VS 2008 Saving A Picture To A Database?
Dec 18, 2009
I have some pictureboxes on this form set up to allow me to browse for images, then select one and show it in the box. How can I save the picture I pick so it updates a database and will show that picture when I cycle through the data in the program? It would be an SQL database and it already has columns for the picture. I don't know if I should store the path to the image or the image itself.

I've made a code which updates my database using a dataset and data binding source. I can retrieve all fields in the database including the Picture field which is set to OLE Object however I cannot update this. The Picture field in the dataset is set to type System,.Byte. Ive search these forums and found how to do it manually which I can do and works but when it comes to the BindingSource.EndEdit section it still tries to update my Picture field and fails due to a type failure.
It was System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a Byte[] to a String. ---> What can I do to correct this? Below is my code. Note the image saves under the hard coding but not in the second part of the code.
Dim connection As New OleDb.OleDbConnection(My.Settings.AirportsConnectionString)
Dim command As New OleDb.OleDbCommand("UPDATE Airports SET Picture = @Picture WHERE ID = " & TextBox10.Text, connection)
'Create an Image object.

i have this code in saving a picture.
vb.net
empno = txtEmpNo.Text
Dim myFile As System.IO.FileInfo = New System.IO.FileInfo(imagelink)
'' Create a new stream to load this photo into
Dim myStream As FileStream = New FileStream(imagelink.ToString, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)
'' Create a buffer to hold the stream of bytes
[Code]...
but when retrieving, i got an error on this part "Dim FinalImage As Bitmap = New Bitmap(myStream)". The error message goes like "System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid. at System.Drawing.Bitmap..ctor(Stream stream). maybe someone would like to help me, on where is the origin of this error.

I've written a simple application to encrypt an image (jpeg file) based on a password as a challenge to a mate of mine who reckons he's an ace hacker.I can encrypt the image no problem but when I try to save it using
[Code]...
I get "a generic error occurred in GDI+" raised. Googling reveals a few hits for this problem but seemingly mostly related to using databases rather than the file system.
Has anyone come across this? I don't want to paste all my code here in case my nemesis is watching, however basically I'm getting a reference to the PictureBox's Image property and manipulating the pixels using GetPixel and SetPixel, and then setting the picturebox's image property = my modified bitmap.
I understand that the error is generally related to the bitmap not being ready to be saved - is there anything specific I need to do to "close" the bitmap so it can be saved?The strange thing is that I'm sure this was working earlier today and now seems to have arbitrarily stopped working.

I have buttons working that cycles through all the records and everything shows up fine. I also made a simple DB program to test what I was doing without all the extra stuff my current program has and it works fine. Updates the dataset and then saves to the database and reflects the changes. When I tried adding it to this program, I get errors when I click "Save" and "Commit".The "Save" (updates DS) error is: "Additional information: Update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows."The "Commit" (commits changes to DB) error is: "Additional information: Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement."Not sure what either of these mean, the same code worked fine in the standalone program. Looking at another site, they show the exact Save error I'm getting and say it's because I don't have a command builder, but it's up there. [code]

I have a Database which is a file, and my application uses BlindingSource and a navigator to browse the database.
I can edit the data with the Blidingsource. Just one problem - I cannot save that. The save button doesn't works, maybe because it got no code.

I've got a SQL Server and I need to save files somewhere and I guess I hsave two options
1. Save the file path
2. Save the file in the database.
Issues with option 1 are for complicated reasons the file path is not the same for everyone. I'm talking about saving 200-400 per month, is there any issues with saving them into a SQL Server Database that is used by internal employees only?

This code shows me the preview of a webcam in a picture box. I want to know how to save a frame as a picture file.The code I'm currently using to save it (in the timer tick event) gives me the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error..Then I used a debug assert line and it gave me an error that basically says that there is no image in the picture box, while I can clearly see a picture in the picture box. Can anyone please help me write/edit the code to save it?

I'm working with VB Express 2008 and MS SQL Express 2008. I have an SQL database in my project which I manipulate in the project by adding to or subtracting from a particular table. The database's "Copy to Output Directory" property within the project is set to "Copy if Newer." Nevertheless, after I run the project, add to or otherwise manipulate the data, save changes to the database and then exit, the changes are not reflected in the table.

I have a form containing a listbox showing a list of image names. It's bound to the database table. When an image name is clicked it shows the image and imagename in a picturebox and textbox respectively. When no image is selected in the listbox, a new record can be inserted by browsing a new image in the picturebox by an openfiledialog, writing the imagename in the textbox and pressing the OK button. When an image is already selected, the record can be updated by pressing the same OK button. The data is saved into MSSQL Server 2005. Corresponding table fields are Keycode int autono, logoname nvarchar(50), logo image.Now the problem, when I insert a new data with an image everything goes fine but whenever I try to update an existing data with an image it throws an exception- 'A generic error occurred in GDI+.' at the following line- 'pic.Image.Save(ms, pic.Image.RawFormat)'. Surprisingly when I update an existing data without any image in the picturebox no exception is generated. I have crossed checked it and seems that the problem is just at one point- 'Updating the image from the picturebox'. My code to insert/update the data by OK button and to populate it by listbox doubleclick follows:
Code:
Private ms As MemoryStream
Private arrImage() As Byte
Private conn As SqlConnection
[code]....

save as
savefiledialog1.Title = "Save File"
savefiledialog1.FileName = "Capture"
savefiledialog1.Filter = "JPEG (*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.jpe;*.jfif)|*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.jpe;*.jfif|PNG (*.png)|*.png"

How could I do a quick save option so that it auto saves to a certain location that the user doesn't have to choose and as a .jpg?
