my listbox without opening the .txt file?? The program loads the listbox from the .txt file when opening. I managed to get this working by myself using the 'SQL Pane' in VB and testing it by using execute sql but I don't know what to do now. I assumed that I could just save it and it would work from there but that's not the case, it dissapears from the SQL Pane if I close the project (even though it worked fine when I ran the project the first time), so where do I put it/what do I do with it in order to get this to work?
View 1 Replieswindows service app I am developing to audit events in the Windows Security Event Log. I am using the EventLog class to read entries from the "Security" event log. I have set the log to raise events when an entry is written so I can parse the data. Here is where my problem comes in. If I run the service on Windows 2003 I can get all the data I need from each entry, but when installed on Server 2008 the EventLogEntry ".message" property comes back with useless data like this, "The description for Event ID '4738' in Source 'Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing' cannot be found." Under Server 2003 the message property has good data. Using the Event Log Viewer in Server 2008 I can see that it is rendering the correct data, but I am having a heak of a time doing the same. The "replacementStrings" property has the corresponding data that I need, but it appears to involve some other steps to get the data localized to the event provider, but I do not know how to do that.
I also checked the registry HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesEventlogSecuritySecurity on both the 2003 servers and 2008 servers. They are identical execpt the 2003 has an entry the 2008 server does not:

I am trying to parse a log file and only display new entries containing the word "say". I have this set on a button click event, but I prefer a timer or something, but the textbox flashes everytime the timer ticks so I am using a button right now..
I have data entries in my database that have a common field. For example:
account_id type user_id
1 new 1
2 old 3
3 new 1
4 old 1
I am using a query like this(mysql): SELECT account_id, type, user_id FROM table WHERE user_id = 1
This is just all theoretical. The problem that I am having with this is it is only returning the first result in this case account_id 1. How can I get it to find all the results with the user_id 1 because in the way I am thinking that it is failing is that it is finding only the first result and then ending?
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

View 4 RepliesThis is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string.How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? View 11 RepliesI'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

I have never interacted with Varbiles outside of the projject but now in need of it.I am developing a Windows Service Application that is multi-threaded. There is going to be a set of Global Varibles in the application that contain basic status information such as how many threads are currently running, What clients are currently connected etc.
Now I would like to develop another application as a monitor. This one would be a Windows Forms App and its sole purpose is to display to the user this information so that is can be monitored.Is there an easy way of doing this? If not I don't think I will bother as the Monitor is not essential.
I know the title of this thread is a show stopper for a lot of us . But what I want to do is stop two services from running for a period of time then restart them. I know I can do this from the command prompt by using net stop servicename then restart with net start servicename. I need these two services stopped to do some work on the database. I do this manually right now and want to automate the process. I tried process.start with the command net stop but that did not work out. If I try the Process List I get the process running but not the services.

how to deploy a service made in VB.net. Most of the websites just say use installutil.exe this is fine while your testing your service on your local machine whit vs2010 on it. I am in the final stage now of my service like 99% is done and my last % is how to get my service installed on the server i need it on. I can't publish because this wont work with a VB.net Service Project. So all i want is a clean and easy Tutorial or Someone who can explain me how to do this without the need to install VS2010 on the server to get install-util.
View 4 RepliesWe have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?
