Sep 24, 2010I'm trying to read back a string that I wrote into a binary file, but it's giving me problems and I don't know what's going on. I open and read my file using the code below:

There is a lot more to the file reading code, but it's proprietary and this is the part that keeps crashing. It runs fine loading the first two files, but when I try to open a third file, it crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS at the input.read((char*)names, numStringBytes); line. I don't see any reason that this should crash. I'm writing the binary files in VB.NET using the below code:

VS 2008 Writing To A .ini Then Reading It?
Mar 22, 2010Ive searched for the pass hour on how to do this. Everything ive found is for vb6 and it wont work with 08 for some reason. Here is what i am doing, and the way i want to do it.I have a login form that has a checkbox remember me. Inside the if statement (If chkRemember.Checked = true) I want the code to write the username and password in a config.ini file in this format;

Callsign=dsfsdf
Password=dsfdsf
[GeneralInfo]
Can someone provide me with a code i can use for this? I also want to be able to read that data to.
VS 2008 Reading Strings From Memory
Jun 5, 2010im trying to read "calculator" from calc.exe, now i found the mem adress where the value resides but i have a few problems
1) how many bytes should i read? im not just talking about calculator string but potentially any length string, i get different results with 4/8 bytes but same from 8 - 32 bytes
2) when i read i get a long value 27866486557179971 but how to convert that into a string
EDIT: ok by staring at the return value long enough i discovered that when i convert it to hex it spells "calc" backwards, same for all other strings, i could build a working converter based on that knowledge but now what bugs me is where is "ulator" or the rest of the string, the most i can get is always 4 letters
EDIT2: oh nm that, by moving memory adress a step further i get the next letter along with 3 previous ones and still backwards but i can work with that
ok so now next step would be making a search function for which i need to find out the range of memory to scan, anybody know how to do that?

It reads the 5 bytes I added to the encrypted file, but I want the CryptoStream to start from the sixth value and then copy the original bytes into the decrypted file, but it gives me an error:
Padding is invalid and cannot be removed.That's why I'm trying to make it read from the sixth value and then continue copying normally, but I'm stuck.

Sep 22, 2011I've got my self in to a pickle here.I'm trying to do something I used to do in basic? At-least I think you can do this in Basic, you know Qbasic,What I'm trying to do is put 4-8 strings on to one line separated by a comma.Example might be:
writer.writeline (bob1, bob2, bob3, bob4) Out put might look like Test, Test2, Test3, Test4
I'm tried looking in to formatting of writeline/write, but I didn't get any where with it.
Also if this is possible- I would like to be able to read it just like :

Mar 12, 2011I'm creating a simple forms application where users can enter their details and save the information to a .ini file because I needed this for a simple game profile. I've tried to make it write "Name =" + txtname.Text but it won't work anymore. And as well as that, I don't think It will load the text back from the ini file.

Sep 20, 2010I need to read a value (and possibly adjust the value) in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall key on both 32 and 64 bit systems.I've tried accessing 'stuff' by compiling my widget as both a 32 and 64 bit app, but nothing is working. Then I came across some information indicating that this could be done from a 32 bit applicaiton using KEY_WOW64_64KEY [URL] somehow, but I can't figure it out.
1) Check the existing value of HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall{ProductGUID}DisplayVersion handling both architectures.
2) If the value <> "" And <> Our Current Version Then
3) Write the Current Version to the value mentioned in step 1.
I wouldn't think this is that difficult as I've worked with registry before, but the 64 bit stuff is throwing me for a loop.It would be nice if I could compile my app to target AnyCPU then detect where its running on 32 or 64 bit. The app could then look and update in the appropriate location.I currently am set to use .NET 2.0, but could go to 4.0 if there is something in there that makes the above tasks easier.

Dec 28, 2009seeing as '.dat' files contain only what you want them to and there is no preset encryption for them etc could I write data to one by using this simple process:
1) Change file extension to '.txt'
2) Decrypt
3) Write
4) Encrypt
5) Change file extension to '.dat'
and pretty much the same for reading it. or am I thinking to simply?
I thought of the above way as i know how to write to text files already, but is this the best way to do it? or is there a better way?
EDIT: Nevermind you just write to it like a text file and encrypt/decrypt it. request lock/delete from mod.
Ow To 'un Block' Reading Of Stderr Strings?
Mar 26, 2009Am writing code using VB.net 2005 and am attempting to launch a 3rd party console application and capture stdout and stderr strings. Am able to do this but I find that if I want to capture both stdout and stderr strings I have to wait for the process to terminate before I can retrieve any output data. If I remove the stderr read I can capture the stdout data as its being emitted. Thus it appears that the stderr read "blocks" reading of stdout.[code]Does anyone have any suggestions on how to "un block" the reading of the stderr strings?
