i am interacting with another package using webservice.now the 3rd party who has developed the package has given me a link for the webservice.url. being the nos. now i have added this web service to my package.i am developing the software on a PDA to use this webservice to get and update data to their package.i have attached 2 images to explain how i have done.in the first image i have just placed the dim abmservice statement down but actually it is before it.they r saying we have explained u everthing and u need to change the way to call the webmethod.how i go around i am not getting any further help from there side.

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.

I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') ( if I stop the UAC then it runs ok ). It seems to be a rights issue,

This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

i was trying to make my service act dynamically... i have set time for my service about for 2 min ,if suppose it was doin huge amount of work means it will exceeds that 2 min time limit then we need to check the service condition if work is pending means we need to run that instance until upto finish.

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string.How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

When you create a Windows Service, you create a list of the services you want to start. The default is this:
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service}
Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service("Option1"), New Service("Option2")}
Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?

I have never interacted with Varbiles outside of the projject but now in need of it.I am developing a Windows Service Application that is multi-threaded. There is going to be a set of Global Varibles in the application that contain basic status information such as how many threads are currently running, What clients are currently connected etc.
Now I would like to develop another application as a monitor. This one would be a Windows Forms App and its sole purpose is to display to the user this information so that is can be monitored.Is there an easy way of doing this? If not I don't think I will bother as the Monitor is not essential.

I know the title of this thread is a show stopper for a lot of us . But what I want to do is stop two services from running for a period of time then restart them. I know I can do this from the command prompt by using net stop servicename then restart with net start servicename. I need these two services stopped to do some work on the database. I do this manually right now and want to automate the process. I tried process.start with the command net stop but that did not work out. If I try the Process List I get the process running but not the services.

I am bit baffeled by this one but I am guessing its security reasons why its not working but just wanted to check. I know this isn't 100% secure, but I want to do it as a practice: I want to create a Windows Service that listens on a specific port. When data is received I want to parse it as a command. how to deploy a service made in VB.net. Most of the websites just say use installutil.exe this is fine while your testing your service on your local machine whit vs2010 on it. I am in the final stage now of my service like 99% is done and my last % is how to get my service installed on the server i need it on. I can't publish because this wont work with a VB.net Service Project. So all i want is a clean and easy Tutorial or Someone who can explain me how to do this without the need to install VS2010 on the server to get install-util.

We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

I created new windows service with timer inside it for scheduler purpose and it can run successfully but it can't run other application (ex: notepad) when the timer elapsed. I can see the process running in Task Manager but the notepad windows is not open. I used this code in timer_elapsed event.

In Visual Studio when I try to start a windows service project it tells me I cant because I have to use "NET Start" and so forth. I remember in VS 2003 that when I pressed play it started the service and stop stopped it. Is there any way that when I press play or start for that windows service project I can have this same functionality. What I currently do is install them using installutil and I put a pre-processor command with System.Diagnostics.Debug.Launch() when I have a compilation variable defined and when I use the service manager it shows me the window to select the debugger. Still this method is somewhat cumbersome.

I'm trying to open a project we did in class the other day at home.
When I try to open the project in VB, I get an error that's not terribly helpful. It basically says the project cannot be opened because its project type () is not supported by this application.
I believe that the information I need should be contained within the paren which is blank in my error message. I've looked up the error message and all the examples I've seen contain some information there.
The project was done using VS 2008 in VB in the classroom. That's exactly what I have at home. The only thing that I can think of is that something is missing from my version of VS2008 at home. The reason why I believe this is because when we needed to use SQL, it was already installed at school whereas I needed to go out and download then install it at home. So I assume my install at home is somehow incomplete. I've thought about uninstalling everything at home and re-downloading it and selecting all of the "add-ons" when I do it. This could be a total waste of time though since I don't really know what's going on.
I just thought I'd ask around before going through that.
EDIT: I downloaded VS 2008 Pro from dreamspark. Everything seems to be working.

I am developing an applikation that uses an access database for storing records. The form app is for the users to add and change data in the database and so on.
but then I should have a service to cycle thru the database to check some criterias and so on to trigger events etc. No problem with the service part, found this articel [URL]... With the form application i have no problem to connect to a database and manupulate the records etc..In the service app i have to manualy code the connection to the database. I have an application right now that requires a few different DLL's and some other command files and such. The problem I have with running it the way it is that it requires me to transfer the installer to my customers machine and then install the app i have built run it to get the report back i need.Network based to run this wouldnt work as all the customers are behind firewalls and it would take a miracle to get it opened up to make this work. So what i was hoping was to convert it to a web service/web app where i can have it run that report.

I have had some success making a windows service but I can�t seem to fix a simple issue
I can get the service to run through my code once, but I can�t get it to loop, well I can but then the service will not start correctly and just times out while the code is running.
How can I get the service to start and then loop, at the moment it just says starting service and the code is looping but the service wont start! Windows times it out after a few mins.
