Stop A Running Process In Background Not Windowed?
Jul 26, 2011
i've the need to close an ffmpeg conversion started in background with the vb.net process.start.I've seen that an ffmpeg could be closed by hitting the key 'q'.How can i send the 'q' key to the running ffmpeg process?
i intercept the process with this code:
Dim pProcess() As Process = Process.GetProcesses
For Each p As Process In pProcess
If p.ProcessName = "ffmpeg" Then
I develop an appliaction which is running a process in the background. This process is "forked" from the application (I'm not using threads). The process may take a few minutes while the 'father' application is waiting to the process output, so I'd like to enhance the application with the following:
a) a "Stop" button (like in IE, FireFox) to stop the process in background
b) A status bar that displays what's going on while the process is running in BG.
how to draw a button or status bar of course... I mean how VB.NET handle with stopping or displaying while something else is running in background and how to do it.
I am working on a project and i have come to designing my splash screen... i dont want a useless one what just shows a loading bar what does nothing, im trying to make it useful and show while the main form is loading however this is proving to be a pain in the backside.. i can make the splash screen load when the exe is executed then close when the form is ready but i want to add an animation to the form (just a moving logo) this is just done by me running an timer what changes the location at each tick.. i can get it to work well on its own but when i add frmMain.show() to the code to load the program the animation will not work... i only get this when i ask the program to load the main form..
What I'm trying to do is show a form while a background process is running. Similar to a progress bar but not a progress bar. We have a form that has an animated gif (customer request) and that's it. no other controls. They want this form to show while the processing in the background is running.
I have a spreadsheet that contains details of change requests; one row per request. This information needs to be copied into a Word form for sending off to our customer who then completes the response section. To speed up this process I have written some code that utilises the mail merge feature of Word and merges the relevant info from the spreadsheet into a Word form. This runs from Excel when a button is pressed. The problem comes when I go to save the workbook and exit Excel; it stays running in the background as a process in task manager.

I'm fairly sure it has something to do with the merge code itself but my knowledge of VB is enough to grasp what is happening but not why it is happening. If I open the Word doc that has the merge fields in it, then open the spreadsheet that houses the info Excel says the workbook is already open.
I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!
My app starts an On-Screen Keyboard process like this:
Dim PID as System.Diagnostics.Process : PID = Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe") :
[CODE]...
It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..
i am trying to write a little program that checks for a process and kills is.here is the
Dim p As Process = Process.GetProcessesByName("Cheat Engine")(0) p.CloseMainWindow()[code]...
My problem is its woking ,yes if the programm ,,Cheat Engine" is running the process is getting killed. But if the program is not running my program crashes.
Trying to create a button that when clicked will check to see if a certain process image is running and if that process is running give the process focus. If the process is not running then start the application.
i have a small sample seral comms sample project and its working great .however i want it to run such that it will run continually 24 hours a day and not stop. I do not want any unauthorised persons to close the system, or stop it in any way
I am almost sure this isn't possible but it's worth an ask... We have a .NET DLL that is being called from our VB6 application. The VB6 app runs in a 32 bit process so the DLL runs in the same process (it's compiled as any cpu) Therefore when I do my ODBC Database access in the DLL is will only use a 32 bit driver, as this is what it thinks it needs (for the record the DB is Pervasive PSQL)
My problem arises when the application runs on a 64 bit machine (when only the 64 bit ODBC driver is installed) as it can't find a suitable driver to use. So is there a way to force the .NET DLL to run in a 64 bit process (compiling as x64 doesn't work because register for COM Interop is not allowed) This isn't necessarily an issue at this point in time because I can install the 32 bit driver, but at some point in the future I can imagine that 32 bit driver may not be available so I will be up the proverbial creek.
im calling a sp from vb net code that is rans for about 2 minutes and some times the user wants to cancel the query, how can i get the query id so i can sent the kill sentece?
I have the following code running in a thread to enumerate the local machines in the active directory. This takes some time to complete (about 5-10 seconds) so if the user quits the application before the enum is complete the application takes 5-10 seconds to quit. I tried thread.abort but because it is waiting for For Each SubChildEntry In SubParentEntry.Children to complete it doesn't abort until this returns.
Dim childEntry As DirectoryEntry = Nothing Dim ParentEntry As New DirectoryEntry ParentEntry.Path = "WinNT:"
I have a combo box I am filling on form load.I am using "SelectedindexChanged" to detect changes in the index to run the code when the combobox is used.Unfortunately, it runs the code on start up as well.
I have a script that looks for a product number in an excel sheet. If the number is not in the sheet i need the script to stop running and display a message box with the error details. How do I stop the script?
I have a process that i call, if it doesnt end within a certain time, i want the process to be killed and the loop to only continue after this. if i thread the timer it never tics. If i thread the process it never does as its suppose to.
Code:
Imports System.IO Imports System.Threading Public Class Form2
I would like to be able to stop a loop while executing using the ESC key.I've found a lot about using the above key from within a Form (for example, to unload it), but very little for the use of the key within a Procedure (Sub, Function) and particularly with respect of preventing a loop from carrying on execution.
I'm currently making a bot that points and clicks. It works great! The only problem I have is stopping the bot.How could I make a shortcut key that stops the bot while it's running?
Is it possible to have code running in the background and still be able to use other parts of the program (i.e. firing other events). For example I have a instant messaging chat in my program and when the user has a new message then the display flashes from green to red as seen below
[code]...
But I still want to be able to continue using the other functions in my program despite having this code running in the background (which highlights to the user that he has a new instant message by changing the display background colour)How can I overcome this?
Is it possible to run my application in the background so there is no minimised window on the bottom bar and, if possible, so an icon appears in the taskbar? If so, how would I do it?
