VS 2008 - Program Running Slow With Background Image
Feb 4, 2010I think it's because I have a background image. For example when I maximize the program it lags. I mean big software companies have programs that have more pixel images and are much more colorful then my program is but never lag why. AVG has nice look but the program never lag. But the code runs fine so that is a good thing. How can I stop the lag with background image?

Is there anyway to have the TCP connection open and receiving/sending in the background even when the operator is doing something else?

Jun 6, 2009the user of my application is able to run a diagnostic tool which is part of my application. This diagnostic tool searches every file on the computer, logs the names, and if the my program is able to then the file will be read.
My program has other uses as well. If the user wants to do something else in my program then i want the diagnostic code to run in the background. I don't want this code to prevent users from using other features of my application since the diagnostic search does take time.
How do i do this? Threading? A background worker? If the anwser is Threading which i am pretty sure it is, how do i set up a thread? My computer has 4 GB of RAM - 2GB & 2GB so i know i am able to do this smoothly.

Jan 19, 2009when a user logs into their account on the laptop , Remote Desktop Connection automatically logs them into their account on the main computer. The problem is when it comes to logout, i need to create a vb program that will run in the background , so when the user disconnects from RDC ( which also closes RDC) it automatically logsoff the laptop. hope this makes sense.

Get The ProcessID Of A Running Program In VB 2008?
Aug 12, 2009I want my program to use the Appacctivate with a process ID because, the window title of the program I am going to work with is changing.
I tried several thing, but I just can't seem to be able to get the processID of any running applications. I googlet it, and there a several code's out there, but I get a Null Reference Error, with all of them.
which gets the ProcessID of a running program? I tried it with process.getprocessbyname ("myApplication") , dunno whether I was on a godd trail, or is there a far easyer way, even for activating windows without the processID.

Jul 20, 2010I have a class that wraps up a few methods (e.g. OpenPort, SendMessage etc.). Some of the methods accept a number of parameters and return a value (e.g. SendMessage accepts port and a string that is the message to be sent and returns true or false depending on whether the mesage was sent successfully or not). I create an instance of my class when my form loads and I call the various methods throughout the lifetime of the app.In my SendMessage method there is actually a few steps that involves a delay as I send commands to an instrument and wait for a response. I'm using the AutoResetEvent class to synchronize things. Whilst this works ok I've noted that the UI is unresponsive during the wait period.

Dec 9, 2010I'm about to pull my hair out with this program. I need the following program to keep a running total of the total amount due by a customer for books bought. The exercise required the use of a BookSale class with 3 attributes(a quantity,price,and total due) and 2 behaviors(a default constructor and method that keeps a running total). Here is the code for the class:

My problem lies in the program keeping a running total. The total due is displayed fine for each quantity and price but not the whole running total. For example,if I enter 1 as quantity and 2 as price and click the Add to Sale button,the Total Due value,which is $2.00,is displayed. However,if I change the quantity to 2 and price to 4,which comes out to $8.00,the $8.00 is not added to the existing $2.00. I feel like I'm missing something elementary and it's driving me crazy. I would work on it some more but it's already after 4 AM here and I need to get some sleep.BTW,this exercise is from a college textbook. However,this isn't an assignment that is due. I just got bored and decided to work on a chapter we didn't have time to get to.

Nov 10, 2010I am working on a project and i have come to designing my splash screen... i dont want a useless one what just shows a loading bar what does nothing, im trying to make it useful and show while the main form is loading however this is proving to be a pain in the backside.. i can make the splash screen load when the exe is executed then close when the form is ready but i want to add an animation to the form (just a moving logo) this is just done by me running an timer what changes the location at each tick.. i can get it to work well on its own but when i add frmMain.show() to the code to load the program the animation will not work... i only get this when i ask the program to load the main form..

Dec 30, 2010I have an app that runs from a network share/UNC path.i.e.\\networkserver\inventory\_application\systeminventory.exe.inside the app I call a 3rd party tool and run it from a subdirectory of the app. \\networkserver\inventory\_application\3rdparty\tool\tool.exe hide the window, and pull the output to a Text field.When I run the application local it runs great, it even calls the 3rd party tool from the UNC path and functions.But when I run the application from the UNC path and try to use the 3rd party tool it fails.I'm figuring it's cause the CMD prompt tries to kick off from the UNC path, and UNC paths are not supported as current paths. i.e. you can't do a "CD \\networkserver\inventory\". VS 2010 - Running BAT File Silently In Background

What I want it to do is to run the batch file without it opening if that makes sense. Right now this runs on a loop for 10 minutes and on every 2 second tick it opens and then closes the .bat. Which is really annoying to see a .bat open and close every two seconds. Is there anyway to get this process to run silently in the background so the user doesnt even know that it is running?

Multithreading - Access A Running Background Thread VS2008
Mar 23, 2012I created a background thread that get's data and returns it to the main thread; this works. Now I want to be able to stop the SQL request from the main thread (probably on a button click). This is my test code for creating the thread (working):

How can I access the background thread to stop the query on demand? Do I need to set a flag on the main thread telling the background thread to stop running then have the background thread poll the main thread at intervals? I was trying to look for an example but I wasn't able to find a good one.
